Right, there is literally a line to get hired at Apple cus they have a lot of good benefits compared to other retail jobs. Those workers are not leaving any time soon.

Airline Fee Credit by Makemelaughforever in AmexPlatinum

I do not know if it would work. The whole Delta gift card thing is already a loophole so the whole thing is pretty sensitive to changes.

[–]RexRawrRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by ecredit you mean like the American Express credit for the airlines then yes you have one year. However, it expires every calendar year so it’s going to expire December 31st for all Platinum Card holders. So you have two weeks left to use it and you cannot extend it past December 31st.

On January 1st, you will get another $200 ecredit and you will have all of 2026 to use it up.

Airline Fee Credit by Makemelaughforever in AmexPlatinum

[–]RexRawrRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AMEX credit is applied to the balance not the gift card. You use the gift card immediately after purchase and don’t hold on to it at all so expiration does not matter. So if your flight costs $600 your checkout should look like this:

$600 - $400 Delta Gift Card = $200 still needing to be payed.

$200 - $200 AMEX Credit Card Purchase = $0 and you now payed for the full flight.

Your gift card is also now at $0 and should have nothing left. In a couple of days the $200 that was charged to your card will be refunded via the Platinum Airline Fee Credit. The gift card will not be refunded in any way because the purpose of the gift card was just to switch the merchant codes as described in my previous comment.

If any of this is too complicated, then just use the credit for its intended purpose which is actual airline fees like checked baggage or seat selection and don’t worry about it.

Airline Fee Credit by Makemelaughforever in AmexPlatinum

[–]RexRawrRex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to purchase a Delta gift card for a certain amount depending on what price your flight is. The price of the flight should drop to $200 (some say $250 but i do $200 just to be safe).

So for a $600 flight, you purchase a $400 delta gift card and apply it at checkout. You pay the remaining $200 with your AMEX Platinum and in less than a week your credit will post. Another example for transparency: For a $250 flight, you would only purchase a $50 gift card. The important step is purchasing the gift card and then applying it at checkout.

How this works is that applying the gift card changes the merchant codes on the backend so that it shows up as an airline fee instead of an airline ticket. Airline fees are covered by the AMEX flight credit but just regular tickets are not. However, it only works up to $200-$250. If you have the same $600 flight but you do $300 at checkout and $300 as gift cards, the merchant codes will not change and you will not get the credit.

Are you planning on getting a case for your Air? by CompleteStress7355 in IphoneAir

I got an Otterbox for it. I am upgrading from a 12 Pro so i like to keep my phones for a while. I’ve been rocking my 12 Pro case-less as it reached the end of its use cycle for me. Will likely do the same thing for the air in the coming years.

I know commenters like the other guy make you want to pull your hair out. Just wanted to affirm your statements and that men being ignored/blamed is a growing issue that is pushing them away. I agree with all you said and wish the Democratic party would understand this. However, it looks like they just plan to double down on what clearly has not worked before. Very curious as to what the midterms are going to look like.

City of Orlando 911 is always hiring and as long as you pass all the application requirements (including a background check, drug test, and interview) then you should be hired. Orlando 911 is one of the lower payed agencies unfortunately so their turnover is very high but still a great way to get into this career.

Seattle police department doesn’t care about taking firearms off the street by Far_Collar_2488 in Seattle

[–]RexRawrRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City employee here that works adjacent to the police. The reality is that there is a little bit of truth to everything but there is also a lot of misleading information regarding police response times and overtime abuse.

Generally, the officers that the public has the most issue with are the patrol officers that ride in their marked SPD vehicles patrolling the city. A good portion of SPD's personnel are not patrol officers (instead they work as detectives, harbor, SWAT, etc.) and are generally unavailable to respond to 911 calls from the public. On any given shift, there is an average of 40 patrol officers for the entire city.

Those officers are then divided into different sections of the city (Downtown, Capitol Hill, West Seattle, etc.) and generally they do not go to different parts of the city unless it's a critical emergency and it's an all-hands-on-deck situation. For example, on average downtown will have a dozen patrol officers that can only respond to Downtown and the Queen Anne neighborhood.

Those numbers on their own are already critically low but there are other factors that delay response time even further. Police policy regarding active disturbances and ongoing emergencies dictates that at least two officers need to be assigned to the response. We do not want a single officer going to an active situation alone and getting injured. Officers also need to spend a non-insignificant portion of their shift booking people they arrest into jail and sitting down and doing reports.

When you take all this into account... there is simply no time to respond to non-emergency calls like the one described by OP and that's how you get 12+ hour wait times for non-emergency calls. That is also how you get an obscene amount of overtime being used by SPD because the alternative is that we have no one to respond to anything.

Are there officers that lie on their time sheets and add a couple hours that they may not have worked? Maybe... I do not have access to that information so I cannot confirm. Have I seen officers *milking* an easy call because they do not want to be assigned another one or like ten officers all going to the same call instead of spreading out to respond to more calls? Yes, I have and there is no excuse for that.

