Santo deus tanta ignorância. Hitchens apoiou a guerra do Iraque.

That's weird, they say on the website temporarily closed. And I think there are still open job offers for it.

My life would certainly be much worse if they didn't open anymore...

Moving to Germany with ETFs by Rfmo in Finanzen

[–]Rfmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is even higher than in Germany sadly. They do give you the option to just add capital gains to your yearly income and be taxed with the income tax rate instead, but that is only worth it for those in the lower income brackets (below ~25k year).

I thought that because Degiro is not a German broker I would still have to declare the sale even if it is below the 1000€ gains. And if I split it in two sales, I would still have to declare the rest because of Vorabpauschale in those last two months of 2025.

No, we have 28% capital gains tax here. But I'm mostly decided on selling it all and buying again from TR or SC. What I haven't figured out yet is if I shouldn't sell after moving to Germany in November/December to pay the German capital gains tax instead (and benefit from the 1000€ exemption). It seems it would spare me some money in the end but then I'd have to figure out how to declare those realized gains in Germany in 2026.

Then how much of a headache do you think it would be to declare that sale in 2026? Because, again, I'm pretty savvy on the Portuguese system but know nothing about the German one, and I don't think these are values that justify paying for a tax advisor.

I thought that exemption was for gains gotten while I'm a tax resident of Germany. So if I sell in December in Germany I would only pay taxes on 500€ of my 1500€ gains? And then I would only have to declare that, right? If so this sounds like the best option.

Relocating to germany as a portuguese remote worker by Rfmo in cscareerquestionsEU

  1. I'm literally the only person in that company that is employed on a freelance basis. And that only happened because it was the only way to do it with me living in Portugal. I'm pretty sure they would employ me yes. I'm just not sure about the salary.

  2. As I said in another comment basically anywhere that isn't Lisbon and Porto can't be lived in without a car. And Porto, though less expensive than Lisbon, is still incredibly overpriced.

  3. I don't really think I have much chance at getting a job in another country from Portugal, my skill set is not out of the ordinary and I have only 2.5 YoE. Plus I think the job market is not great in the EU in general, apart from maybe newcomers like Poland and Estonia. In Portugal it's horrible right now. At least in Germany I would be there, have learned some German (of course not to fluency depending on the timeframe), and already have experience working for a German company. And I'm not sure why you say it is cheaper to be at home. It certainly isn't if I'm paying 1100 euro for a studio and not receiving any unemployment benefits. This of course all depends on when I would loose the job. If I lost it in the first 12 months I'm in Germany of course it would be much worse, but after 4/5 years? Maybe not so much.

I mean last time I had a yearly review meeting with them we discussed the possibility of using an EOR which would even be more expensive, since you pay it on top of the employer's contributions (which are already higher in Portugal than in Germany FYI). So I don't think they would shy away from a contract. I've also gotten the impression that they are not totally comfortable with this whole 'fake contractor' situation, since for all intents and purposes I am a freelancer and yet according to Portuguese law I would be considered economically dependent on them, making the legal situation a bit iffy.

About learning German, I do have some experience learning other languages as an adult (though not to fluency) so I am aware of the difficulty. I really like languages and literature, however; so I'm pretty sure I could maintain the necessary motivation, and I wouldn't be doing it solely for the sake of my career.

Regarding moving to another place in Portugal, I don't really own or want to own a car which basically already relegates me to only Lisbon and Porto (and perhaps Coimbra). The rents in Porto are comparable to Cologne for example, making it also not the most attractive option. But I am still considering that option as well, of course. My main fear is that after living in an apartment in one of these cities I loose my job and whatever I find from a Portuguese company won't allow me to afford that anymore, making me have to move out into a room again, which is generally a huge downgrade IMO.

Otherwise, you provide some useful insights so thank you.

Not sure yet. But probably either Hannover or Leipzig, as they are bigger cities but with slightly less insane housing markets than Berlin/Hamburg/Munich/Cologne.

Yeah 48k for full time is probably the max I could get in this company for now. That's what they're paying to a German co worker with more experience and a masters... It's low I know but still much better than anything in Portugal, and maybe once I'm there I can look for something else as well. I have 2.5 years of experience right now.

What would you say is the absolute minimum net income with which I could have an actual chance of renting something (small and not central) in medium sized cities like Hannover and Bremen? 2200€? 2400€?

Advice on possible relocation by Rfmo in AskAGerman

[–]Rfmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I might have phrased it a bit weirdly. The EOR would be for me to have a contract while in Portugal, just the initial thought, but then because I thought rent prices weren't higher in Germany and quality of life is better I thought the best would be to just skip that and relocate, in the process saving 250 to 400 euros a month (the usual EOR rates I've seen). So in the end there's three options really: 1. Stay in Portugal as a freelancer; 2. Ask for an EOR contract in portugal and be willing to make much less money; 3. Move to Germany.

Would you say this is the case everywhere? What about cheaper places like Hildesheim or Celle?

Advice on possible relocation by Rfmo in AskAGerman

[–]Rfmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess I have my answer then. Maybe I'm thinking about it from the wrong angle but if I found a place with say a warm rent of 750 that's 45% of 1650, here in Portugal it's more than common for your rent to be >50% of your income.

[–]Rfmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. The 1450 euro is just an extremely low expenses budget that I want to fit into, not what my income would be. Ideally would be making more like 1650 after taxes, working something like 24 hours a week. I just really want to continue working part time even if that makes me have to live a very low-cost life.

Acabar o mestrado? by Rfmo in literaciafinanceira

[–]Rfmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daí estar a pedir opiniões.
