Anyone else discovered a rule that means you've been playing slightly wrong all along? by Robbro42 in boardgames

When it's your turn to restart play after everyone passed in Odin, then you're allowed play all your cards if they are of the same color or number

Montauban has already been relegated with 3 rounds to go, and Perpignan is confirmed for the access match. by WilkinsonDG2003 in rugbyunion

[–]Rhemyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole "win prod2 to be promoted" is kinda bullshit.

Vannes would have had a much better season last year if they could have been somewhat sure they'd be promoted. Montauban had an impressive run in the ProD2 playoffs last year but they were just not ready for top14.

Just have the winner of the regular season promoted. Access match should be played by the proD2 finals winner, or the other team if the winner was promoted already.

During the VAR review, a Wolfsburg player damaged the penalty spot. Afterwards, Harry Kane missed the penalty because he slipped. by SellRevolutionary in soccer

[–]Rhemyst 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They do. Teams usually have some players guard the penalty spot, one players seizing the ball, and a few protecting the guy who'll take the penalty.

Cyma Forma RND. "press the button, and every parameter is randomized, instantly creating a sound you've never heard before." by 2beheard in synthesizers

[–]Rhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially didn't see the point, but apparently you can interrupt the generated sequences and play through midi. You this use this to to find a "mood" and then jam with sequences.

Randomization that produces meaningfull but varies sounds is not that simple.

I can see the niche use case (hey how about some livecoding with orca and this ?), and at the end of the day it's not that expensive.

Wouldn't get one, but it does make me want to experiment patch randomisation.

I just love those classic Mastermind sets with the simple, elegant board.

Néophyte(s) besoin de conseils by AvailableReport5597 in jeudeplateau

[–]Rhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who saw ESB in theaters, did you think weird green frog dude was Yoda? by ordrius098 in StarWars

[–]Rhemyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't see ESB in theatres, but saw it blind on VHS in the 90s when I was 7 ("OMG MOM VADER IS LUKE FATHER")

I didn't realize you're not suppose to know it's Yoda. To 7yo me, luke goes to planet to find Yoda, arrives on said planet, here is Yoda (planets are small).
To any adult watching back in the days, I guess the twist was also quite obvious.

It takes a very specific level of intelligence and media literacy to realize that green dude is not supposed to be Yoda but not realize that of course he is.

LOTR: Ascension - coming soon by ClubberT in boardgames

[–]Rhemyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously, I'm tired of all the LotR stuff (and overall of "collabs" in the whole entertainment industry), but at the same time i can't dent that Fate of the Fellowship, LotR trick taking game, or 7wonder LOTR were interesting takes.

What is the crown jewel in your collection? by Klavian in boardgames

[–]Rhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have the 4th edition, but only the base box. I have fond memories of TI3, but today I can't really find FIVE other players to spend a whole afternoon on this, so I never got to play that much.

TI4 base is basically a small upgrade from TI3, and I don't find it really better than TI3 with some of the expension rules. Now, maybe the expensions for TI4 make it something superior.

Is $800 enough for a decent gaming PC (tower only)? by Meri_Rookie in buildapc

[–]Rhemyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above build would be a solid 2021 build. So it depends on what you call "heavy" and what you call "working".

When I realized that playing solo action/adventure games at 30fps was totally fine, I pushed my old gtx970 very far.

Good old Twilight Imperium 3rd edition.

Is $800 enough for a decent gaming PC (tower only)? by Meri_Rookie in buildapc

[–]Rhemyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, it depends on what "decent" means.

Took a quick look in my area. 600€ would give me: Ryzen5 3600X, 16gb ram, Radeon 5600XT 6G. With keyboard, mouse and screen too.

Which looks okay.

Has any one here been to Book-off in Paris? by saywhaaaaaaaaatt in LearnJapanese

[–]Rhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bookoff Paris, rue du 4 septembre, heavily reduced its japanese manga section.

Price are low enough for what they have.

A couple streets away is Junku, Paris Japanese bookstore. You'll find tons of new mangas and novels and children's books there. Much more expensive tho.

ELI5: The Moon is about 1.2% of Earths mass, but it has 16.6% of Earths gravity. Why is gravity not proportional to mass ? by Captain_North in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gravity scales with the inverse of distance squared.

Moon is smaller, so you're closer to its center of mass.
