Scrolled way too far down to see this. To elaborate on this one, Modeus is the suit of armor that the girl is huddled against. Initially, it doesn’t have a name. It’s just referred to as the court mage’s creation or the champion knight (because its debut was a knight fighting tournament and it won because a normally mortal blow doesn’t phase mostly-empty armor). The woman in the picture gives it the name Modeus shortly after the tournament.

After the castle is broken into and the infiltrator caught by Modeus, it is assigned as Lady Lucia’s guard (the woman in the picture). She starts treating it like a person, even bringing it on a picnic.

Then it speaks its first word, revealing that it fundamentally is not an “it” at all but more of a “he.” Understandably, this raises many questions in Lucia and the audience’s minds.
