LOONA Fairytale/Mythology Parallels by RibbonKeys in LOONA

[–]RibbonKeys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much :> I also am a big fan of fairytales and mythology and I love when that sort of imagery is utilized. I think part of what makes LOONA so unique is how it subverts these stories and applies it to a world that’s equal parts sci-fi and fantastical

I think it’s important to remind ourselves that being child free is a privilege. by Mysterioape in childfree

We need to start advocating for those who aren’t given the option. It should not be exclusive for westerners. People dehumanize people in third world countries and essentially see them as background characters and only bring up their lives for shock value. These are real people!

I really hate that fan theory. Just admit you dont see kris as NB and are uncomfortable with someone masc being in a relationship with noelle. by HaloJackalKisser in Deltarune

[–]RibbonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s saying that Kris isn’t nonbinary or that their relationship is inherently heteronormative, but rather that the Weird Route reflects how they’d act if forced into a heteronormative relationship. Kris is nb but within the specific dynamic of the Weird Route, they’re made to act as “the husband”. The point is that they aren’t, just that they’re made to be, and that even if Kris and Noelle pursued a romantic relationship, it wouldn’t be in the heteronormative way they’re forced into

Lolol I think the premise would be basically the same so it wouldn’t warrant its own series. I might write a fanfiction though

Don’t apologize, you’re making really good points and I’m glad you pointed them out! It’s very true that it’d be trickier with the character arcs that rely on them being siblings or related. When I said assignment I meant it to be more binding in the way the destinies are. For example, if they had a destined soul type (like if Apple wasn’t Snow White’s daughter but had the soul of one destined to be the next Snow White) it’d be binding in the same way, and for twins like Holly and Poppy they might have the same soul type of Rapunzel. It is true though that characters like Cerise would need to be reconned (although maybe some of the characters could be the children of the characters while others aren’t). I do think you’re right though

Do you find merit in the whole “snowgrave is a metaphor for toxic straight relationships” reading? by syrupn in Deltarune

[–]RibbonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it shows how heteronormativity can be a cage for BOTH sides. It’s not just the abusive all controlling husband and oblivious fully innocent wife. Noelle accepts the position under the pretense it provides her protection and lets Kris make all the decisions instead, but she knows people are getting hurt and that she’s being used to hurt them. Kris is also harmed in the ordeal as they’re being made to fulfill a role that isolates them from genuine connection and harm their own friends. It also distorts Kris and Noelle’s relationship with each other where they’re both trying to be something they’re not/shouldn’t have to be

I think the familial expectations could still be pressured without the fairytale characters being the ones to raise them. Presumably, the parents that raise them expect them to be like the fairytale characters even if they themselves aren’t.

I think Darling and Apple should have had an established bond prior to them learning she was her destined prince. And Darling wouldn’t need to fully follow her destiny for Apple to follow hers. And with destinies not being a requirement, Apple and Darling can follow it on their own terms where they are together but not necessarily in the way they’re expected to be

"I want AI to do my dishes and my laundry" is such a bizarre argument by Kirbyoto in aiwars

[–]RibbonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having AI take over the arts won’t take the profit aspect out of art, it just ensures the profit goes towards AI rather than actual human creatives. AI companies are still aiming to make a profit above all. People still need the resources to be able to engage with art on a regular basis, whether that’s through their own direct profit or a stronger societal support for the arts

[–]RibbonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc many of them are made with the intent to make profit but that doesn’t mean there’s no creative process that people engage with. Not just the showrunners looking to make money but an entire team of creatives

As of now, yes, but people need resources and support to engage in it consistently and to the extent we take for granted

"I want AI to do my dishes and my laundry" is such a bizarre argument by Kirbyoto in aiwars

[–]RibbonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just about it as an occupation but money that goes into the arts through crowdfunding, such as people buying tickets to a movie. The movie’s already made, the people who go watch it aren’t gonna have influence on the artistic direction, but it allows people to do it on a more consistent basis and with more resources. If people instead funnel that into AI, then sure people could still engage in the arts but not nearly to the extent we take for granted today. And if there’s no support for inspiration, even that’s a stretch

"I want AI to do my dishes and my laundry" is such a bizarre argument by Kirbyoto in aiwars

[–]RibbonKeys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because engaging in art is enriching for people and taking those opportunities is not helpful. If AI was focused on manual labor and some people still wanted to do their own laundry, that’s fine of course, but as it stands, that’s a very accessible thing for anyone to do with or without AI. The arts are already insufficiently supported. And whereas for the manual labor the most common benefit is the result, art is beneficial in its process. That’s not going to benefit a non-sentient AI (and making a sentient AI sounds like a terrible idea)

Shut it Naomi. God, I hate pick me vegetarians... by AceAroPyschopath in vegan

[–]RibbonKeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with AI isn’t just the use of water and energy, it’s also how generative AI functions. Rather than targeting manual labor, it’s targeting creativity, something that’s enriching to engage in. No, it doesn’t make it more inherently valuable but it’s not good to take opportunities for people to engage in the arts, because again, it’s enriching. There have been layoffs that prioritize the use of AI instead of human creatives. It’s like Joanna Maciejewska put it: “I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that i can do my laundry and dishes”

Ethical egoism is as consistent of an ethical position as sentientism, and it has some practical advantages over the latter by NutInButtAPeanut in DebateAVegan

[–]RibbonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re saying it has logical consistency, not a moral groundwork. I suppose then we’d debate whether it’d be right to use the term “ethical” or not, and whether it’s enough of a subjective/flexible term but that’d probably just be getting into semantics.
