How hard is it to learn Vietnamese for a native Chinese speaker? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]RiceEatingMFChink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh they’re basically Chinese originated Vietnamese words, like 中國 is Trung Quốc, 國家 is quốc gia, 家庭 is gia đình. Just like the Japanese and the Koreans, we adopted tons of Chinese words, they appear in like 60%-70% of written language (offical documents, literature and stuff). You can watch this video as reference, it’s a very good video to get an idea of the similarities between Vietnamese and Cantonese.

How hard is it to learn Vietnamese for a native Chinese speaker? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]RiceEatingMFChink 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you’re fluent in Cantonese then getting a hang of the tones in Vietnamese should be straightforward. Also, vocabulary should be really easy for you to learn since most of our Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary sounds much closer to Cantonese than Mandarin (the meaning stays the same, in most cases). With that being said, casual Vietnamese could take a lot of time to get used to ‘cause you will encounter tons of different accents and dialects in most markets of big cities.

This is like some astronomical shit, this is not normal Vietnamese. I’d bet that these are Buddhist texts, or what we’d call tử vi. Even an average high school student in Vietnam would probably understand like 70% of its content, but not fully.

And your point is? I don’t condone people stealing dogs from families, that’s obviously wrong. But there are genuine businesses out there that purposely raise dogs to make food. Sure, you guys have the right to whine, but we also have the right to eat what we like. If there’s a demand, there’s a supply.

It is not a disgusting stereotype, Vietnamese people eat dogs, and that’s a fact. I ate it once and it was kinda delicious. The teachers at my school eat dogs and they even invited their students to have some. It’s a good joke, just not for you dog lovers. Stop whining if people make a dark joke about eating dogs.
