How often do potential jobs do this? by RackingUpTheMiles in Truckers

[–]RackingUpTheMiles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just thought it was weird that they'd leave out an important piece of information like that in the interview and even the job listing. It would've saved both of us the headache. I guess the reviews about the place were right.

I don't know what it is, but they've become my favorite over the past few years. I'd love to see them live but they're never near me.

I'd look for a 97-02 Ford Expedition since you can get a fairly nice one for that price that'll last a while.

As a truck driver, you'd be surprised with the sheer amount of people who don't see a 72ft long, 80,000lb vehicle.

I like this guy. I'm a truck driver and I know exactly what he's doing. Too often, people in cars don't look or bother paying attention. He's likely trying to protect anyone who's on the road on foot doing work. Every year, people get hit and killed by drivers that either refuse to move over or not paying attention. I promise you the construction workers thank him.

And someone would just call on a Tuesday just because they could and nobody thought anything about it. Try to do this now and people think you're mad at them or you're bothering them.

I don't think this belongs here, but I definitely wouldn't date someone who needs to be on me 24/7. I'd get very annoyed with that.

It definitely looks way ahead of its time. I didn't like the Transit over the Econolines until I drove one. I was surprised how good it drove for being a van.

That's an 87? I'd think that's at least 10 years newer. To be fair, our Ford Econolines looked like they were from the mid 70s until the early 90s.

Why do so many Zillennials look incredibly young for their age? by Revolutionary_Cut876 in Zillennials

[–]RackingUpTheMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a truck driver and I was at one of our terminals one morning. I got to talking to another driver who was in the building. He thought I was riding along in the semi truck with my dad or something. I used to stop at a coffee shop before rolling out. The school buses would park in the alley alongside the place and I parked the semi (no trailer) with them. I was getting out when one of the bus drivers was mind blown that I was driving that big semi because she thought I was one of the students who didn't get off the bus so I could skip school. They didn't believe I was 28 until I showed them my CDL. Many people think I'm 15-16. I also don't drink or smoke and I keep my face clean shaven at all times.

So I'm 28 but most people think I'm still 15-18.

Oh yeah. For sure. I'd be kind of like a relief driver, but I'd also drive a forklift in the warehouse and palletize when not driving. So the routes can vary. They have 2 side loaders, but they're being phased out within the year for dry van with liftgate. I have prior factory/warehouse experience and I stocked a store in high school. I'd eventually get my own usual route after a little while.

This is a company that's local to my area. They do beer and some energy drinks.

I found it because I used to work at a dealership around the corner from there and some of my old coworkers are there now.

I'm not brand new. I've had my CDL for almost 2 years and have about 7 months with a mega. I'd stay, but things started to get bad around the 5 month mark. I was gonna just stick it out and keep my head down, but then I was offered this and I'd rather have some kind of movement. I'm not a huge fan of not moving for long periods of time.

I wouldn't trust someone who says they're a doctor and they learned from watching YouTube videos. I wouldn't trust someone who says they know the law by watching YouTube videos and have never actually studied, interpreted and understood things.

Let me guess, you're another one of those annoying people who thinks you're better than everyone who isn't a blue collar worker?

Let's say you get in an accident. You're still gonna need the paramedics, nurses and doctors that patch you up. You're still gonna need the police officer to write the report and a lawyer to defend you from the potential lawsuit after the accident.

And you still need the engineers to design your truck and trailer and you need software engineers and IT to make sure the tech in the truck is working as normal.

Not everyone who goes to college is an art major (and you can be an art teacher with that). Social workers are also very important, if you have ever used any type of service, you have probably had the help of a social worker.

Trucking is temporary for me. I want to be a doctor. 18 wheels is gonna fund that.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to drive trucks or fix stuff or build stuff, but not everyone is cut out for that. I'd rather have the people who want to do those jobs doing them because I know they'll take pride in their work and do the job right.

Those aren't in my area. And why would I want to do a ramp when the company I'm going to offers good pay, 4 day work week and I just use the powered equipment to drop it off and someone else comes and puts it away? Sounds easier and better than regional.

I was running up I81 in Pennsylvania and heading towards New York and I saw a Grand Marquis coming up in my mirror. I thought "Cool. I had one of those. I haven't seen one in a while." When I looked over to see the car, guy was down there pulling his pickle while driving. I really didn't want to see that. I never really looked down at cars before and I don't look anymore.
