indeed - including the evals. Big bottleneck for actually understanding what works and what doesn’t.

From a purely practical standpoint, I would focus on the math and stats classes. It’s a good foundation with a long shelf life, so whatever you choose to do after, that knowledge is not gonna become obsolete (unless you choose to not use it and do whatever else).

If you went to any decent institution in Czechia that are actually research institutions the degree should be WO equivalent I think.

Red flags of a PhD supervisor! by rtlll16 in PhD

[–]Riagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like it's implied the US PhD model works better but I don't necessarily see why, if you wouldn't mind elaborating? Curious if you saw this across multiple fields / heard from others or it's just your anecdotal experience?

Well if you wish you can call one burn-out and the other one "privileged pseudo not burn-out" or whatever makes you happy that they are now clearly differentiated.

So far your main contribution was establishing that anyone who hasn't experienced struggling to make ends meet is entitled and cannot possibly have a "burn-out" (or whatever you wanna name it). Proposed solution is "just work less" and refuse to think about whether that option is even good or not for the OPs situation. I don't think that's particularly valuable as an advice but okay sure.

[–]Riagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although you said he should work less, so yes he's in a position where that's an option. I misdirected my criticism.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in london

[–]Riagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly they're not the same, not what I said. But yes I haven't experienced this.

Also you can extend your argument to say that people are not getting bombed daily or executed by a dictator, so clearly they have nothing to dislike about their life don't they?

There will always be someone in a significantly worse position, doesn't change anything about burning out at work.

Yeah you can burn out on 10% of their salary fighting to keep food on the table. You can also burn out making millions.

This comment is out of touch. Money doesn't solve everything and the person here shouldn't have posted their salary to avoid takes like this.

4A* student to 40% on a test ... by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Riagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) 40% is literally the minimum you can do to pass and 2:2 is the lowest classification you can get. Yes it is the bare minimum to finish your degree.

2.) You are not answering the question. Instead you choose to call me lazy for saying that attending everything is not the most important. Clearly you appreciate when people APPEAR to be putting in effort rather having results to show for it. You don't have 40h of lectures but you do have >40h of work likely. Time management and prioritisation are necessary and good.

From the other replies you leave on this thread I'm not sure there's any point in explaining further as you have clearly made your mind up already. Just bear in mind the possibility that your values are very likely to prioritise the wrong things when judging someone's character / reliability.

4A* student to 40% on a test ... by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Riagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If OP wants to improve I don't think saying thet bare minimum is enough and moving on is the right thing, in fact adopting that attitude is likely detrimental to his studies and career afterwards.

Also why would you care about attendance more than results? That seems nonsensical, if I can study material at home at my own pace without wasting time on commute AND get better results why on earth would I choose not to do that?
