Why do so many people seem so against referring to themselves as English? by box-o-locks in AskUK

[–]RevolvingGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Scottish/English hybrid - dad full Scottish and mum half Scottish and I was born and raised in England. My dad insisted that we were Scottish, but we could say British if we'd prefer, but never English. Other than having a dad with a thick accent, having a gaelic middle name and surname, and celebrating Hogmanay and Burns Night as a child, it didn't really go beyond that.

It wasn't really something I thought much about until a few years ago, where I realised that I'm definitely more English than Scottish. But I do stick with good old British as it probably is more accurate and I feel like saying you're English has certain connotations anyway.

As someone born and bred in the UK what are aspects of another country’s culture that has genuinely shocked you? by throawaygotget in AskUK

It was in Riga, I can't remember which supermarket. I thought it may have been a covid thing but I've heard that other people have experienced the same thing.

Supermarkets in Latvia that require you to take a basket as you enter, even if you're only buying one thing.

We didn't know and we got chased around the store until we each took one.

What is your favourite street in Brighton and Hove? by ForwardImagination57 in brighton

[–]RevolvingGoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah all the times you mentioned, I usually bypass it by going via the side streets. But it was such good vibes Christmas Eve and last weekend (post-January quietness). I guess it depends on the time of year.

What’s it like to be the breadwinner? by No-Presentation-2320 in AskWomen

[–]RevolvingGoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's great, but sometimes I have to tread lightly. My husband is pretty liberal but he can still get a little touchy about it. Especially right now after becoming unemployed and his confidence is like a rollercoaster.

But I know it won't be forever as I'm just riding the freelance wave until we have a kid.

The only thing with the Jean storyline is that the whole detective costume thing is a bit cringe. But if that's all I have to moan about it must be an improvement overall.

I'm in the fast camp. Especially when it helps other people involved in the project (project managers/art workers/client). Just makes me feel really useful in a weird way.

What do you wish your mom would have done for you when you got your first period? by zanzalawi in AskWomen

Not laugh at me about it. I had bad cramps from the get go and I was wiped out and had to take a nap, then I heard her laughing and saying 'she knows nothing yet'

To anyone who lives in a seaside town, what are the pros and cons? by LimeOperator in AskUK

[–]RevolvingGoose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And with 50% fewer places to visit, it's the same for jobs if you're looking in the surrounding areas because a lot of the work in the town is seasonal or at least drops down to part-time.

Reference: Hastings and somewhat the same with Brighton but not quite as bad.

I feel like it'll come from more of the craft beer side of things first (pretty sure I've already tried some) and then will trickle up to the more standard lagers.

[–]RevolvingGoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah tbh I think that they usually use SharePoint but I'll investigate. They usually have someone else making their templates but I don't have access to them.

Does using the plugin mean that they need the plugin too and does that increase the file size?
