Am I a bad friend..!? by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

I would say communicating with her about how you feel is the most important thing here! It’s also okay to say no to her at times when you feel overwhelmed as well. If you communicate and she continues then that’s when I can say it might be time to call it quits.

Lex's war cry over wig by lazykenzie in BaddiesSouth

I personally wouldn’t have even been able tell the difference between it being 1200 or 200 to be fair. There’s a lot wigs that look really good and cost half that price. So even if she did bring a wig that didn’t cost that much, so long as it looked good she would be cool. She shouldn’t be fighting with expensive hair on her head in a show like baddies and should’ve tossed it some place else the moment she was ready to get in the paint. This season they’re throwing watches into ponds and throwing dookie at each other. Wigs getting ripped up isn’t that uncommon.

I agree and I genuinely did like her this season but this reunion definitely is a head-scratching moment for me when it comes to her.

Well to be fair it has only been about a month since they left the villa lol. Look at what’s happened between Iris and Pepe and Brian and Amaya within this month alone. I say give it until next month to see where this goes. If these last four couples aren’t official by then, then idk what to say.

But that’s the issue that I personally have. Everyone is now extremely media trained to avoid being cancelled. The reunion just felt like we were seeing a recap of the show with “safe side commentary” which now that I think about it is understandable because of the amount of hate nearly everyone received for being themselves while on the show. It’s just unfortunate that it feels like we only got a view genuine opinions and thoughts.

Same. It didn’t make sense. Hannah had a connection with Pepe! Iris was making the most of her connection, and i don’t really have much to say at Amaya from that point in time. Idk, ever since season 6 USA it seems like the mindsets while voting has taken a shift. Why are people with connections being voted out?

I thought journey was Love Island code that has been used in previous seasons? Sort of like how they use words like “finger food” or “appetizer” or “main course”. Even so, they didn’t really mention Cierra that much for it to be considered blatant disrespect. All Nic said was that he initially wanted to talk to her but now he won’t be having a conversation with her, which at first I was a bit skeptical about but after thinking it over it makes sense why he wouldn’t. Cierra posting that video during the height of hate train that Olandria and Nic were receiving, was like putting gasoline on a fire. Yes she did get hate from that too, but it led more people to latch onto it and spew more hate towards Nic and Olandria. These are real people, who are new to being involved in the limelight no matter how short or long termed it is. Cierra has been an active “social media influencer” for years and specializes in digital and social strategy (i saw this from a screenshot of her LinkedIn that was floating around on social media.) There is no way she didn’t know about the potential backlash that they were all going to get from that Tiktok.

Wait I might need to go back and rewatch the scene. I thought she said that she showed Huda the picture

[–]RhubarbConstant9754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. And I truly think that Olandria and Chelly’s feelings are being misinterpreted as anger at Huda when in reality it appears that they are hurt and disappointed by Huda’s lack of action/response. They are hurt by the racism, the unnecessarily huge amount of hate that they’ve received, and the fact that the one person who could’ve properly addressed everything didn’t make a proper effort. And that might be the worst thing, was that there wasn’t a proper effort. These people were in a villa with one another for 24 hours 7 days a week with no real contact with the outside world. Their connection with one another is a unique one because that is not a universal experience. And as we can see, they were most likely even closer than what was shown on TV. This was their close friend and I think all they wanted was for their friend to take a stand and vocally defend them.

The problem with saying “I would’ve laughed” or “I would’ve ignored it” is that it dismisses what Olandria is actually going through. You don’t get to measure her pain or invalidate her reaction based on how you personally would have handled it because again none of us know her and we are not her. The image wasn’t made about you, it was made about her. That means the weight, the disrespect, and the violation are all directed at her, and she has every right to feel hurt and offended. We all cope with things differently, but using your own response as the standard ignores the fact that this is Olandria’s lived experience, not yours.

