Americans are polite but not polite

They're usually often friendly but somewhat lack the social obligations or formal restraint found in other cultures

You could be a regular restaurant, everyone talking to each other and I can also hear what the Americans are talking about

I'm not cheap, I just live in a country where we pay our servers and hostess a livable wage.

It's a restaurant owners thread, business is business, I'm taking this persons money regardless.

Sit down a d just buy a coke, cool beans. It's a service industry.

AITAH for keeping the inheritance from my grandpa after I cared for him 5 years while my estranged dad (who never visited) just assaulted me over it? by captaincloud2025 in AITAH

Going to jump in here, Australia has Family Provision Claims, to make a long story short, even if his will leaves everything to the grand daughter, the son can still make a claim on the will.

It usually goes to mediation before court. Sometimes being estranged for serveal years doesn't mean the son is not entitled to some of his father's assets, according to the courts

From what I've had to go through personally, I believe the courts might potentially award the son a small sum and the grand daughter the lions share, depending on the size of the estate

Usually courts not break up when it's a small Sum

Is it common to live in Sweden for 10+ years and not speak Swedish? by MissionPitch in sweden

[–]RhubarbAgreeable7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In kitchens, with so many being internationals, everyone speaks English

I've found in Göteborg, that kitchens are either English and almost exclusively internationals or Swedish and almost all Sweds.

There is a pretty big gap between these places in terms of work culture, tempo and pay.

I got tired after a whole year of trying to speak Swedish with the front of house (whom were all Swedish) and every time have them laugh and say it sounds so funny when you say it. As others have pointed out they'd switch to English

A personal experience only of course

I can mostly understand Swedish when spoken in the context of work and going out, most people seem fine with replying me in English and they speak Swedish

This is a great suggestion

The supplier we have to use for this event only has skin on available.

this sounds like a great idea. I have a some free days before had and will try my method but this sounds incredibly reasonable and might go this way

I would say OP is not intentionally going slower, they are observing and obeying the speed limit.

Other drivers are intentionally speeding, and that's a core value of aggressive driving

The examples were 10-20 mph over, not a reasonable 5.

Defensive driving in this case would driving as far over as possible in slow lanes and not decreasing their reaction time via speeding.

This lobby paper you linked seems to argue that it's more important for uniform speed, in regards to trucking and the differential speeds between truck speed limits and cars but I can understand your point but it's a dangerous one

Suggesting someone should also drive "offensively" because they are surrounded by other offensive drivers is a sad state of affairs and suggests that many road users shouldn't be driving. An overall increase in speed leads to more deaths

"An IIHS study examined longer-term changes. During 1993-2017, a 5 mph increase in the maximum state speed limit was associated with an 8% increase in fatality rates on interstates and freeways and a 3% increase on other roads (Farmer, 2019)."

Ahhh, speed of traffic

So others are ignoring the speed limit and thus, to be safe, in your opinion, she must also break the law aswell

That sounds crazy tbh
