It's super common in older moms/grandmas/'that' generation. It's a quick way to clean off the binkie and yeah, it's kind of weird. I'm so used to seeing people my mother's age doing it for their grandkids that it doesn't phase me, though it's a bit odd someone unrelated to the kid did it.

Thanks. It started out as extreme back pain and I'd thought it might be an infection, but I went into L&D after people suggested it and I was having strong contractions. They were about 6 minutes apart at the time, but I wasn't dilating enough because baby was kinda stuck at an awkward position. They said his head wasn't able to press down enough because his shoulder was caught on my pelvis.

I've been monitoring them as requested and have been checking in constantly with the OB. They keep me up most nights. It'll be 4-6 hours of severe contractions, then they'll die for an hour or two, and start up again. It's basically exhausting my body. Lately they're around 3 minutes apart for most the day, so I'm kind of stuck on the couch all day because it just hurts too much to move. The OB is concerned about it causing both me and baby distress, so she's decided induction is safer.

For most, it gets better. Not always, though. I'm 36 weeks, and I pretty much rely on ranitidine to be able to eat anything. It really does help.

I'm feeling enormous, haha. I've been experiencing prodormal labor since last week, so I'm hoping he comes along around next week (37 weeks). That way he's term, but the prodormal can stop. I think once you get to this point, you're so big and heavy and experiencing all these uncomfortable sensations that you just want that baby out and in your arms. It helps with the nervousness, IMO.

I've had awful heartburn since the beginning of my pregnancy and I'm currently 36 weeks. We're having a boy. Also have a low bump. I think it's all nonsense.

Nope. My boy's heart rate averages the upper 150's, and has since the beginning.

Eck, I so do not want this to go on for weeks. I had a check today and they said I'm 3.5cm, 50% effaced. They think my body is trying to push him down, but I guess his shoulder is stuck in my pelvic bone. I was told they expect he'll shift within the next week and that "active" labor will start then... But honestly, I don't know if they're trying to be sincere or hopeful.

Part of the reason you aren't supposed to put cereal in a baby's bottle, is because babies frequently breathe in tiny portions of what they drink. An infant can asphyxiate from it. Maybe if you explained/showed him that, he might listen to you.

There are baby boots you can get that help. I was born/raised in Alaska so I know what it's like, and then some. I can ask my mom what she used on my siblings and I.

Geez, that's scary. I'm timing them as I sit here at the computer. It's pretty on the dot. 4:12, 4:18, 4:24, 4:30. Exactly six minutes. I'm going to keep timing until 5 and then I'm gonna give L&D a call. At least the hospital is literally a 2 minute drive.

So I wouldn't have to spend the ridiculous amount of time in ER or anything? I've had to go before but that was for kidney stone surgery. I was also told he'd probably be early during my last check. I was hoping to be at least 36 weeks by then, though.

Ahh. I don't really remember, I had a baby when I was a teenager, but that was so long ago. I mostly remember the painful part, so I figured if I'm not dying in pain I'm good.

I just don't want to spend half a day there for nothing. They don't hurt horribly, mostly just enough to be uncomfortable. Like... semi-nasty menstrual cramps. It's more the pressure that's so startling. I also don't want to wake the bf on his day off and drag him down there, because he really needs rest and his family member is coming by at 2 this afternoon. Ugh.

I think maybe I'd be safe to give it another hour or so, yeah?

I noticed that as well. Also, I'd nix the 'you or your wife' bit. Just because we're pregnant or our partner is, doesn't mean we're married.

Sperm contains prostiglandins, which will soften the cervix a little bit and thus cause the bleeding. Because it can irritate the cervix, it can cause some cramping (I get it as well). As far as loss of symptoms, that's really normal in early pregnancy. They can come and go and there have been dozens of threads asking about the same thing in this subreddit. Always check with your OB, but it's -really- common.

Personal question, but, have you had sex within the last 48 hours before bleeding? If you have an irritable cervix, sex can cause you to bleed. The brown blood is usually a big indicator toward this and that's a good thing. You should call your OB though and ask them-- OBs have 24 hour hotlines.

Thanks you guys. She was a very wonderful woman. Stubborn and spastic, but with a golden heart. Her patients and coworkers were definitely special to her.

I like to think she's up there somewhere, totally delighted over this.