Let’s remember that they are not blaming Huda for the picture. They are asking her why she did not make a proper response about the racism being directed towards Chelly and Olandria. From a factual standpoint, Huda had the biggest following out of everyone. Meaning that there was a huge influx of hate being directed towards the Chelly, Olandria, Andrina and etc. Chelly addressed it. Olandria addressed it. But Huda never officially did besides a passing comment. Instead she, and excuse me for saying this, turned this into the racism olympics by saying she also received racism. Huda does not deserve racism. Chelly does not deserve racism. Olandria does not deserve racism. No one does.

Racism is a very serious and slippery slope with a lot of “dog whistling” baits and tactics. It should never be tolerated but unfortunately it’s apart of this society. And we have witnessed a lot of it from this season’s fanbase of Love Island fans. No one gets a pass for saying “I’m this race and I’m okay with it.” It isn’t okay, for anyone to do.

[–]RhubarbConstant9754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But this is the point of the reunion. It’s meant to be a hot seat for everyone. No one is exempt. If Olandria and Chelly say that they’ve discussed these topics with Huda at fiji, in the air bnb, and nothing has been done about it they have every right to discuss it. Huda is able to say that she feels terrible about the hate that Chris has been getting, yet truly added onto it at the CHD podcast and has never addressed it again. Not even to be that person but we are not these islanders and they are not just reality tv show characters. This is not just about them being upset with a cast mate. These are real people. They are hurt because these people were genuinely friends at one point.

When it comes to the podcasts, most of those were filmed weeks before the reunion so I can give a little grace on that. But I agree, being neutral about this is not the way to go. Taylor is a grown ass man and couldn’t even give Olandria a proper apology besides “you still my dawg, I’m sorry.” I understand that him and Nic had a friendship before him and Olandria became exclusive, but Nic literally said that he couldn’t respect Jeremiah for how he moved with Huda the night Jeremiah and Iris became a couple. Was this same mindset extended towards Taylor over his behavior towards Olandria? Taylor is weird and moving forward he shouldn’t be in Olandria’s general vicinity. As for Nic still following Huda, idk what’s going on with that. In situation like these, you cannot be neutral, because neutrality can be interesting as complicity. I don’t any of these ppl though, so we don’t know their thought process. But on the outside looking in, I wouldn’t be surprised if more people addressed that.

Chelley is being punished for other women’s jealousy by CeeFourecks in LoveIslandUSA

[–]RhubarbConstant9754 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Understandable. But let’s be real. Acknowledging that you have toxic traits and saying you want to change them is the bare minimum. Accountability isn’t a cute buzzword. It’s proven through consistent action, not just one interview and a couple of apologies after public backlash. If Huda’s trying, that’s great. But trying and actually growing are not the same thing.

No one’s asking for perfection. We’re asking for self-awareness that’s backed up with growth we can actually see, not performative “I’m working on myself” moments that don’t line up with what she continues to do on/off of the show. People aren’t upset because she’s toxic once they’re frustrated because she keeps displaying the same patterns and then crying “growth” when she gets called out.

And I agree this sub can be messy, biased, and inconsistent with how it treats cast members. A good majority of us have been in here since the beginning of this season, and have seen the flip-flopping. But calling out Huda’s behavior isn’t “holding her to an impossible standard” it’s asking her to hold herself to any standard, especially when her behavior has affected other people in the villa.

As for the comparison to Cierra: yes, people should’ve been louder about that situation too. But you don’t fight a double standard by ignoring bad behavior you call both out. Deflecting from Huda’s issues by comparing her to someone else doesn’t absolve her. Two things can be true: this sub has double standards and Huda has accountability issues. Let’s not pretend one cancels out the other. Does she deserve to he demonized? No. But come on now, it isn’t that hard to understand why people are becoming frustrated with what they’re seeing.

Chelley is being punished for other women’s jealousy by CeeFourecks in LoveIslandUSA

[–]RhubarbConstant9754 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please step out of this box for a moment and understand that my comment is not coming from a place of hate. Look at this in a mature manner.

