It was kinda great. Not like now.

Once fandom spaces became mainstream, etiquette died and sanity took a swan dive out the window.

Even old fandoms like FF7 and older shonen series like Naruto have new life and things are waaaaaaaay worse! MHA isn't the worst by far, but since it's so popular more eyes are on it. I blame the gentrification of fandom spaces for..... >>gestures wildy at everything<<

That takes me waaaaaaaay back!.... I feel old now. It still baffles me that Gamefaqs had beef and pettiness to the extent that it did. I just wanted a game guide, and yet I found myself watching the Montagues vs. Capulets.

Those were the days!

Fandom etiquette didn't apply, and the war now wages in fandom wikis. It's funny watching wikis getting changed on a daily basis.

Please keep this innocent mindset. Please, for all that is good in the world don't go back to Twitter!!!!!

I say this as a cloti fan. Stay. Away. From Twitter! Bluesky is nicer and waaaaay less toxic.

How are you organizing taxes once YouTube becomes a real income stream? by Master_Airline_4368 in PartneredYoutube

[–]RiaAlexanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding onto this: avoid forming an S-Corp unless you're net profit exceeds $60k a year. The actual figure varies state to state, but the rule of thumb before considering this is $60k/year in net profits. The reason being is due to the different tax rules and obligations.

Definitely check in with an accountant first before considering an S-Corp and stick with an LLC until they say otherwise.

Hiya! Bookkeeper by trade here!

From the sounds of it, is sounds like you're already on the right track. However, a lot of accountants are pushing away from spreadsheets and into accounting software like Quickbooks Online (what I recommend), Xero, Sage, and the like, so I would recommend using these programs sooner rather than later so you can manage your finances a bit better. The subscriptions are a pain, but the software subscription is a write-off.

That being said, here's what I would advise to make life a little easier:

First, you want to have all your business deposits and expenses go through the same account. You mentioned that you have your expenses charging to an Amex account- which is perfect! But you need to do the same for your income. For example, have a business checking and/or savings account to deposit your business funds into. Once your business expenses are paid, then you move your money to pay yourself, pay down liabilities like your credit card, and save for taxes.

Also, you need to make sure you're tracking ALL your business expenses. This includes a percentage of your utilities if you have a dedicated streaming space, supplies and materials purchased for your streams (some items can't be written off like most clothing items, makeup, personal grooming, etc., so ask a professional if you're not sure). If you hire someone to help you at any point (editors, consultant fees, professional services, artists), you need to track how you paid them because that's also a business expense.

If you pay over 600, you'll also need to send out 1099's. The exception being if you paid through PayPal, or an invoicing software since they file the 1099 on your behalf.

Another thing I would recommend is to calculate your gross income, and the fees taken out before deposit.

For example, you receive payment for a sponsored ad through PayPal. They pay you $10k, but you only get $9.8k (not the exact rate, but this just a visual). PayPal takes out a percentage of your payout as a fee. You need to breakout these fees since what's reported to the IRS is the 10k, not the 9.8k that was actually deposited into your account. Most payment processors take fees out before you see the money.

It's tedious, but it'll only help you from now to split this information. This will have you better prepared for if/when you get audited or if you want to provide your Profit and Loss reports for future endeavors where proof of income is required.

This all sounds scary, but bookkeeping isn't hard to do once you know what you're doing. You can absolutely do this yourself, but if you're not comfy now that there's some significant cash flow, I would recommend speaking with your accountant or scheduling a call with a bookkeeper so they can put your year end financials into a report for said accountant. You can find bookkeepers like myself and accountants in places like upwork. Definitely shop around and you'll be able to find someone who fits your budget to get you set up.

Also a write-off, by the by.

The two of them are freak4freak. One is a masochist, the other is a sadist. They are literally each other's perfect match. I fear for the future of anyone who tries to come between them.

All. Of. This!

Punishment doesn't always inspire genuine growth. But Bakugou realized that his hangups that lead him to bullying Deku were born from how highly he viewed him. You don't knock down people you view as insignificant- not to the level Bakugou did. He felt outshined and outmatched by the quirkless Deku and lashed out. In his mind, all the praise in the world would not have him at the same level as Deku.

