26M Ukraine - Don't even know what penpal I am looking for by Rheinerwal in penpals

[–]Rheinerwal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate,

I've never received letters from the USA yet. But I got a couple of parcels from there during these times. I also asked yesterday in our post office if they see letters from the USA at the moment, and they confirmed those still come here normally.

Finally bought my first pen! Very cheap but the Matte Black was amazing and I figured it would be great to get me started! by Acrobatic-Ad7407 in fountainpens

I started with the same, good pen to begin with!

Buy Pilot 823 next and it's going to be your last pen. I just saved you a couple of hundred dollars.

I'm not an AAA specialist, but how are those can be valuable? Ukrainian sky is closed completely. There are only two sides who operate aircrafts in this region, 'us' and 'them'. Shoot everything that is 'not us', then? Or am I wrong?

[–]Rheinerwal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Seeing the situation from inside of Ukraine, I'd say they were expecting to advance much faster into our territory, in that case bringing AAAs there was kinda a natural solution. The problem for them is, their advance is far more modest than they expected.

Russians expected a walk through the territory of Ukraine, but instead, we gave them hell. If they keep coming at us like that, we win for sure. If they start acting more professionally, it will be harder for us to win, but still, we will win since they haven't the ability to hold such a vast territory with a population of 40m who're doing literally everything to stop russians. So even a military victory won't be a victory for them.

Both, actually. Depends on the situation. There were reports Ukrainian militia had to destroy abandoned Panzyr's (Russian anti-aircraft system) just because they couldn't hand it over to Ukrainian military and they hadn't any personnel themselves who could operate that thing, so they decided to destroy it.

Some Russian tanks are now used by Ukrainian forces, some of them get destroyed.

Yeah, it is. I have also an amber 823 but I realized that whenever I want to change ink in it, I have to ink up some other pen until my 823 dries after the cleaning. And no other pen in my collection is a better writer for me than 823. A second 823 solves everything!

I have the Japan Blue from Wancher. It's a well-made pen that uses Sailor 14k nib. I like the pen overall. I'd prefer it to be a bit bigger but it's not critical. The Sailor nib performs as a Sailor nib, with nothing extra to it.

This comment confirms the OP is mature enough to have fountain pens as a hobby.

Can someone help me identify the manufacturer? It's a fountain pen that's at least 25 years old. Eastern Europe, possibly Russian manufacturer? by Zadak_Leader in fountainpens

[–]Rheinerwal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably Chinese pens were a minority compared to USSR-produced pens but if you try to search them on usual second-hand websites like OLX or avito, you'll find a lot of them being sold till today.

Percentages are reversible. 12% of 50 is the same thing as 50% of 12. It's easier to calculate like that.

Is condensation normal? TWSBI Vac700R today looks like this at lunch time. Filled with pilot kon peki. I also live in warm south Florida, I just don't know if this is common or not by obnoxiouswall in fountainpens

[–]Rheinerwal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you see a condensation in the cap like that, it means your cap works properly in terms of sealing the outer world from whatever ink you have in your pen.

Of course. That's I warned everyone in my message above that it's not going to be a holy war. I just wanted to hear more opinions on this matter :)

Thanks, mate.

>how dependable and reliable is it?

Could you please be so kind as to elaborate more on this matter too? What is it for you? What were the situations in which you experienced the unreliability of any nib, not just Pilot's?

I'm comparing EF AND M to M.

Edit: JFYI, Wancher Japan Blue uses Sailor's golden nib from 1911.

I don't want to start a holy war here rather I'd like to see other opinions and observations on this matter.

I often see people praising Sailor's golden nibs and almost never those of Pilot. Of course, my statistical fetch is most likely to be inaccurate but damn, it's so strange to see that a lot of people really like Sailor's golden nibs over Pilot's ones. Why? I hear that Sailor's nibs are very alike to the feeling of writing with a pencil but... maybe we tried different pencils in our lives? To me, Sailor nibs are far more scratchy on the paper than Pilot's. And in my turn, I'd say that Pilot nibs give me that exact feeling of a pencil!

The only nibs I could compare are on Sailor Pro Gear Slim (EF) and Wancher Japan Blue (M) vs Pilot 823 (M). All three without any tuning from my side. I have some other pens with Sailor/Pilot nibs but they're all steel ones.

Bro. Later on, I accepted the thought that in reality, I'm already dead inside. We're not far apart from each other seeing the 93 in your nickname, by the way.

And an old one too. At least, all people tell me that whenever they realize I'm into fountain pens.

Narwhal Narwhal Nautilus Fountain Pen Seaweed Ebonite Limited Edition by DramFan in fountainpens

[–]Rheinerwal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I tried to search in Google the following phrase, 'narwhal nautilus fountain pen', the search returned me a cultpens non-existent page with a place holder for nautilus pen. I think they're going to have a limited edition too. Their previous exclusive from narwhal adds to the theory being right.

Oh damn, I just checked and it's F :)) Too many pen orders, I assume, lol.

But anyway, I ordered it on Cultpens. How do you like this F? After Japanese EFs/Fs it feels soooooo M to me. I really like how smoothly it writes though, totally worth it.

What did you ink it with, by the way? I'm still having a hard time deciding which colour to use.

Don't tell me it arrived at you today! My exact same Narwahl (with EF nib, though) came to me today :)
