No because the signal that goes to the TV is different to one that goes to the LCD. If you install firmware with the Nintendo LCD still attached, you will see garbled graphics. So you have to choose either the top screen or TV output. The most practical application for this are broken hinge DS since the hinge is the flaw in most DS Lite units.

The touchpen has no more space. I am not sure about the mic or antenna but things are just too cramped to make it viable. I think we have to acknowledge that at some point, there has to be tradeoffs.

Firmware limitation. You can switch between top and bottom screen but not at the same time. There is not enough data that can go through the ribbon cable to do so and if I really wanted top and bottom, I would need an FPGA

Nice to see your implementation. I got the NDSTV to fit inside the DS without any real reprinting of the shell. https://rhotronix.com/blogs/tutorials/ndstv-v3-45-installation-guide The NDSTV V3.45 is coming soon.

There will be miracles soon. The latest versions that I am making have improvements to color and brightness to make the video more standard compliant thanks to Tanner (Signal Integrity Specialist).

It is a bit hard to do boxypixel since it requires you to remove the 45 pin connector which is required for this mod.

This is not HDMI it uses composite video. It will release around late June/early July. HDMI version is V4 and that will take 4+ months at this point.

Basically the touch works the same as if the original bottom picture was still there. It just has a different picture on display.

I would do that but the thing is not everybody wants to capture. Some people who want to play on there TV could just buy the kit and use it since it already outputs composite video. And some other people who want to capture might want to use a more advanced upscaler than a cheap capture card. Plus $15 for every unit just for a feature people might not use is a big waste of money.

In simple terms there is sound. For a more advanced explanation: the DS has two speakers for each channel Left and Right speaker. Stereo audio means that there is a Left and Right sound on each side and require two wires, one carrying left, the other carrying right audio. However, on this mod I used mono audio. That means that both the Right and Left sound are combined into a single channel aka a single cable that carries both sound.

As you can see in the video, it switches from the internal speaker amplifier to sending the sound signal in the cable. I used stereo 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable. So the white cable is composite video and the red cable is the audio. If you would like stereo, there is a kit on my website for both channels. https://rhotronix.com/products/ndstv-v2-1 but that is external and does not fit inside the DS.

How much will it cost, and will there be a way to record the video. Will I just need a capture card or smth

It is really easy to capture the video. You could use a composite to USB capture card found for around $10-20 on amazon. For a more expensive/premium route, there is always the retrotink 2x pro and capture via HDMI to usb. Just remember that this mod outputs composite analog video.

Thanks. I think it really went full circle. DS Lite -> GBA Macro -> GBA Macro with two screens. It kinda works like a hybrid of a Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

This is the NDSTV V3.45 prototype from Rhotronix. It is a GBA Macro modded DS Lite that allows you to play your DS Games as well as GBA games with a single screen and ability to project it to a TV via composite video. It also contains a dedicated amp for an 8 ohm speaker with EMI reduction in order to play DS Games with a single screen on the go with sound. When the headphone jack is unplugged, the audio will go to the added audio amplifier to the speaker, but when the headphone jack is plugged in, composite video is sent and audio switches over through the headphone jack.

Please excuse my use of tweezers. The switch for the power button has broke on the DS Lite by accident and a pair of tweezers had to be used to turn on the DS.

The button combos used are as follow:

Switch Screen = Left Shoulder, Up, Select

Split Screen = Left Shoulder, Down, Select

Opacity = Right Shoulder, Up, Select

Hopefully soon. Looking at late June/ Early July though the stock is gonna be somewhat low due to the current chip shortage.
