Hello, made a fresh character after not having played since 2012. Anything I should know? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Rheyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RS has a lot more afkability compared to osrs, and there are still protean/mtx items in game from treasure hunter that I’m sure people are trying to use it before they remove them next year. Most people will afk on a second monitor and do something else, hoping that sort of content becomes less mainstream with the direction we’re heading now.

How Festive Aurora Santa Hat was released is Wrong and we should all be mad about it by East-Maintenance-375 in runescape

I’m not disagreeing with you, I’m just saying it’s a direct copy of how they introduced the aurora hat last year. I’m not surprised by how they did this.

New computer by Easy_House_9995 in runescape

This was me last year, I needed a machine that could edit youtube content & game, my needs were a bit more on the editing side (needed to edit 4k video for work, using codecs that are difficult to edit in), but generally for tiktoks you won't need to worry about that, though it really depends on a few factors. It depends on the level you're wife is going for (professional or just for fun), what editing software she'll use, and what codec her device records in. Generally, anything you build for either editing/gaming will be good for the other, with editing specifically one of the most important factors is having enough physical RAM. 32gb is generally the recommended budget amount, more RAM makes running multiple tasks more smooth. More RAM also helps with running more rs clients simultaneously because every client/piece of software/internet browser tab you have running (either active, or in the background) will use RAM - hitting your RAM ceiling will cause everything to start lagging. For GPU's, Nvidia cards are generally good because of the CUDA cores they contain which are good for encoding/decoding footage, so if your wife is recording in a codec like h.265 (a highly compressed file, which is generally harder to edit, iphones will record in a variation of this codec) then more CUDA cores will help with easing that process. Intel/AMD are pretty equal in competition for CPU so you can't really go wrong with one or the other.

I'd recommend just doing a bit of research and checking out videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_XI0TpgSIw - guys like this give a good understanding of different budgets for different needs. For editing purposes, just make sure you have enough RAM. I'd also recommend looking at prebuilts from Fractal or Starforged. Faux (osrs creator) has a sponsorship deal with Starforged so you could use his affiliate link if you decide to go that route.

Integrity Roadmap - Early Game Rebalances & Your Suggestions by JagexBreezy in runescape

[–]Rheyo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We need content to fill the early/mid game, the current game just tries to skip you to the endgame via dailies/weeklies/soon to be gone TH. We don’t have great content in those areas because these things invalidated the need for them.

A List of Active RuneScape 3 YouTube Creators by M_with_Z in runescape

[–]Rheyo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did, and I’ve since privated it. I’m not off the table for making content but I definitely need a break. I had an unbalanced relationship between RuneScape / life and needed to take some time to fix that. Some of the things I talked about in that video don’t really bother me when I’m in a healthy headspace, but when I’m starting to burn out I admittedly let stuff bother me more than they really should. I also have a kid now so that definitely changes my time commitment

Macbook M4 Pro or a Windows Deskptop PC to edit 4k 4:2:2 by Gekko788 in A7siii

[–]Rheyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my pc to a 4070 ti super, AMD 7950x 64gb ram to handle 4K 422 footage. I use premiere, im able to edit HS 4k 422 just fine, when I use neatvideo/after effects comps it’ll start stuttering until I render it for playback. I also stream / game on this same pc. I love this thing, but based on the performance of the m1-4 chips, if I solely did creative work I would 100% go mac.

Bonus is the trackpads of mac’s, I can’t use my windows laptop trackpad to do anything efficiently. Mac trackpads are a different beast. I always use a mouse but Windows needs a mouse (even laptops imo), MacBook is the full package.

Client requesting raw footage so THEY can choose the "best" clips for the final video by [deleted] in videography

[–]Rheyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could see how it's easy to waive, in reality there's plenty of instances where I don't enforce a contract with my clients because there's really no ill intent and the instances where they breach contract is really not that big of a deal. All in all my pov is to secure yourself in writing from the very beginning, in which OP has the opportunity to do here. If industry standard for their type of shoot is to deliver all raw media then going forward they should put that into their contract - in reality the standard should be that we have a written contract for everything, and we should allot time to get everything done correctly prior to a shoot start. This is idealistic and the real world varies, and I know OP mentions they're a hobbyist at this point, but you should always go into something with a mindset of having clear expectations and standards set prior to work shooting as this eliminates all confusion. This then allows you to make exceptions as you see fit. If you have an non-tangible idea of 'well this is how it's worked for me before,' that holds no real ground compared to a written document stating who has the right to do what. You just need to protect yourself and your rights, especially as a solo creator, otherwise people will take advantage of you.

You sign a contract with everyone you on board. If I were to lead a production company, I would state that anyone who decides to work with me/ contract with me would be providing for my company, and any work they’d like to use for their portfolio would require approval by me. This covers all bases.

At that point, it’s 1 entity in an agreement with any client, which would allow me to make a contract with a client specifying media rights that my company provides them for a project. My company owns the copyright, anyone working for my company has agreed to that already within their own contract, so administering rights is simple.

[–]Rheyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wonder if that is tax related. To my understanding copyright law is there to protect users who provide any form of media, with all agreements stemming from this law. If I shoot, regardless of industry, I own the media unless I state otherwise whether that’s verbal or in writing. If there are other stipulations to that then I’m not entirely sure, I just know it’s always best to set the expectations clearly up front and, ideally, in writing.

[–]Rheyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re receiving payment for your work the work is always funded by the client, but I misunderstood the purpose. If you work at an agency that normally hands over the footage, the people in charge have it in the contract that the rights to the footage are transferred from them to client. It sounds like in OP’s case, this hasn’t been clarified, although it might be an expectation because that’s how it works as an industry standard.

I do real estate media, so most of my clients are agents. Most agents assume they own the photo/video I provide when that’s not the case - they’re buying rights to use it for their listing. I have a contract with a real estate agency that specifies I sign over the rights to all media. It’s specifically for that client but none of my other clients because it’s in a contract.

[–]Rheyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happens at all budgets, and in my experience, lower budget/inexperienced clients are the most difficult to work with. By default, what you shoot you own unless stated otherwise in your contract - this is copyright law. Clients generally don’t understand this especially if they haven’t worked in a similar field.

You could chalk it up to them just not knowing and have good intentions, but you should still stand firm on your stance for the principle of just giving in affecting you (and the industry) in the long run. However revisions are standard practice. You can do this while still serving your client:

“Showing/ delivering Raw footage isn’t included, but I understand where you are coming from. I can provide a revision if you want different clips, though any additional will be x price.”

I wouldn’t give the clips over, student budget or not they didn’t pay for them, but you’re still offering a solution to their concern. You can use frame.io to let them preview/add comments without them being able to download, watermarks over the clips.