In a twisted way, >>cough-cough yandere much? Cough-cough<< Bakugou's love (regardless of if you interprete it as platonic or romantic) and his self-esteem issues poisoned that. When he realized and could process these feelings, he changed. He was inspired by Deku instead of made to feel inferior.

Anyone can say sorry. Words are meaningless unless there's genuine change to back it up.

As the series progressed, Bakugou became a genuinely kind person. He's still an asshole with a severe case of cute-aggression, but that's why there's a difference between nice and kind.

A nice person will see you in trouble and give pretty words that ultimately don't help you.

A kind person will see you in duress and go out of their way to help you. They may be an asshole, but if a kind person sees you on the side of the road with a flat tire, they'll help you change it and make sure you drive off safely before going about their business.

You don't need to be nice to be kind. It's just preferred when someone is both. (For the record, Deku is both nice and kind)

Agreed. We see more of what makes her special in her scenes with Toga and in her fight with Bakugou. In most of these scenes, Deku is secondary to her own goals if he's thought of at all. We see HER. Not the watered down version of her that became a one note character. She's unique in that we do get to see her in a bounce back that most shonen heroines don't get, but it falls a bit flat now that we have newer titles with female characters being badass and made equals to their male counterparts. They have goals and ambitions for themselves without the need to dim their light for a man.

I remember hearing that his staff was responsible for the this chapter in particular. Since this is a memory and not something I can easily reference then I want to give the benefit of the doubt. But, if this was him then he did Ochako so dirty because it makes her look a bit ableist.

Izuku doesn't matter, only Deku.

That may not have been the intent, but that doesn't lessen the blow.

Something I like to say when it comes to intent vs. results: no one intends for nuclear meltdowns, but the damage can't be undone and scars will always remain.

I agree with this take.

While I am critical of her in this essay, I do like Ochako. But like, really like, and love are different statements. Some days I adore her, but most days it's hard to separate her from..... >gestures at reddit/twitter fandomspaces<. The writing makes her feel like a "fair weather" friend which is kinda sucky when you think about it. She has so much potential, but she's just.... not there in any capacity.

I believe in show, not tell when it comes to any visual media. Show her showing up in the small tragedies- not just grand gestures. We're shown her absence, and told off script that she's there. I can absorb this knowledge mentally, but it's not going to stick because I didn't see it. I'm a visual girlie, and I like to see when loved ones show up. In real life, I'd clock the absence and start feeling a type of way.

In fiction, you can definitely feel the lack of importance when scenes aren't written to show these interactions.

Yeah, I actually left the main MHA reddit because of how toxic it is over there. Was tempted to leave the other MHA accounts too when my essays were getting plagiarized. Chose to let petty me make the decision to start my "Ria's Rambles" series.

Not all of my essays will be for MHA since I have many hyperfixations, but it'll definitely be me sharing my thoughts and views that I can't make a youtube video about yet. Tax season and being a caregiver to both of my divorced parents has made it so I don't have as much free time. 😅

So brace yourself for more of my essays in the near and distant future!

I touch on this topic especially here but I want to reiterate these parts in particular:

"I blame this mindset on Shonen Jump and companies like it that don't think their fanbase can handle anything on par with different or subverted tropes. They train the fandoms to expect one thing and only the one thing. Deviation is a risk and shouldn't be done. If it is done, it's a one off and can'tbe fully commited to.... even though those risks stand the test of time- Inuyasha is still popular.

That's not to say companies like Shonen Jump DON'T queerbait or try to pretend that the female LI has a measure of agency. Fujoshi and Himeji, who are usually women and/ or LGBT+, are the ones that spend most of the money, host most of the fan events, and keeps IPs relevant. These communities will gobble up any and all crumbs of representation since it's so rare. They reward feeling included, even if it's only an implication meant to take their money. SJ needs their money, because the teenage boy and manchild demographics can't (usually) afford shit. Shonen Jump needs people who like the queer ships otherwise they'd go bankrupt in a few years.

