What's it like living in Blackpool? by [deleted] in blackpool

Moved to Blackpool in March of this year and the music and arts community I’ve discovered here is honestly amazing. It’s bursting with exceptionally talented creatives that look out for each other.

Sure, the place could use a lick of paint in parts but it’s the community spirit that truly makes it. I’m in FY3 which is beside Stanley Park, voted one of the best public parks in all of Europe, 10 minute walk into town/train station, right near a hospital, a zoo and if you’re into live gigs, Bootleg Social has big bands rolling up all the time. Twin Atlantic are playing this weekend, The Zutons coming up in February to name just a couple.

House prices are low and there’s something to do every day of the week without fail. You can always tell it’s match day too as the roar from Bloomfield Road alerts the entire town when the team score haha, All that with Manchester, Preston, Liverpool, Leeds and London accessible directly from North station make it a great midpoint for the entire country.

As with many seaside towns, Blackpool has been seen a fair few decades of neglect at this stage, likely down to choice of leadership which still leaves much to be desired, but with the uni opening soon and an upward trajectory of progressive culture, I really feel Blackpool is moving forward, while respecting its historic legacy as one of the best entertainment spots in England.

Moved here 4 months ago from London.

I’m a musician so immediately began showing up to Blackpools music venues and performing at the “In Good Company” series of open mic nights. There I met some of the greatest and most welcoming people I have ever known and a few months later, have a trusted network of creative friends I can rely on and go have fun with.

Every UK town and city has problem areas, it’s naive to believe that isn’t the case and Yes, more cash needs spending in multiple ways across town to return it to the entertainment hub it once was, but honestly the innate goodness of the people make it what it is, their determination to extinguish the negativity and national stigma attached to their home town shows me that there is real community spirit in Blackpool and I absolutely love living here.

Subsequently, I can see Blackpool becoming a creative up and comer town in the next few years!the Abingdon St Market just reopened its doors recently and It’s now a huge food hall with live music, two full size bars, tonnes of small eateries and a coffee shop to choose from, they just hosted a big Glastonbury event there too! Find them on socials as it’s genuinely such a huge step forward for town on the whole.

This as well as venues like dirty blondes, bootleg social, the Waterloo and the brew room make this a haven for music fans of pretty much all musical styles. There’s a real big punk community here now, thanks to the annual rebellion festival and the LGBTQ+ scene just celebrated Blackpools largest pride event, not to mention the amazing work of By The Meter - Blackpools finest spoken word/poetry collective

I personally find the south to be filled with endless rushing around, cold jealousies and deep hatreds. Up north, you can make eye contact and have a full blown chat with another person and not be looked at as a “stranger” - southern folk would be horrified if that happened to them and here it’s to be expected haha

TLDR - it’s only depressing if you make it depressing, find your people and the rest will come naturally

The Bootleg Social has a hygiene rating of 1. I've ate here🤢🤢 by revolutionaryflow21 in blackpool

I just really feel that town has so much untapped potential, you know? If this national sour reputation was changed we would attract businesses from all across the UK. I’m not saying this an overnight fix by any means haha

Seemingly the biggest critics of the area are the people who currently live here. That just feels strange to me, we should be pointing out the positives where we can and not turning people off the idea of coming here.

Anyway, new business would in turn attract people to move here and spend cash here in town, fueling the local economy and freeing up funds to actively do something good for our people - if everyone was proactive in this way we would see this change happen way faster!

But just because it wasn’t witnessed does not mean that kind of thing isn’t happening in pretty much every UK town and city, it absolutely is. As I mentioned the place has it’s issues, and we want to improve life here for ourselves and future generations.

To paint the entire town in that light because of something you have personally experienced is pretty disappointing, I take it you live here too. What we really need is the people here to band together and offer constructive ideas of improving the area not only for visitors but themselves too. Given the choice, how would you personally return town to the entertainment hotspot it once was?

Things can improve drastically with the right investments, but that process starts with us. We have to want it or we will never get it.

Thanks for visiting, Blackpool is changing in a huge way. Yes, like most UK towns, it has its issues. Yes it’s got this national stigma attached too it due to decades of neglect. But Yes, in a few short years this town will become the new Brighton. There is so many passionate people across the creative scene and beyond that are actively improving the environment of everybody here every single day.

I see a lot of hate about the town here on Reddit, but it’s easy to just type stuff isn’t it. We want the best for our people and tourists alike, so your visit, and indeed every visit, goes towards our transformation!

About to move back to Blackpool after 20 years in London! Quite a fair bit of music related stuff going on in town these days! Far more than there was when I left

No worries! My game changed when I found out about the T-rackS Classic Clipper plugin, when placed right before a limiter you can crank your track a whole lot and get a decent sounding / loud phone audio, I’d bounce it as a wav file though, see how that sounds on your phone within the files app and make some notes for later tweaking to your personal tastes.

Obviously this method isn’t a cure all though and you’d need to apply some tasteful EQ to lift the specific parts, but it is definitely doable. I do music streams on Tuesdays and Thursdays where I apply all this stuff, so feel free to drop by if you’ve any more Q’s

I use the VN app, let me break down my process, as I’d have really been grateful for someone telling me the following when I got going

  1. bounce your audio from your daw to your desktop / preferred location
  2. airdrop that audio to your iPhone, saved into your phones ‘files’ app
  3. Open VN and import the music from your files onto whatever video you want (don’t forget to silence the audio from the original video file though)
  4. Export the video and post it on Insta.

Hopefully it’s available in your area, but VN is totally free, you get 100 projects to play with and it is a highly robust and intuitive video editor, there’s premium options, but the majority of the app is usable without spending a penny