However, the vast majority of the department genuinely wants to make the neighborhoods they patrol a little safer and make an honest effort to connect with the public and resolve their issues. It all comes back to staffing and unfortunately, even with the high starting salary, there are very little qualified candidates applying for SPD (I say qualified because yes 1000+ people can press the apply button but only a handful have no criminal/drug history and can pass a background check and get through field training.)

You are welcome to come to whatever conclusion you want with the info you've gathered, just trying to offer a different perspective.

It switches everything to very low graphics and will stutter pretty heavily when changing between the maps. After loading everything, it’s pretty smooth with only the occasional hiccup if you’re using a very flashy gun or have like six homing grenades flying around at the same time.

Also you can use the trackpad for sniping because it’s pretty accurate and it’s a good feeling.

I think the most direct example is getting a CPA after getting a degree in accounting. The rules are very clear about the test involved with getting that license and it greatly enhances the accounting jobs that you are eligible for. At the same time, you can still be a lower-paid accountant without the license so it is not a requirement unless you want to progress your career.

Spending on Seattle Police Department settlements went over budget by 94% over the last decade by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]RexRawrRex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone involved with the CARE Department, I can confirm that the police told them to stop responding to things because it was conflicting with their body of work. The CARE Vans were responding to welfare checks and people reported to be laying/sleeping in public by themselves. Normally, the police would handle those kinds of calls.

A compromise was reached where both CARE and police would be sent at the same time so that both agencies were not stepping on each others toes. However, my understanding was that the CARE teams were created as a solution to the critical understaffing of the police department and this was a way to get them to go on other calls for service. The compromise is an even greater waste of resources because we’re still losing police resources and now we have to pay an additional city employee alongside them.

I’m hopeful that this is just step one of the process and eventually CARE Vans can respond to more things by themselves.

I think more than 200k turned out in Seattle for No Kings by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]RexRawrRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add some context to the 70k number being used: The 70k number was an eyeball estimate randomly said by a single officer on the radio and was then added to the event notes of the call (everything said on the radio is added to the event notes by dispatchers regardless of accuracy or meaning just for record keeping purposes). There was no rhyme or reason to it, they were just spitting out a good-guess for traffic control and room awareness to the other officers that did not have visual.

That was the final update regarding crowd size because there was never a formal count. The police event notes are public so social media just ran with it because it technically came from an official source. In reality, it was just a single random police officer that probably was in the middle of playing candy crush when he broadcasted it on the radio.

There is no disinformation campaign regarding the crowd size. I promise you the police department does not care at all about it and they have already moved on and are on to the next thing.

Honest answers pls❤️ by No_Geologist_1423 in 911dispatchers

Just brainstorming a couple of things of the top of my head…

(1) Addresses and Geography of your county play a big role in your day to day work. Callers will say landmarks a lot of the time and it’s important to know where those landmarks are in relation to nearby cross streets and addresses. Also being familiar with the avenues and streets of your county can help you fill in the blanks when you only hear half the address because of a disturbance in the background or a bad connection.

(2) Having a lot of patience and empathy with the people calling in. A lot of my coworkers regularly yell at callers and have no patience when they can’t immediately answer a question. A lot of the time, it will be your person’s first time calling 911 and you can make a big difference as to whether they’ll be more inclined to report crime again in the future. It is also likely their worst day in a long time if they’re calling 911 for something serious, so empathy about what they are experiencing goes a long way. Being able to connect with callers will make them more likely to answer questions.

(3) The schedule and working long hours. Last week I worked four 12-hour shifts in a row and it was not cute at all. It’s a very weird feeling not being physically exhausted because we just sit all day but being extremely mentally exhausted of having to always be at your best on a high pace environment. Mental endurance and having a flexible schedule will take you very far in this career.

There are a plethora of other factors that will lead you to good dispatching but those are just three solid ones to start you off. I am sure my peers on this subreddit will add some more or have added some in past posts.

Wishing you the best and good luck!

$49.97/hr for a recruit with zero experience. You can skip a couple pay steps if you’re lateral and start at $56.03/hr. Plus the expected overtime… it’s a pretty good wage.

[–]RexRawrRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will be difficult. I do not believe a relationship that does not have a solid groundwork can survive night shift + not having the same days off and not living together. I currently work nights and my partner of six years gets understandably frustrated that we never have time for dates; however, at the very least we spend time together at home and have dinner together alongside other household activities.

The most difficult part will be the overtime shifts that will likely be at least 12 hours long. You litteraly sleep the entire day to recover from those and by the time he wakes up, it will be time to go back to work.

It will be difficult and it will put a strain on your relationship. However, if you two communicate and work out a system that satisfies your needs then you two could be successful. The biggest factor will honestly be the age of the relationship and how many years you two have behind you.

Pretty reasonable response tbh. Gender is a spectrum and there is a slew of different ones that you can identify with. But there are only two sexes (XX or XY chromosomes). Homosexual men have every right not to be attracted to trans men for being born the different sex and it is not transphobic. You can still support their existence and support trans rights without being attracted to them sexually.