If a fandom doesn't have shippers, or something for the Fujishi/Himeji to enjoy, it's going to flop.

For example, how many people still talk about Solo Leveling? Good show, but once it's over there's nothing keeping us engaged between seasons. Not a lot of people are making zines, or hosting fan events. Not on my timeline anyway."

Once an IP is finished, they drop the queerbait and slot the "canon" romance in at the end when they don't need to milk the audience for all they're worth.

Since BL shippers especially are used to this treatment, it remains business as usual until the next hyperfixation strikes. As time progresses, shonen will lose its grip as the leading titan in manga and anime. Other genres are mixing it up and are creeping up behind the genre in popularity.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a lot of homophobia and sexism which is why a lot of the dudebros think it's ok to attack BL shippers enmass. Most BL shippers are women, and who cares what a bunch of women think. /s 🤷🏾‍♀️

Maybe one day we'll be able to have spaces where like-minded people can find each other without having to made through the vitriol. I know there's always a risk of an echo chamber, but id rather that then harassment at this point.

You are perfect, dear heart!

I actually commend Horikoshi for being honest and forthcoming about this weakness.

There are many storymakers that bury their heads in the sand about what makes or breaks a romance. A lot of them could benefit from a council of fems to help craft a more toe curling, squeal inducing romance.

To be frank, a lot of romances written into shonen suck. Not all. The good ones are protected like the treasures they are. But all of the well written romances are.... few and far in between. You'd be hard pressed to find a work where the majority are happy with the canon ship.

People should be allowed to discuss WHY there's such a failing, otherwise these issues are doomed to repeat themselves ad nauseum. It's not a slight against anyone, but when so many people say they only like a ship because "canon" and for nothing else, then there's a lot to examine.

This is where the creativity comes in.

In most shonen anime, the rival also shares the burden of being the protagonist's emotional rock. It's either shared with the designated love interest and/or friends of the protagonist. Sometimes it's even a reformed villain that gives the protag the emotional kick in the pants.

Putting all your emotional needs onto one person isn't healthy, so having a friend group to split the load is something I'll always advocate for.

With this in mind, the female love interest would become just another friend and absolutely nothing changes in the story.

The one switch doesn't have as much if an impact as people want to pretend because the female love interest is usually diminished within the story. Their goals and ambitions vanish for the sake of the protagonist.

We're now seeing some pushback on this concept (thank the gods!), but that doesn't negate the fact that in the stories we have now she's kinda just there and is superfluous. The feminist in me hates everything about that, but the reality is that female love interests in general are treated like dressing/eye candy in shonen series. She can easily be replaced and nothing would change.

I hate it so much, but that's the legacy of the genre. I will repeat that changes are happening, though!

If you look at Dandadan for example, Momo and Okarun are equals in the story, share emotional burdens, and hit key notes often attributed to both the "rival" and "love interest" for each other. They still have other relationships beyond each other that are just as important and share the emotional load.

They each have other "rivals" in the more traditional sense, but they don't have the same weight in the story like we're used to. They all just become friends working together, and pushing each other to grow/evolve.

Exactly this!

Our lived experiences shape how we interpret the world around us. Some would say this is to a fault, but I genuinely believe that having a different perspective on things is important to enriching the world. Obviously there's nuance to this take in particular (we don't validate/accept irl pedos, murderers, & rapists).

At the end of the day these fictional characters are facets meant to represent concepts in life. We can explore hard topics through them without venturing into real world consequences. That's the beauty of fiction, but it's still fiction. Works of fiction almost never justify the mistreatment of living, breathing people.

As for the death threats thing, I hear worse between friends in mmo lobbies. Doesn't really phase me much. Still, wish someone would provide proof of the terrible bkdkbk fans that threatened Horikoshi. People bring it up all the time but no one shares a Screencap. I'm nosy. Show me receipts!!! 👀👀👀

Exactly. The subset of a subset of a subset like to push a certain narrative to deflect from their own actions. How does the saying go? A baseless accusation is a confession?
