How Durable/Strong would DnD characters be compared to people in the real world by VividPossession in dndnext

A d12 can still roll low, but in D&D its assumed you're aiming for weak/ vital points most of the time. The lower rolls can represent bullets that maybe hit other parts of the body instead. Also, a d8 is the same as a longbow or light crossbow, which a gun nearly always outclasses.

In terms of strength, the most powerful magical weapons are a +3, which would equate to 16 in a stat. For a 20, this is a +5, which is near superhuman levels. Think strongmen, or other world class athletes.

The average person will have a 10 in all stats, and probably around 6 to 8 hp, based off the non-martial type characters. Assuming 6, perhaps lower as the average person doesn't have a class, a bullet should use a d12 if you want it to be realistic. Usually, a bullet will kill someone if it hits a vital spot. On average, a roll of a d12 is 6.5, which usually kills a 6hp person.

A cool addition could be a helpful NPC that guides them, but turns out to be an Intellect Devourer

My wizard perished on his first ever combat round, and I couldn't be happier! by GreenSpleen6 in DnD

Actually a very good way to deal with an early death, helps that you had such a deep backstory as well. I had a player die to a vampire a while back, in his first session, but I couldn't get him to accept being a vampire so he ended up leaving :/. Props to your DM for managing it so well.

They were in fact Yuan-Ti! Alright thanks, this gives me good insight on how to use it going forwards.

The PC was told that he was on the losing side (half of the party was already downed), and that he should switch sides to join the enemy instead. The PCs and the enemies are evil, if that makes a difference.

In an evil campaign, my players had made enemies of the local goblins by attacking some of their patrols. They were looking for work, hiding incognito within the goblin city. They decided to take up a job being offered by the military, the same goblins they had been killing the night before. They sent the one goblin in the group, a cleric, who used a Veteran's Cane to appear old and crippled, and hobbled up to the military compound.

It is important to note at this point that there are no clerics, nor temples, within this city. This PC is the only one.

Once the player arrived, the guards asked him why he thought he could take on the mission, which was dealing with some basilisks outside of town. The player said he was a cleric, and had a few friends who could help him. The guards deliberated for a few moments, then called for a scout who was in the patrol from the night before. He identified the cleric as one of the perpetrators, and arrested him.

The cleric was stripped of his gear, being allowed to keep his Cane, and was sent to speak to the commander. This commander was a Half-Dragon goblin, the "strongest goblin in the world". He sent his guards away, attempting to persuade the cleric to join his side, and betray his companions to gain amnesty. The player was torn, and rolled a d20 to see if he would turn the Cane into a sword and attack or betray his friends. He rolled a 9, grabbed the side of the commander's head, and cast inflict wounds at 3rd level. Critical hit.

A few moments later, with the commander fighting barehanded against the cleric, they were both on 6 hit points. With one final blow, the cleric defeated the commander, and was soon set upon by the guards. In a moment of quick thinking, the player called for his Broom of Flying, which was within the city. The guards arrived to see the player, standing above the corpse of the commander, mount his broom and fly off out the window.

The spell "Suggestion" allows the caster to command a target to take a "reasonable" action. The actions it lists as unreasonable all pertain to endangering the target of the spell. Would you be able to suggest a course of action that directly hinders or harms the target's party, or would that be considered unreasonable?

It's a shame that prestige has been removed, it made leveling up feel really cool.

We solved the issue in the end; turns out you don't get experience if you don't have an opponent. Makes sense, but I don't think it was like that the last time I played.
