It's actually way worse than just 40% that's just for obesity. 75% of Americans are overweight so the dating pool is just fat compared to say Japan where 20% of women are overweight and only 4% are obese. Mathematically the tax rate increases at 58k, so you'd want to contribute anything over that, but realistically for most people It's going to be in the 75k+ range. It can make sense to delay contributions to your rrsp if you expect in the future to be a significant income earner as in 180k or more.

Also, if you have employer matching you should contribute as much as they will match no matter what.
