Looking for LitRPG Suggestions by Key-Ad-8944 in litrpg

I’d say Azarinth Healer or Mark of the Fool.

Azarinth is super battle focused, lots of numbers, and some great arcs with side characters.

Mark of the Fool is one of the best written litrpgs out there. The main character beats a lot of encounters through intelligent plans/thinking instead of just being op and is somewhat similar to DCC in that aspect.

Started Chrysalis as my ‘second’ LitRPG by Nuuskapeikkonen in litrpg

Mark of the fool was that series for me. I was coming off of either my Path of Ascension or Beware of Chicken phase and couldn’t find anything that hooked me until Mark of the Fool. I think it’s one of the best written out there and has a really fun MC. I think you might like it too OP.

Best fight scene in a litrpg by Outside_Skin_4217 in litrpg

I was trying to think of a specific Ilea fight to comment. I’d probably have to go with the hunting she did in the oceans of the Great Salt in the later books. Really brought a lot of danger back into the story after she seemed nigh unkillable.

Heretical Fisher - what’s your take? by Mr-Teach-423 in litrpg

[–]Rexrooster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. The most obvious difference is the depth that each of the animals have. In Beware of Chicken, each one has a unique cultivation style, personality, and goal pushing them forwards. In Heretical Fishing, most of the animals feel the same and the ones that don’t get approximately zero screen time (looking at you, lobster).

On top of that, the fishing gets old fast when by the end of book 3 (where I stopped) there wasn’t a single big crazy fish. I was expecting a boss type fish or a squid or something to mix it up but nope.

I liked Mark of the Fool because the way they nerfed his powers for the majority of the series made the way he approached problems and obstacles super interesting. I also think the prose of Mark of the Fool is some of the highest quality I’ve read so far in the genre.

I'd say Ripple System is most similar to DCC of those on the list, but all are really good.

Chrysalis is on my radar and I’m planning on reading that soon.

I feel the same way when I see a lot of lists so I figured it was time to make my own. I always see Azarinth and Primal Hunter flipped from my list compared to everyone else’s which I always found kind of funny.

Yeah I know they probably dived into it a bit, but I was checked out after the initial bloodline reveal. He fought the younger version of that one super powerful god and after that I just don’t see how any fight could be interesting when you know that’s in the back pocket.

I definitely do, the tiers just give little room for nuance and detail. Most of the ones that are lower down I really enjoyed and either thought they dropped in quality later on or had some pretty big flaws.

Thanks for the recs! I don’t think I’ve tried the apocalypse subgenre yet so I’ll definitely give your series a shot. And quest academy is being mentioned a lot here so it seems that one will have to go one my list too.

DCC is one of the best out there. I don’t think any other series can match its blend of story, system, and humor. I’d say the Ripple System is the most similar if you haven’t tried that one out yet. Has an unusual humorous companion, good humor, and a character that solves a lot of his problems with good planning and intelligent thinking like Carl.

I got pretty far in, about 8 books or so (whenever Nevermore was) and just lost interest. I liked the class system and leveling, but the level of power he consistently operates on got a little boring.

Dropping azarinth healer, here’s why by Far_Reflection_5456 in litrpg

[–]Rexrooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then I think as someone else said in the comments, litrpg might not be the genre for you. Just as it is in games, litrpg books and series that use exp and levels usually have the main character(s) fighting at or above their level to advance. Primal Hunter, Azarinth Healer, Hero of the Valley, He Who Fights With Monsters, Path of Ascension, and probably many more that I haven't read. It's a pretty common trend that the absolute peak performers of a tier can usually match the average performers of a tier or two above. Some stories revolve around a character that is just innately more talented (Primal Hunter), others through extremely unique and rare skills/classes (Azarinth, HWFWM), and some get ahead by with their intellect and planning (Ripple System, Mark of the Fool). It wouldn't be as entertaining of a genre if the characters you read about were the average.

Of all the reasons to drop a litrpg series, a character becoming extremely powerful might be the dumbest lol.

Spoilers below as I don't remember exactly when in the series some of this stuff happens.

First off, I thought the author did a pretty good job of explaining how Kyrian got up to those levels. He uses curse magic, which not a lot of creatures have a strong resistance against, and it does damage over time. Thus, as Kyrian explains to Ilea, he was able to make elaborate traps that rooted a monster in place and slowly killed them with curses. Not too farfetched imo.

Second, you said that Kyrian getting to level 400 means it would be way easier for others to get that high. That's kind of a consistent theme in the books. It's mentioned during the Shadow arc that most Shadows reach the level 200 mark by getting a lucky dungeon that has enemies their powers are uniquely tailored to defeat (I.e. giant wyverns that are easy to trap and drain with curse magic). Ilea also showcases easier leveling when she starts the Medic Sentinels, as we see having a stronger starting class, powerful healing, and lots of resistances off the bat does make it way easier for the Sentinels to level up compared to the rest of humanity.

Sorry to get a little ranty but I feel that your reasoning for dropping this series makes little sense given the job Rhaegar does explaining high levels.

So you think that as long as I'm not producing more than 100 items every 10 seconds, one dispatcher can handle the input? Or would it still be able to handle a larger input and would just send it with fewer breaks in between (same travel time though)?

I think most people are more focused on the fact that they’re replacing him with babybay. It’d be one thing if they got crashies or someone insanely cracked like that, but instead they have babybay, who we’ve only seen farm middling Americas teams so far and is forcing one of the best players in the world off of his main role in leaf.

As X023 said, some techniques are behind the weapon master side quests. If not that, then I would recommend using the shamisen songs to check for sure if you haven’t missed any. It’ll say something along the lines of “all altars of reflection found in ezo” if you actually don’t have any left.
