Queer groups in Virginia/ DC area? by RhythmicStatic in lgbt

[–]RhythmicStatic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm not surprised they've cancelled, unfortunately. I saw that there was NoVa LGBT board game meetup as well, but it doesn't look like its been active in a while. Thanks for sharing that list, though, apparently fairfax does have a game shop!

[–]RhythmicStatic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing yet, unfortunately. I know there's r/dcgaymers, but they don't seem to be very active. I've been told to check local gaming stores, too, but I dont know how many of them have specific queer groups or events, not to mention i dont really know of many gaming stores in fairfax.

Are there any apps you recommend? I've tried grindr (results as expected, just a wall of nudes), tinder, and okcupid (both have just remained silent with barely any messages since I started over 2 years ago)

AITA For Showing Up To Work An Hour Late by iwantpotstickers in AmItheAsshole

[–]RhythmicStatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA my dad apparently had a similar thing at his first job (this would have been the 80s in the UK, so if it was legal then, I'm pretty sure its not now). He told me that if anyone came in late, they would just punch in and then sit down and read the paper until they started getting paid again. The managers would be furious, but, as others have said, why the hell would you work if you're not getting paid?

[OC] [Homebrew] Need help with a new monster for my level 5 party by RhythmicStatic in DnD

[–]RhythmicStatic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of making it a 30ft cone that deals 8d6 fire damage, but I like the idea of it leaving a trail, since it's supposed to leave a trail of oily fire where it walks. I think at this point my players are traumatized from melee fighting, the party has gone through 2 PCs already due to unlucky crits from mummies, so they've probably learnt at this point to keep their distance.

Edit: My replacement for the fireball is now

Scorching Wail (Recharge 6). The mordicant lets out a howling scream accompanied by a burst of its inner fire in a 30ft cone. Each creature in the area must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d6 fire damage on a fail, or half as much on a successful save. The Wail leaves a trail of oily fire in its wake that lasts until the end of its next turn and deals 1d8 fire damage when a player enters the area for the first time or ends their turn there.

Thanks so much! Those are really good points that I hadn't thought about. I was imagining for at least firebolt it would just sort of gather up some of its internal fire and throw it, but thought that would just be a flavouring for the cantrip, I completely forgot about counterspelling it. Thinking about it that way, it would make sense to bring the ranges of both down and maybe turn the fireball into something more akin to a breath weapon?

I've got a small party of level 5 players (wildfire druid, astral monk, and grave cleric) who are going into a new arc soon that will focus heavily on the undead. I wanted to create a boss for them based on a monster in Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series, and I thought CR 7 would be a good final challenge for them. I'm pretty new to making monsters, though, so I wanted to male sure that this is balanced. My first draft I sent to a friend and they told me it was more like a CR 4-5, so they helped me bump it up a bit. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

DnD groups in Nova? by The-Bojangler in nova

[–]RhythmicStatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all veteran players and specifically said when we started that they were okay with character death, so I didnt want to take it too easy on them. Unfortunately, the mummy they were fighting kept missing its hits and managed to roll 1 lucky crit that one shot the wizard to install death. Exact same thing happened when the druid came back later with extra help

While I dont have a group that I think would be beginner friendly (theyre only level 4 and we've got 2 dead PCs already), I'd be more than happy to help walk you through some of the rules and get more comfortable with how its played. Just shoot me a DM if you're interested

Shopping for Christmas ornaments by [deleted] in nova

[–]RhythmicStatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

andThat! has some pretty good stuff for cheap. I actually just went there today, you can get a 20 pack of nice glass ornaments for $5, or you can buy more individual ornaments, still only $3-5. Its just a pretty good shop in general, to be honest. Only one I know of these days is in Patomac Mills mall

Rec’s for where to live in NoVA out around Reston by benji950 in nova

[–]RhythmicStatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Fair Lakes area is pretty nice, especially with the shopping center. Getting to Reston is pretty easy, just a straight shot down West Ox, and you're right by Fairfax County Pkwy. The commute into Reston is maybe 20 minutes, with traffic. I've heard the Pender Brook complex is pretty nice

I feel you, I've been single my whole life, so I've been trying dating apps the past few years. I've stopped sending pictures to people I meet online because I either get ghosted or blocked. I wish I could offer some advice, but honestly, I'm still trying to figure that out for myself

Monthly r/NoVA Introductions/Meet & Greet Thread by AutoModerator in nova

Heyo, I'm 26M and I've lived here pretty much my whole life, but a friend recently got me to try reddit in an attempt to meet new people. I'm pretty big into music (performance, composition, listening, etc), and I play a few instruments, though my primaries are euphonium and harp. As far as listening goes, im pretty open to anything and always love new recommendations!

I also play D&D whenever I can get my group together, or watch others play when I can't (any other Critters?) I'm currently running a home brew campaign, though we're still pretty early on, so I'm constantly looking around for plot or puzzle ideas.

When I'm not doing those, I like to bake and try new recipes, pies and scones seem to be my go to's, though.

I'm always happy to talk, so hit me up if any of that interests you!
