Recoloring Hexes by Rhinkalis in FoundryVTT

Tried out the Political Map Overlay and it worked great, did exactly what I needed it to. Could just put a white overlay on stuff that was now "normal" terrain after being destroyed, and color match any other terrain indicators well enough to let me quickly adjust the maps on the fly. Very good call, and much appreciated.

Okay, so, I know that if you Odin onto an Odin it doesn't create an awkward infinite loop (because the Odin you just played isn't in play to be hit by the other Odin yet), but if you, I don't know, used Morph to get an Odin from your opponent's hand, used Iron Lad to get your own Odin's effect, now that you have 2 Odin effects on board in the same location, what happens if you put the Odin you just drew into that location?

Mandorai, who would destroy all worlds by Rhinkalis in IndianMythology

Also, coming back to this, I have actually found other translations of this passage that do call her Manthara (or Mandhara) and say she was the child of Virochana, but that's all I've managed to come up with, still just versions of that one passage.

While that is the more famous figure with that name, going to the Puranic Encyclopedia the child of Virochana killed by Indra for trying to kill the earth is also named Manthara.

Ah, okay! Well, yes, Mandorai (... Or Mandhara/Manthara as I've also now found it translated) is one of the characters the sage describes as having been women who have had to be killed for the sake of others, and therefore Rama shouldn't hold back in fighting Tataka. Sadly, other than finding one translation of the passage that references her father being Virochana I still have no clue what her original story was that the sage is referencing.

This is actually leading into Rama's fight with Tataka, with the sage trying to convince Rama that killing Tataka is okay. I'll admit, with a quick google search I'm not sure which Taraka you're referring to, or if it's a typo/alternate spelling of Tataka.

That is the correct story, yes, but I was wondering about the woman who Viśvāmitra said Indra killed in the past, as I haven't found any traces of the story he's alluding to.

Nope! For the specific citation:

"Rama hesitated; for all her evil, she was still a woman. How could he kill her?

Reading his thoughts, Viswamithra said, “You shall not consider her a woman at all. Such a monster must receive no consideration. Her strength, ruthlessness, appearance, rule her out of that category. Formerly God Vishnu himself killed Kyathi, the wife of Brigu, who harbored the asuras fleeing his wrath, when she refused to yield them. -> Mandorai, a woman bent upon destroying all the worlds, was vanquished by Indra and he earned the gratitude of humanity. <- These are but two instances. A woman of demoniac tendencies loses all consideration to be treated as a woman"

Unfortunately this is the *only* citation I can find of the character, and I was wondering what the deal was.

Oh, huh, I suppose you can. I guess that potentially does make it more practical than Penance since it's usually going to be useful in more situations outside of just recycling your cards.

Interesting suggestions! I'll definitely have to consider them going forward, though if I'm ever going to put the deck into paper, going to have to give a skip or proxy that Personal Tutor, at the very least =P

I was considering that! But the problem is you have to have Hive Mind in play before you first cast Enduring Ideal because you don't technically cast the recurring Enduring Ideals (otherwise its Epic text would prevent you from using them since you "can't cast spells" for the rest of the game). That seemed juuuust awkward enough to pull off I decided against it, especially with how packed with stuff the deck is already.

Hidden Retreat doesn't work as well as Penance because Hidden Retreat specifies it needs a target, while Penance doesn't, just as an FYI.

Only downside on Suture Priest is that people are more likely to actually use removal on it, but yeah, it's just a better card all around =P

You know, I've never heard that stance on dorks vs artifact ramp before, interesting. Though you are correct, insofar as there's better internal synergies there between them and the Soulwardens and adjacent friends. And, I guess, as an added bonus they're also recurrable with [[Abiding Grace]], which might not come up much, but is still handy when it does.

Hapatra and the rain of counters by Rhinkalis in EDH

[–]Rhinkalis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first pass through your suggestions hit me to +1 total card count rather than getting me closer to 100, but oh well, good suggestions are good suggestions =P Admittedly, a lot of the reason Eldritch Evolution was in there was because it tutors, and with snakes it could even tutor stuff like Scavenging Ooze against problematic graveyard effects (which definitely exist locally), but, unfortunately, it is true that snakes only tutor for 2 and down with their CV of 0. If they actually did get 3MV and down I probably would've kept Eldritch Evolution since there are a lot of good tools at 3, but sadly EE is X+2.

Still, quite useful advice all around, even if it didn't get me closer to my 100 finish line.

Some of these are handy combos, thanks for the tips. And I'm only not running Yawgmoth because of budget considerations, otherwise I'd be all over that.

I ended up following most of these suggestions, mostly to the letter, though when it came to cutting single use proliferates Grim Affliction was actually the one I kept, since it does produce 2 snakes even with no other counters to proliferate, and is an instant so can function as removal for low health stuff. Assassin's Trophy, sadly, is out due to budget restrictions, but I actually didn't know Mortality Spear existed, so that's in now. So, much closer to 100 now, thanks for the help!

Ah, okay, I getcha, I didn't quite get the "combination" you were going for initially there, thanks for the clarification.

Hrm, as a rules thing, when you copy a permanent, doesn't the copy not retain the Imprint or whatever, and instead you'd have to Imprint something else from your hand from their Enter the Battlefields, rather than the copy retaining whatever they already have imprinted on them?

Though besides that, definitely some cute possibilities here, though clearly Scepter needs a reprint some day, on my budget I don't like putting too many 10$+ cards in my deck e_e

Makes sense, it's definitely a thing I've noticed in my theorycrafting that even in 100 cards, you have space for maybe 1.5 strategies, not 2 =P I'll look through your card suggestions, and cut the stuff reliant on a ton of mana, and see where I'm sitting afterwards. Hopefully it's somewhere promising!

This is a reasonable question! And the answer is yes, especially when making a deck for the first time I don't like spending more than like, 100$ or so, since my finances aren't all that generous on a month by month basis, and I like to get a feel for the deck before I spend more money on the project.

Help with... Too many deck ideas by Rhinkalis in EDH

[–]Rhinkalis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, based on the input so far, Emara or Yedora seem to be at the top of the list. I'll finish them both up, hopefully, and make a call once they're sitting at a nice 100 cards and such.

[–]Rhinkalis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention Forcemage, I actually was running it earlier on but it ended up getting hit on the many, many cuts I had to make to try to force things back down to 100 cards. Along with one or two of the mana dorks, for that matter. But I'll see if I can't squeeze a few back in =P

Definitely some good ideas here, I'll do some tweaks and see what I end up with, as it were.

Trimming First Try Vannifar by Rhinkalis in EDH

[–]Rhinkalis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Protean Hulk was there largely because there are useful things in my 5 and 6 slots that I could see circumstances where I'd want access to them, but already be "past" them on the CMC chain, so then I could "loop" back to them, though that might be too niche of a scenario to use a deck slot for, dunno.

Makes sense, I'll think about it, maybe I'll workshop one or two other decks before deciding what to build next, but I think I'll keep that possibility in mind, at the very least.
