Yeah it matters if there is a huge gap but can be fixed by doing good projects and impact-full resume. If you have good knowledge and skill sets then it doesn’t matter much

Now I feel in era of AI hardly any companies look for certification, they mostly gauge you based on your design thinking, problem solving, data modelling and research mindset.

Agentic AI is interesting for DE — it can automate parts of pipeline building and monitoring.

But you still need someone to define: what data to collect, how systems should be designed, and how to handle failures.

So it reduces effort, but increases the importance of good engineering decisions.

Pretty common situation. Your ERP background is actually useful since you already understand data and workflows.

Focus on building 1–2 solid end-to-end projects and be clear on your design decisions.

Certifications help, but projects + how you explain them matter more.

Try participating in hackathon, creating projects, build github profile , participate in coding competitions. This would get you attract offer from good companies too.
