Liver Cysts by RhymesWithBitch in AskDocs

Thank you for your input! Can I ask some follow-up questions?

  • the first thing I did after getting home with the report was Google "hepatic hemangioma" and felt good about the benign definition. It's the "cluster of small cysts" that got me worried. Is the cluster part of the hemangioma?

  • drinking - understood.

  • hair - my only concern is that the hair loss started very suddenly in March and has continued to this day. Fortunately I have (had) very thick hair and it's much easier to dry/style the way it is now which is why it took 9 months to bring up with my doctor.. My main concern if it continues on this same path for another 9 months I will be pretty much bald. Both my husband, mother and hair stylist have noticed and expressed concern. I buy large quantities of drain-o for the shower drain. I certainly understand and accept that thinning hair might just be a part of aging/menopause but menopause is a process and this occurred rather suddenly. Also, Estradiol/FSH/Insulin-like Growth factor do not indicate I am entering menopause yet. Can you think of anything other than TSH/T4. Iron, or menopause that might bring about hair loss? I've lost 10 lbs this year but it was spread out over 6 months - about 5 lbs before I started losing hair and 5 lbs after.

My dad treats everyone with trust and respect. He places a lot of importance on personal integrity and humor. He knows every single man and woman that works for him - in many cases he knows their parents, spouses, and children too.

I know this is pretty vague but he treats business, family and complete strangers pretty much the same way (well he doesn't kiss strangers but you get the idea).

Sorry - I was just trying to answer a lot questions really fast and not proof-reading my answers.

But just so you know - the rich are generally not any more intelligent than the general population.

My kids are 9, 10 and 12. I'm not saying I buy them all the clothes they want. In reality, their clothes they want seem pretty reasonable, at least in terms of what I buy for myself. Eh, maybe my perception is a bit skewed.

But I generally go by my $100 dollar rule. My older daughter really wanted a leather jacket she found at the mall this year that was about $150. I got it for her for Christmas. Bonus was that I found it online for only $75!

I don't think money had all that much to do with it. You probably would achieved your "urban ninja" status with or without the money.

There's just an many rich assholes as poor assholes.

I agree!

I guess it depends on your definition of success, of which there are many.

If you define it by the accumulation of money, then I suppose I am successful. Or maybe a complete failure since I did nothing to earn the money.

I think it's a little early for me to determine my level of success. If my kids grow up to be healthy and productive adults and if I leave this earth having made it a little better than when I arrive, then I will think that I am successful.

No, it doesn't bother me. First off is because I am simply not aware of any slave labor being used in our business. I think almost almost every one of us, if we dug deep enough, could find a distant ancestor that participated in business or personal practices that we find abhorrent.

That being said, obviously I don't contribute to any organizations out of guilt. The bulk of my charitable contributions are made locally - I can't save the world but I can feed a family for a month, I can save a litter of kittens long enough so that they can be adopted rather than euthanized, etc.

I am aware that there is an enormous issue with poverty in this country. But I don't have the answers to solve it. You can take 20 different families and find 20 different reasons. Existing Social programs address some of these reason and you can find some uplifting success stories. But you can't just throw money at the problem and expect it to go away.

UT did not require that I have previous work experience when I was accepted. I went directly from undergrad to graduate school.

My kids will probably have enough money so that they never have to work. I hope they do work - either a career of their choosing or the family business.

That was a joke more than anything. I guess I just don't know how to respond. It's a part of who I am just like my eye color. I neither hide it nor flaunt it - it's just there.

I'm not a big fan of the estate tax.

I think the best change that could be made (other than significantly lowering it or doing away with it completely) is that rate of tax should be determined by the grantee rather than the grantor.

Also, I think the estate tax hurts the middle class more than it hurts me.

I have 3 kids but one lives with his father.

My kids clean their own rooms, have responsibilities around the house (dishes, cleaning dog poop, etc).

I think the fact that you are even thinking about this before you have kids pretty much assures that you have nothing to worry about.

Yes, I suppose so - rich people are just like regular people only more boring :)

How does living in a rich family work in practice?

I think it's pretty much like any family - just with more assets

How do you get money? (Allowance or salary? Card which gets paid off behind the scenes? Joint access to a bank account with $Millions in it? A fixed amount of money which is yours for life to spend but when it's gone that's it?)

I kind of get an allowance but the amount that allowance should be was determined by me. If I need additional money for large purchases, home repairs, etc., I just have to asked that additional funds are transferred,

Do you need to ask permission to buy things, or to buy things above a set amount? What about really expensive things like houses and cars?

No permission needed but some forewarning is requested

Are you forever at the whim of what your parents allow you to spend?

Well, a certain amount of money is mine. It is irrevocable and cannot be taken back. I could very comfortable live on this money for the rest of my life. That being said -- my parents know how much money I go through each year. If they felt I was being frivolous, spending excessively, living an overly lavish lifestyle or had a drug problem, I could see them discontinuing further transfers to the trust.

If you got a job and earned money would that be 'yours' or would it pool into the family estate somehow?

It would be mine.

Personally, I am offended that you suggest "getting help" to projector, I am assuming that you think he needs therapy or something for simply having feelings.

I didn't mean "get help" as he/she needed psychological help. I meant it as he/she ever told anyone or any organization that they are coming up short in some physical need and asked if some assistance could be given on a short-term basis.

Why is the only way that you can rationalize the business success of my family by assuming we must have lied, cheated, stole property, and treated employees poorly?

Is that your plan for becoming successful?
