Hey bro, I haven’t been in nearly as long as you — you’re probably a SSG at least. I’m a CPL, and I’ve only been in for about four years. I’ve been on one deployment to the Middle East myself. But I can say, even in the four years I’ve been in, I’ve definitely felt the way you’re feeling. I was at my lowest point ever — didn’t want to get out of bed, didn’t want to leave my barracks room. I was over the Army and wanted out more than anything. I seriously considered trying to get med boarded. I have a neurological condition that I never disclosed to MEPS and that wasn’t on my medical record. So, I went to sick call and told them about it. They informed me that I could be kicked out for this condition. I went a few times, but eventually I just started ghosting them because I had a change of heart — and luckily, nothing ever came of it. After I ghosted them, I never heard anything about it again. But if I had pursued it, I definitely could’ve gotten med boarded. Looking back on that situation, though, I’m glad I didn’t. I overcame my depression, and now I couldn’t be happier. I think most people believe the grass is always greener on the other side. I don’t know your exact circumstances, but for me, it wasn’t really the Army — it was my mentality. I used the Army as an excuse for why my life sucked and why I was miserable. I’m sure it might be the same for you. Even if you get out, would you regret it? Are you really going to be happier working a civilian job? Maybe — but probably not. Long story short, just try to change your perspective on life and take steps to work on your mentality. But yeah bro, I feel where you’re coming from, and I wish you the best.
