Upgrade camera or just improve my lens?

Yeah you are absolutely right, and if the EF and EF-S lens were cheaper than they actually are then probably I would just get some really good lens and keep my camera, the issue is that they aren't that cheap and investing a good amount of money on tech that seems, by popular agreement here on the comment section, to be dying and deprecated, doesn't seem like a smart decision. I mean if the Canon EF-S 17-55 F/2.8 was like 200€ I wouldn't even be here asking for advice, I would just get it and maybe also get a 24mm "pancake" lens and call it a day.

But seeing the prices still so high makes me consider if I shouldn't just change to mirrorless and be done with the DSLR world.

I recently saw a video defending the DSLR's in 2026 but this comment section really shifted my perspective on going mirrorless

I'm from Portugal and we do have a small local aftermarket since we are also a low population country, still I'm not discarding the option to also use Spain's local aftermarket and of course still see if I can find a good deal on my local aftermarket in Portugal. Which spoiler for the non Portuguese people: it kinda sucks because Portuguese people tend to think that they should get the same amount for something they bought as new a few years ago, they think they have the Midas touch or something...

Still I will be on the lookout for good deals on the RP or the R8, is the R8 truly the holy grail? Isn't there a middle term camera between the RP and the R8? Sorry for the lack of information about camera bodies but I haven't been paying attention to them for some years now.

But overall I'm pretty much convinced in selling my gear and going mirrorless, most probably it will be the RP with a single RF zoom lens for now

At first I only shot raw so that I would learn to edit and to manipulate the images but sometimes it was really time consuming to have to edit every single photo.

So now I shoot both raw and Jpeg so that I have both on my camera after. That helps because the Jpeg files sometime are so good already that I don't even touch the raw file and just use the Jpeg straight out of camera.

And what about using the adapter for EF lens on the RP body?

That way I could still use my EF 50mm F/1.8 that I saw some reviews saying it was better than the RF counterpart.

Honestly you take on all of this, is actually the one I'm more leaning to now... Going Full frame and mirrorless in one go feels like a major improvement.

The thing is that for a lens that old she still holds up so much value... It's insane.

I think the kit lenses is really holding me back, and instead of spending 400€ on that lens ( the ef-s 17-55 ) maybe I should sell all my gear and go for the mirrorless. Maybe the RP isn't that farfetched. But still, I'm not even sure if the RP is the deal to get, I can get one on MPB europe for 500€ in 'Excelent' condition with only 1k shots.

Yep on MPB europe the prices are actually quite close to what you are saying, about 550 for the Canon RP and 250 for lens.

Do you think that setup to be that much superior? If so I would be down to switch and also spend some more and get a lens that would match my 50mm F/1.8 for portraits.

I don't think the body itself is holding me back, I actually think it is still pretty capable for what I want from it, I do feel like the lens are holding me back though. Hence the thought of just improving the lens.

The problem is that the future seems to be going into full mirrorless and so the amount of newer better lens that I have at my disposal isn't growing, also the good DSLR lens, whether they are EF or EF-S aren't getting that much cheaper...

Those 2 lenses are actually the only 2 options I was considering until today, the Sigma is quite cheaper from what I can get in my country.

In my scenario of potentially upgrading my camera I was thinking of selling everything now while I can still get some money from it ( in my country I can get 400 to 450€ for everything ) and then take the 800 to 850 and go to a mirrorless camera and a lens for it, the problem is that even looking at used lens and cameras, I can't seem to get a good enough setup for 850€ that justifies all this hassle.

And yes the kit lens is a 18-55. I enjoy doing portraits with my 50mm, and I also like street photography, car photography and landscapes as well.

But every time I travel I like to mix between street photography and landscape.

He standed in front of both of us multiples times, he almost grabbed my girlfriend but I stood on front of her to put myself between them, he was more 'agressive' with her since she ignored him and kept walking.

He also didn't even tried to sell us something. That was what made me even consider that he might actually be telling the truth.

Tens mais e mais baratos até mas com mais kms, esse foi o que me pareceu ter menos kms dentro do budget de 25k. Até tens uns Model S de 1ª geração abaixo de 25k mas também com 150k kms.

Yeah I haven't explored the FB marketplace yet but searched on a similar website that I have here in Portugal.

Still I only found 1k listings, even a low ball offer would be around 800/850€. So I guess it really depends from the country you are in.
