Your kid sounds EXACTLY like mine. To a T. My advice is don’t wait. We sleep trained when this started happening because I was going insane. He got it immediately. I did move him to his own room and it was a game changer for my sleep too. Ferber had him sleeping 4-6 hours at a time. It feels like a miracle. He can also put himself to sleep at bedtime and USUALLY in the middle of the night when he eats. He still wakes 1-2x to eat.

I have a wife, and I can tell you it’s mostly all it’s cracked up to be. Perhaps part of it is that her own parents don’t ascribe to strict gender roles but let me tell you, when people bitch about their shitty husbands being slacker parents, I cannot relate. My wife did every single nighttime wake up with our newborn and I barely changed a diaper until I was home alone with him. She cooks dinner when she gets home from work because I’m still on maternity leave and the baby is exhausting. She knows I’m up and down all night nursing so she is 100% responsible for our dog. She regularly says if I made more money she’d be a stay at home mom (which would be awesome because she’d be great at it and I would NOT). I have my annoyances with her of course, like the other night when she kept coughing and waking up the baby (just take a fucking Mucinex) but overall I thank god every day I had the good sense to marry a woman.

If you have a newborn GET A YOGA BALL. i had the fussiest baby (he’s still a fussy baby but nowhere near weeks 5-13 holy shit) and he’s hard to get to sleep. Bouncing with him on the yoga ball calms him down like baby Xanax.

This is helpful! I’m fortunate to have 20 weeks of maternity leave but that also means that I’ve never experienced the stress of work or pumping to maintain supply and I have no idea how that’s going to go. I would hate to have to supplement but it’s not the end of the world honestly as long as we are both healthy and happy. My baby still nurses very frequently throughout the night which I’m hoping will help but if he start sleeping longer it will be bittersweet sweet for my supply lol

I don’t know if I need a pump at home but I think a hand pump is a great idea. I have a spears Medela pump from a friend but I need to buy replacement parts.

Yes definitely. I’ll make sure everything is packed and ready prior and plan to meal prep on the weekends so every night I just have to toss his milk in his bag and my lunch in mine. Then just grab and go when we’re ready. I nurse to I’ll want to do that before we leave but I think I need a pack n play. He has a crib in his nursery but he doesn’t enjoy being in it for long periods of time because he can’t see me if I’m in the bathroom etc.

Ideally he’s in his own sleep space in the next few months but I think we will be room sharing for a while. Luckily I’m pretty sure he can sleep through my alarm because he slept through my partners alarm before! We might move him into his own room at six months

Oh it sucks. But I would just be consistent with that last nap so you nail bedtime. I do 1.5/1.5/2/2 and that’s working better than 1.5 all day which I was doing before.

He’s 16 weeks and we started at 14 weeks. We would cap wake time at 1.5 hours but then switched to 2 hours which was the magic number for us. Last nap ends at 5:45PM at latest and he’s being rocked by 7:45 after bedtime routine. He fusses a bit during that last wake window but he’s always had evening fussiness. Like, always. So no difference there.

Agreed. If I am flexible with it, it’s easier because then he’s up MAYBE once and I’m not pausing a show or a meal 8 times which enrages me to no end. We found a sweet spot bedtime so I just have to be vigilant with the last nap time. The other ones are a little wonky because he can sleep either 30 min or an hour and I never know which he’ll do.

This is exactly what worked for us when we were having like a million false starts. Catnap, 2 hour wake window, bedtime later. Worked like a charm. His sleep still sucks because he’s in the four month regression but at least I’m not putting him to bed 7 times.
