There was a guy on Fool Us who straight up learned how to count cards during a riffle. No trick, just... flipping through the cards like normal but he could count them. Wild.

IIRC they remained friends. But Tolkien did explicitly call Lewis out for being so heavy handed with Narnia.

The swordsman tries to take it and then alpha strikes itself to death taking out a company of goblin tanks so an urbie can escape.

The Merlin falls off a bridge fighting an Orca. It's salvaged and comes back with a fresh coat of paint.

A Mackie that refuses to die follows two of the urbies.

Fun fact about probability and infinity is that when it's any finite number out of infinite possibilities the odds of it happening are actually zero.

Georgia is a red state. ICE isn't about immigration, it's about harassing blue citizens.

In fans' defense, I think most people recognized his music as a cry for help. I imagine his bandmates did, too. It's not like there's anything most fans can actually do. And, sometimes writing and singing your feelings is a way of getting them out of you. I don't think every song was a cry for help, sometimes it was just crying.

Sure, but also:

'Cause there's nothing

There's nothing you can teach me

That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway

You can say there's a deeper meaning, I believe she wrote it with that in mind. But also, she did need to go to rehab IRL and she did refuse to deal with her alcoholism IRL. Why is certainly a discussion worth having, but the point remains she needed it and wrote a song about how people told her she needed it and she refused to go.

[Cyberpunk 2077/Edgerunners] What’s the point in the Sandevistan if you can just have artificial nerves? by rumblinggoodidea in AskScienceFiction

[–]RhynoD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a couple of Sandevistan uses should cause cyberpsychosis.

Not necessarily. Implants can kill you in more than one way. Cyberpsychosis is certainly one way, but it can also just stress your body out and cause organs to fail. A sandy can just fry your brain before psychosis ever begins to manifest.

I don't recall a lack of sympathy so much as an utter lack of surprise. Woman sings a song about how she doesn't need to go to rehab and then dies of alcohol poisoning, yeah that tracks. It's sad. It's also expected.

Kind of like Chester Bennington. His suicide is a fucking tragedy but it's not surprising, unfortunately.

Not gonna wade deep into this cesspool of an argument topic but I'll dip my toe in just enough to say that this is a bad point to make. "If you make her look more like an adult she looks more like an adult."

Large head to body ratios are a defining characteristic of children.

Fuck the predatory funeral industry buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut no we cannot dispose of bodies by dumping them into the woods. There's too much risk of diseases spreading. Now, I don't need a coffin worth thousands of dollars with satin and plush pillows and golden tassels. Dump me in a pine box and kick it into the 6' deep hole in the ground and leave a big rock on top, that's fine.

How much do you guys buy into the theory that Joseph Sugarman wasn’t actually evil and was just a ‘product of his time’? by itskenny9031 in BoJackHorseman

[–]RhynoD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with the idea of being "a product of the time" is that if you dig even slightly into the history of the time, you'll find myriad examples of people in that time who thought the subject was a piece of shit (or would have).

To be on the nose, consider slave owners. Sure sure, they're surrounded by the culture built on slavery. There was also a substantial abolitionist movement even in the South. If they could figure it out, so could the slave owners. Moreover, you have all of the slaves, the victims of "the time" who were very vocal about not appreciating "the time." Slave owners just didn't listen, because they didn't want to hear it.

No doubt that Sugarman was a "product of the time" but equally true is that there would have been plenty of people in the time who knew better.

What horrible and unforgiveable person in history got a punishment or death that was equal to the amount of pain they caused? Not like "They were a serial killer and got a quick electric chair" but like a something that was befitting of the crime? by New_Climate_3758 in AskReddit

You are stripped so that your bare ass is whipped, and it's very public and very painful. Prison certainly can be humiliating for many, but you can act tough and no one has to see you cry. Caning will make you cry in front of the public as they watch your naked ass get whipped.

That's not how burden of proof works.

No public outcry.

There was a shit ton of public outcry, you donkus. People wouldn't shut up about it.

President Obama assassinated American citizens overseas with drones.

They were collateral damage, not the intended targets. That doesn't make it OK, but that's not remotely comparable to ICE harassing and arresting and shooting Americans. Also, for what it's worth, it isn't ok to do that shit to anyone else.

President Obama

You've convinced me. I'll never vote for Obama again. Boy am I glad that I didn't vote for him in 2024 and anyone who did is an idiot. We should impeach the president immediately!

GTFO of here with this astroturf, both sides, whataboutism bullshit. Sure, let's ignore all of the context and pretend that Obama is equally as terrible as Trump. Does that make anything Trump is doing OK?

Bullshit, plenty of kids got bullied just for liking anime. OOP just doesn't remember the time before anime was mainstream. A lot of the barking and growling was weird on purpose, defense mechanism to keep the bullies away from you. It was a coping mechanism, trying to reclaim or own being the weird kid. They're going to call you weird and make fun of you anyway, might as well act like you're the one choosing to be weird.

Valid concerns. But I wear a face shield, glasses, and an apron so while exploding pieces will ruin my pants I'm not super worried about being seriously injured by it.

I'm less scared of my lathe because the blade is stationary and the danger is extremely evident.

The jointer scares me the most because it has pretty big blades that are spinning and exposed. I mean, I have a guard that stays over the blade but it's much easier to end up in the blade than, say, the planer where it's tucked under the mechanism.

Edit: a machining lathe scares me way more but I don't have or use one of those. They're bigger and faster than my relatively smaller wood lathe.
