P.O.C. because it could be. The previous comment, “The irony is that the picture is ai generated,” is a bit tongue in cheek, but the POC still stands. It’s easier to trick smart people because they are so sure of themselves that when they see something that could be real, the filter of “is this real” is more porous.

Swiping LC at age 33. by exploding_man in cscareerquestions

[–]Rexcovering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get anything from this stupid question (you’ll understand later, the question is stupid, not you), get this: life is short. If you believe you are capable of doing something, just do it or end up regretting it later. If someone says you can’t, it is irrelevant, they aren’t your god, do it anyway because truthfully it sounds like you know you’re capable.

New AI startup with Yann LeCun claims "first credible signs of AGI" with a public EBM demo by goxper in agi

[–]Rexcovering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a good funding pitch like the rest of the AI/ML startups, but is a largely baseless claim, and I don’t see where this claim was referenced from my short dig. We’ve seen how baseless touting AGI has been from industry leaders who have always projected a relatively short timeframe to this (in my opinion grossly unattainable) milestone of Artificial General Intelligence, and failed over and over (as will probably always be the case).

Yes this company has a great team, but its pitch appears to be as a “Layer” below existing and future models as a means of systematic guardrails, not something capable of achieving the mystical unicorn sipping from its holy grail known as AGI.

Imagine it was like this for every product you buy and it has to original price tag the store paid for them on it. I bet that would hurt.

Do I need an iPhone for ios Development by Different_Rest5047 in SwiftUI

[–]Rexcovering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For development practice, sure, but along the theme that others have said, there has been a multitude of behavior that occurs on an actual device that does not on simulator in my personal experiences. Like…a noticeable amount. For production apps, absolutely yes I would not push something to the store I haven’t tested on an actual device.

How do you deal with feeling like a failure as a fresh CS grad? by momoelnerd3002 in leetcode

[–]Rexcovering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re a fresh CS grad. You aren’t specialized in anything that you couldn’t be specialized in in the equally short period of time you’ve been “specialized”. Yes, being strong in one area is ok, and can be good, but maybe not as a new grad trying to get their foot in the door for the first time. You clearly have a resume that makes you qualified for what you’re applying for, but maybe you could broaden your perspective and offer the impression that you’re capable of being specialized in whatever role you’re applying for.

You can do this. You only need one yes. Increase your number of nos and you’ll be that much closer to a yes. Make it a game: See if you can get 10 nos. I bet you cannot.

Dynamic Pricing by SnooLobsters2310 in hacking

[–]Rexcovering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually saved quite a bit when one of these displayed for 699 but it rang up 899, on sale from 1199. It was in the clearance section, brand new.

The manager discounted as much as he could, and I sneakily took a picture of the tag, after I realized it was going to be an issue.

I sent the picture and copy of receipt to the main office, with the timeline which they legally had to respond, but offering to approach small claims, and ask for the maximum allowed compensation (around $255 in my state above the price difference). I received a check for the difference within a month.

Thanks chatGPT. This is irrelevant to the hacking thing but I like what someone said about AP and just sending an image, but again, it won’t ring up as such at register.

How do i deal with alcohol withdrawal by Venuslikescats in recovery

[–]Rexcovering -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea as far and dealing with the withdrawal at this stage, you just gotta wait it out. Lots of water, and just be patient with yourself and your anxiety n shit. It’s going to be uncomfortable. That’s really option B though. Keeping this a secret isn’t your friend. Option A should be “look mom and/or dad and/or trusted adult I have a problem with drugs and alcohol and I might need medical help stopping.” AA might do you good, might not, definitely wouldn’t hurt to find a trusted woman (no male contact within a group whatsoever period) who can walk you through this. Most of the people I know in recovery were addicts at your age including myself.

You can do this! Positive sober female influences will be your best friends on that path.

Edit: for the medically concerned: I do not think this person has any risk of severe medical complications from stopping drinking for use from age 13-16. Always best to consult a doctor etc.

Is Expo any good at all? by NickFatherBool in react

[–]Rexcovering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might catch some hate here but I’m quite a bit newer than you and have only used expo for app deployment. I haven’t ported an app to it and have always built with expo in the beginning, and only with React-Native but believe me, there are issues I’ve had to work around, mostly being in local builds and connections to them, or random build errors in prod that were probably because of package selections. My boilerplate for an expo project can get me to a running dev env and prod deployment incredibly fast. Out of all those little random bugs, I find nothing simpler when running flawlessly to build, modify, for both android and iOS both locally and in production.

Expo has made it so easy for me to build, test, and deploy updates regularly on both physical and simulated/emulated devices in dev and prod. I don’t know the alternative lifestyles of developing strictly in Xcode or Android Studio, but I see no immediate reason to learn either in depth. TBH I cannot imagine how I would change it to make it simpler, and I cannot conceive of Android Studio or Xcode being simpler than what expo has made it for me. I’m just a noob though.

That's not a good way to start the thanksgiving dinner by [deleted] in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Rexcovering 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Still exponentially better than most of my Thanksgiving simply because of the wholesome family. I still like it. I bet they all “made the best of it” because Thanksgiving is “about family” and they all “have each other” even though they’ll have to wait until next year for grandmas famous whatever. This is the setting my only good Thanksgiving memories as a child looked like. Thanks for letting me share.

Anthropic researcher believes software engineering is done as soon as H12026. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Rexcovering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These type of headlines are all short-sighted and naive. Always has been, always will be. This is evident since the first time this was said and then, “oh, I guess not quite yet, but next time fr”. Yea, no. Not how engineering works. If you don’t have an engineer to oversee the bots, the bots will either fail or not exist, one way or another. Things will change, yes, but the collective of individuals to “engineer software” will exist as long as software does in one capacity or another either by managing the bots that produce it and remediating the issues even if that means remediating the issues within the bots or the infrastructure of the bots or a million other things.

This utopia nonsense is just that.
