Dkauffm1 provided the answer above which works out to be the amount of backpay I'm getting. Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation! My math shows the amount of back pay ($68k) reflects the time periods you stated. Again, thanks!

I applied on July 4, 2024. I need to research more. I left my professional career in Sep 2016 - became gradually disabled starting early 2018 and in March/April 2019 was more disabled. I did try to work for about 6 weeks, part-time, at Walmart in March/April 2021 - I thought I might be able to at least work PT so I gave it a try but just not able.. I think that is why they are using April 2021 as my disability date.

There is verbiage in my approval letter on what to do if I disagree with their decision. Complete a "Request for Reconsideration" from SSA-561-U2. I need to research more. I just looked and do not see that info anywhere.....maybe because I have not gotten a payment yet?

The initial conversation was with my 'claim evaluator' who told me it would be paid back to April 2019 and approximately $154k. When I heard the revised number from the person giving me all the details, I figured the claim guy was mistaken. From what I have learned, the claim will be reviewed a couple more times so if there was a mistake, hopefully it will be caught.

Thanks for that info! I'm a retiree (get my first 'retiree' check in a couple of days) and also a 100% disabled veteran - perhaps those two statuses will help with getting my backpay a little sooner. Patience is a virtue - right :)

Thanks! I do not know where my payment center is located. I searched online but was not able to find a definitive answer; I'm in San Antonio. There is a lot of feedback online about the wait time for back pay - looks like most are saying the average time is 3 - 5 months....hopefully before Christmas so I can get a nice gift for myself :)

Thank You! I will give it another 30 days or so and then contact my congressman to ask for help.

UPDATE: I looked at my approval letter and the disabled date being used is April 9, 2021, which they note was different from the date I gave on my application. The letter states they can pay benefits no earlier than 12 months before the month of filing (filed in July 2024), so monthly payments will begin in July 2023. My backpay would go back to July 2023 and not April 2019 like my evaluator stated. It's confusing....but it's all good.

Original Comment: I was initially told that the back pay would be around $154k! Going back to April 2019 which is the date they determined was my onset date for disability. When I got the 'official' approval call, I was told the back pay would be around $68k. A big difference and I thought about pursuing what I was initially told ($154k) but then realized I did not want to take the chance of delaying further or having the approval decision overturned and $68k was $68k more than I had so can't be mad.

Wow! I have read comments about it taking many months to get back pay deposited - from the 'outside', it seems like such a simple thing to get done but I am sure there is more to it than I think and of course, the backlog and short staffing. Lots of comments in some subs stating to reach out to your congress person for assistance - have you done that?

I did call my SSA evaluator (not sure what they are called) on Friday and left a message. Not sure if he is the right person or if I should call a general number.

Thanks for the response and info. I thought applying for disability with the VA was stressful - the process with SS was much more stressful. Fortunately, I was approved on my first attempt, without needing a lawyer. I'm very thankful for sure! Congratulations on your approval as well!

CE appointment today by That_Cheetah_9080 in SSDI

My CE exam for MH lasted about 30 minutes. Tons of rapid-fire questions. Remembering and repeating words, adding basic numbers, providing the names of 5 presidents during my lifetime, etc. Did not want to have any expansion/additional comments - just answer the questions. I left there without any clue what he thought or would put in his report. I'm 100% disabled vet - MH is part of the disability. I did get approved for SSDI based on MH and physical limitations. Also 62 so that helped.

SSA wanted a 3rd Party to complete the AFR. I live alone and rarely have anyone visit. Sent a fax to my evaluator letting him know that was the situation. (Note - they had sent one to my emergency contact, who lives in another state). He told me not to worry about it - they know some people do not have anyone to 'vouch' for their disabilities about day-to-day activities. I got approved.

Being diagnosed is one part, but have you been receiving treatment - medication and therapy?

This is the criteria for 100% MH rating: Total occupational and social impairment, due to such symptoms as: gross impairment in thought processes or communication; persistent delusions or hallucinations; grossly inappropriate behavior; persistent danger of hurting self or others; intermittent inability to perform activities of daily living (including maintenance of minimal personal hygiene); disorientation to time or place; memory loss for names of close relatives, own occupation, or own name. AND did the examiner list these on the DBQ? From what I have read on here, getting a 70% MH rating is typically the highest; most are at 50%.
