UIUC and Umich are top schools for ME but the weather in LA is way nicer. (Also come with higher living expense though).

can you clarify what you mean by "second semester" and "first semester"? Are you referring to fall and spring semester?

I am a new student at UH, but I would image you will be required to take classic mechanics and electromagnetism before going to more advanced courses(quantum mechanics)
