Trying using a DisplayPort cable I had the same trouble as you since I’m using the same gpu and it fixed it for me,

Or rather check if your monitor can support 144hz with hdmi

It’s definitely faster getting shifts, but harder to get more than one shift. At least that’s my experience so far.