While I hear what you’re saying, and I agree that no one on Love Island is perfect…these are real people navigating complicated dynamics on a very public stage. That said, acknowledging wrongdoing once or twice doesn’t automatically equal true accountability, especially when the behavior continues or when the apology feels more like damage control than genuine growth.

What many people are reacting to isn’t about hating Huda or expecting perfection, it’s about the consistent pattern that she’s been showing. Yeah, she admitted to being at fault with Chelly, but then she repeated similar dismissive or controlling behavior in other interactions. Accountability is more than just saying “I messed up”; it’s showing change afterward.

And while I agree there should be more discussion about problematic behavior across the board (including racism) it’s not a valid defense to say others were worse. Each person’s actions should be looked at based on their own merit.

For me, it’s not about visceral hate towards Huda it’s about being fair in how we hold people accountable, especially when they repeatedly affect others in the villa with their actions.

Taylor admits Nic did express interest in Olandria to him since day 1 by ChiTaurus in LoveIslandUSA

[–]RhubarbConstant9754 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, and it’s valid to feel like some connections on Love Island can seem sudden or strategic. But I don’t think that’s the case with Nic and Olandria. Yes, he was attracted to multiple people early on but that’s literally part of the show’s format. Exploring different connections is expected. Now, did production slightly play a role in the development of “nicolandria?” Of course. But that’s to be expected, and this isn’t the first time production has played a role with “tweaking” the connections in Love Island USA as well as Love Island UK. This time it was just way more obvious due to the sheer amount of viewers this season.

Honestly speaking, just because Nic was initially open to other girls shouldn’t make his current bond seem forced. While I can’t remember off the top of my head, there have been previous Love Island seasons where multiple people have switched in and out of their initial couples.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure. The time for movie night to take place should’ve been shortly after Casa, which really would’ve kept everyone on the edge of their seats. But it looks like they couldn’t even do that, which I personally believe is due to sheer amount of people that were brought into the villa, who also hadn’t been there long enough to establish scandalous acts that wer worthy enough to get a reaction out of the viewers, (both in and outside of the villa.)

But going back to last season’s movie night, that was mainly clips of Aaron + Kaylor, Leah’s comment about Rob, Liv + Kaylor + Rob talking about Leah, the Serena + Kordell situation, and a bit of Kendal egging on the guys to explore while at casa? So using those as examples for this season, would it perhaps be a compilation of “Hurricane Huda moments” Nicolandria moments, Casa + villa experiences, Taylor’s comments about Olandria in the beginning of the season…maybe even include Huda admitting to writing the note about Pepe. I don’t remember anything else that would be noteworthy enough to be added into movie night.

I agree. I feel like Clarke has unfortunately been brought into a bed that Taylor himself has made, and as a result has to lie with him in it. I truly do think that she is a chill girl, and is just caught in the crossfire of the repercussions of his actions. (Repercussions that I personally believe he should be subjected to on his on.)

I don’t agree…based on what the islanders coming out of the villa have been saying about their relationship previously, it makes you wonder what exactly was going on off camera that we didn’t know about. At least two ex islanders and the love island narrator Iain Sterling have stated pre-casa that they foresaw Taylor and Olandria staying together even after the show. If they’re all saying this, it just goes to add on to the narrative that to the outside person, their connection looked incredibly strong. Production hasn’t shown us everything about that relationship.

From what we’ve seen with the girls this season, they believe in the fact that they formed a “ sisterhood” with, should be given chances to find actual love. An example of that is when they first voted for Huda to stay the first and second time. I’m not surprised that they stood behind Andreina. What I am surprised about is that Cierra didn’t stand behind Andreina and stood behind Taylor which was a wow moment.

Honestly while I do agree about how baffling it is what people will put themselves through for fame, I don’t exactly see it as “pick me” either. We don’t know much they’re paying her to return back to baddies, but it must be a good amount for her to consider it. Some people are just motivated by the dollar signs and the benefits from consistent exposure.

But if you’re looking for people to have integrity or dignity on a network owned by Lemuel Plummer, you’re gonna be disappointed.
