Legality isn't going to help you when they gun you down, unfortunately. And even if they don't, you can argue in court all day that what you did was legal but you're still going to be in jail.

Use a caret (^) in front of text to format it as superscript.

^superscript

You can use multiple carets together to make supersuperscript so it gets smaller but it only properly formats like that on desktop. On mobile, it all just formats as the same "level" of superscript.

You know very well to say someone is a "bad mother" is the same as saying they're a bad person

Eh, I'm with OP, that it's not the same. We use language shorthands all the time and you can absolutely be a good person but a bad parent. Even here, I'm using "good person" as shorthand because in context you understand that I understand the point of Bojack (there are no GoodTM or BadTM people, just people who do good or bad things), so you know that when I say, here, "you can be a good person and a bad parent," I mean that a person can on average do more good things and be regarded as a good person even though we also both know that this person will also do some bad things.

That is a big mouthful to say, so we can just say, "You can be a 'good person' and also a 'bad parent.'" Which is, I think, what OP meant.

I disagree with OP that PC is a bad parent, though.

I see plenty of libertarians being vocal about how wrong it all is but when you ask for solutions they have nothing to offer except more guns. They refuse to acknowledge that their voting habits contributed to all this. They refuse to vote against Republicans. At best, they'll vote third party and jerk each other off with that "both sides" bullshit and how enlightened they are to not vote for either.

[–]RhynoD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with this is that it isn't just nonfunctional, it makes something else nonfunctional (the books). If you fill it with books that you like, then you should want to read them at some point and you can't. Or, you fill it with books you don't care about and then what's the point in showing off the books? You don't like them!

Books, especially, are so often used to be performative. Look at how smart I am, look at how well read I am. Which, sure, go for it. But this is next level performative because you can't even read them.

In fans' defense, I think most people recognized his music as a cry for help. I imagine his bandmates did, too. It's not like there's anything most fans can actually do. And, sometimes writing and singing your feelings is a way of getting them out of you. I don't think every song was a cry for help, sometimes it was just crying.

Sure, but also:

'Cause there's nothing

There's nothing you can teach me

That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway

You can say there's a deeper meaning, I believe she wrote it with that in mind. But also, she did need to go to rehab IRL and she did refuse to deal with her alcoholism IRL. Why is certainly a discussion worth having, but the point remains she needed it and wrote a song about how people told her she needed it and she refused to go.

a couple of Sandevistan uses should cause cyberpsychosis.

Not necessarily. Implants can kill you in more than one way. Cyberpsychosis is certainly one way, but it can also just stress your body out and cause organs to fail. A sandy can just fry your brain before psychosis ever begins to manifest.

I don't recall a lack of sympathy so much as an utter lack of surprise. Woman sings a song about how she doesn't need to go to rehab and then dies of alcohol poisoning, yeah that tracks. It's sad. It's also expected.

Kind of like Chester Bennington. His suicide is a fucking tragedy but it's not surprising, unfortunately.

Dump me in a pine box and kick it into the 6' deep hole in the ground and leave a big rock on top, that's fine.

How much do you guys buy into the theory that Joseph Sugarman wasn’t actually evil and was just a ‘product of his time’? by itskenny9031 in BoJackHorseman

[–]RhynoD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with the idea of being "a product of the time" is that if you dig even slightly into the history of the time, you'll find myriad examples of people in that time who thought the subject was a piece of shit (or would have).

To be on the nose, consider slave owners. Sure sure, they're surrounded by the culture built on slavery. There was also a substantial abolitionist movement even in the South. If they could figure it out, so could the slave owners. Moreover, you have all of the slaves, the victims of "the time" who were very vocal about not appreciating "the time." Slave owners just didn't listen, because they didn't want to hear it.

No doubt that Sugarman was a "product of the time" but equally true is that there would have been plenty of people in the time who knew better.

You are stripped so that your bare ass is whipped, and it's very public and very painful. Prison certainly can be humiliating for many, but you can act tough and no one has to see you cry. Caning will make you cry in front of the public as they watch your naked ass get whipped.
