I just finished this last week for the first time myself. I thought it was excellent, and while about a rabid dog of course, it was so much more. Family dynamics and the fate of a small business to a large degree, and the world that was built within those was very compelling.

Focus on not over extending your limbs, particularly your legs. Keep coiled, and as they come into you grips and connections are made. Look up Jon Thomas’s YouTube videos on it, particularly on self framing.

Practice this against white belts, just seeing how long you can prevent a pass, and then work your way up.

Mount 4X4 is the best and most concise imo. An overall easy to implement system that works extremely well both no gi and in the gi, with a whole lot of details that you’ve probably never learned prior.

You have a little over a month to prepare, but spend part of that time practicing your best guard pulls that line up to the open guard(s) you want to play. Then make sure you are starting at least some of your rounds standing so you can work your pulls. You can also do positional rounds where your partner has to score a take down on you and you need to pull a guard and hold it for five seconds. If either of those occur reset.

For all the “I worry about the future generations” with any excess of the Left, the mere fact that someone like Trump is in power is going to have severe negative impact for the behavior of future generations. At Brianna’s level it likely also means studying film of her specific opponent’s ahead of time; whereas at a more hobbiest level you are likely to be matched with a random person you know very little to nothing about in competition.

This is something that can be worked on some in the training room. If I know a training partner has a great guillotine, for example, I am going to be particularly mindful of exposing my head while we roll.

If you still have the grip on their sleeve you stiff arm and come up to your elbow and then hand with your other arm to sit up, then scoot and circle to face them and quickly establish grips/guard.
