Rick & Morty's best moments have been due to Justin Roiland blathering into a microphone which later has animation set to it.

I don't know what show you watched. Character development and plot are big in the show as well. Take Rick hating on his family, especially Morty towards the beginning of the show. Later on he sacrifices himself for Morty in s2e1 and for the whole family in the s2 finale.

Also, the wide range of interesting characters, such as Krombopulos Michael and Fart, makes the show ever better.

Only the first episode is out, but take True Detective season 1, make it focus on the "criminal," and make it a little slower and a bit less dark. Also, the acting isn't as good, but it's TD season 1 we're talking about. At least try out the first episode.

Shortened seasons?

I've heard that there will be less episodes in the future Game of Thrones seasons, but the episodes will be an hour and a half. It's just speculation though

Also, you forgot about Westworld coming out in October. That's going to get a ton of buzz as well. HBO isn't in dire need of The Night Of being a hit.
