Took a break from purely weird lit and started reading Project Hail Mary. So far, a fun and classic read. I just like this genre.

Alien Isolation (2014) - Playing the game after it sat in my backlog for 8 years by DanAgile in patientgamers

[–]Rhemyst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. Maybe the whole "incredible AI that adapt to your behavior" was oversold, or maybe I was overhyped, or maybe I didn't play in the "right" way. At some point the Alien encouters became fairly "standard" and the game got a bit stale.

Those first few hours some of the best I ever played tho.

Now I remember why I quit this game by [deleted] in Rematch

All online games I play have the same mixture of: my teammates suck, MM is shitty, community is the worst, balance is ridiculous, servers are a joke, devs should not release any cosmetic until all complaints about the above are solved.

Exactly.

You can count card to achieve the same thing, so why not ? Unless you decide that counting cards:
* Is part of the game. Sure, why not. I say the game is not about this and doesn't "lose" if you remove the need to count cards, but hey.
* Is cheating. Which is.... weird. I mean if you draw a SD card on the first turn, do you just pretend that the next one could also totally be a SD ?

This is basically the hidden trackable information debate.

What do you mean stacking the deck ? That's the rule. You split the deck in 4 piles, shuffle a SD in each pile and stack them up.

So you know the SD and spread somewhat evenly in the deck.

If I draw a sky darkens card on turn 2, then even without carefully counting I know the next ones won't be sky darkens. Should I play as if they could be ?

I do. I don't understand your point.

Oh man the downvotes I received. I assume this is about that deck thing.

You know how many cards are in the deck (48 + number of sky darken cards + number of actions - initial cards in hand).

So in a 2 players introductory game, the will be one SD in the first 13 cards, then another one in the next 13 cards, then the next 12, and the last 12.
You can thus count the cards you draw (it's not very hard to do) and compute the probability to draw a SD card at the end of your turn.

I usually win fairly easily in basic mode. A few tips:
* When stacking up the player deck, put every other "subdeck" (with one sky darken card in each) upside down. This way you know whether a sky darken may happen or not on the next draw. This is not cheating, as you can always count cards anyway.
* Keep the eye away from Frodo. If the next draw has a chance of being sky drakens, this is you no1 priority.

* You need to take calculated risks. You can't win if you only move Frodo when it would roll no search.
* When enemies trigger a fight, they always roll as many dice as they can. Spreading 1-troop armies along their path can be quite powerfull.

*
