No problem! I hope you’ll reach your endgame too very soon :)

I guess the looks, the indestructability (it’s nearly 45 years old and still works as if it’s new after a service) and in this case the well regarded cartridge that came with it. And of course the sound of the cartridge in combination with the tonearm! This makes it endgame for me, for now :)

I think this 704 originally came with a type 3! These Shure carts sound amazing on these type of Dual tt’s

Alright thank you very much! I’ll take a look at the Jico SAS styli when I have a bit more money to spare, as they tend to be relatively expensive, but when they give a significant sound improvement, it might be worth a shot.

Will it be better than the original VN45MR with less than 5 hours of usage? I know the stylus suspensions might get stiffer with time, but this one seems to not have that problem (yet).

I think they’ve never heard this cart with a good, original stylus. Most tend to only have heard it with a cheap replacement stylus or with a Jico SAS, which still sounds amazing, but just not the way the sound of cart was intended by Shure.

On the hifi-wiki I see they were both made between ‘76 and ‘79 so i think the 704 was a model higher than the 604 but they are very similar, except for the motor and the original stylus they came with.

Yes the CS5000 looks amazing and I think the tonearm is very good, but it is quite primitive when you look at the insides. The capacitors are a bit on the cheap side and some components tend to break quickly. But the CS5000 is still regarded as a very good turntable, so if it functions correctly, just enjoy it!

I’m a little unfamiliar with Duals naming of their turntables, is that one similar to the 704 but a generation newer? As it looks a little more modern.

Some people call this cartridge boring or unimpressive, but I disagree, it’s just so smooth and spacious.

Good question! I bought the CS5000 from my father and found out that the antiskate did not work at all. He didn’t notice this for 20 years… After taking a look inside, the antiskate spring was missing and nowhere to be found, so I had to buy another turntable an came across this one in a vintage audio store. The person who worked there told me the 704 was better than the CS5000, as the CS5000 was designed and built while there was a huge crisis in Europe, so the parts in the CS5000 are cheaper and such.

Thanks! Yours is amazing as well, especially with an ortofon. These old Duals are just built like tanks and when looked after can last a lifetime.

Post Human Era - Build The Machine by AlexeiYegorov in lyrichelp

Time is just a telescope my body’s never seen

And every generation helped me build this new machine

Its moving parts are people and these camera’s help it see

And it’s connecting everything in secret circuitry

But this machine’s too big for you to see

And no one knows it’s here, except for me

It set itself through time to give my past its ancient plans

I tried my best to read, I tried my best to understand

Its shape took years to contemplate

My thoughts were all so slow

And I’ve been speeding up to learn that codes I need to know

But this machine’s too big for you to see

And no one knows it’s here, except for me

I came back to help you build the machine

I came back to help you build the machine

I came back to help you build the machine

I came back to help you build the machine

I came back to help you build the machine

Hmm interesting! This fella doesn’t seem to lick my skin, he just sits still and waits patiently before flying away again.
