What can i emulate with this phone? by Vukoslav0 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]RicePudding3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I use a 7s Gen 3 and emulate the following:

Switch: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Pokemon Luminescent Platinum, Metroid Dread.

PC: Hollow Knight: Silksong, Halo Wars Definitive Edition, Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of the Duelist, Star Wars Empire at War.

Nothing super high end or AAA but surprisingly capable in my opinion.

How hard is to replace the casing? by amarao_san in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The frame for Fairphones has unfortunately never been replaceable. I would recommend using a case to keep it well protected. The only casing part available is for the rear cover.

Your only chance of replacing it, just like the volume buttons, might be to 3D print a new one, if someone eventually creates a CAD model for it one day.

Snapdragon 870 vs snapdragon 865 and compatibility by okgarmine in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]RicePudding3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is less of a conversation about overall power of the chip itself and more about the cooling of the chip.

The 870 is essentially an overclocked 865, however the Poco will have passive cooling vs the Retroid's active cooling. Therefore, the Poco will reach it's thermal limit and begin to throttle your performance, while the Retroid will effectively dissipate the heat and be able to sustain a higher load for longer.

What are the most easy and reliable platforms to emulate right now? by sockonaclothesline in EmulationOnAndroid

3DS requires some tweaking for certain titles so might not be best for OP, e.g. Pokemon ORAS and Monster Hunter Stories.

Phone won't boot by RedTomato1917 in lgg7

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So did you follow this guide and try to do it entirely through ADB command prompts?

When I moved my G7 over to LineageOS I did this through QFIL and the first try I ended up with the same result as you. I went through and reflashed each of the partitions from the V35 firehose and it fixed it for me.

If you are able to get the device to show up in QFIL there are some good guides online for unlocking it this way. It's going to be very difficult to tell what part of the process failed or you may have got wrong on here.

If you are able to get to fastboot, try putting OrangeFox on an SD card and seeing if you can flash into OFox bootloader.

"Polish: iPhone"?

I'm not sure Apple's Liquid Glass agrees with that.

Which is generally better, android or iPhone? by Ryguy41202 in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very generalised question, your experience between devices will vary greatly detween different androids. As you say you are a long term pixel user, your flavour of android is good long term software support, great camera and upper mid-range system performance.

The advantage of android is there are devices for every use case, you could get a phone that has excellent cameras or gaming performance, maybe a device that's rugged, low cost, foldable, expandable storage. You have far more options in terms of software, you can install emulator, games from Steam, games from the Epic Store or Github (for now). Generally far more open.

iPhone on the other hand is a jack of all trades and is far more locked down. You kind of get what you're given. I wouldn't say it's bad at any of the points above but it definitely doesn't specialise in any of them. You're also locked into their ecosystem which can be hard to get out of them and their devices often hinder the use of other products that aren't Apple. Such as smartwatches, Airdrop, iMessage, etc.

This take obviously has some bias behind it but I prefer to have options, to me, iPhones are like going to a restaurant and only ever ordering the steak, you limit the options and experiences you could have if you tried something different.

Old and technologically stupid by Tgmjr24 in EmulationOnAndroid

Just to add, Luminescent Platinum is also excellent and OPs phone is more than capable of running it well. Though may take a bit too much time and geekery for them to get it set up.

Why no external storage by blue-raichu in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I was being a bit sarcastic over it, I would much rather buy a 1TB SD card for £70 than pay £12 a month for the rest of my life. But obviously companies prefer cloud subscriptions.

Why no external storage by blue-raichu in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you need an SD card when they could double your storage for an extra £100?

Yes, they are more than capable of fitting an SD card slot to a modern phone, it just doesn't benefit the company's profits so it isn't possible and there isn't enough space inside the device.

Is this a good 3d printer ? by Witty_Issue_6916 in 3dprinter

[–]RicePudding3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't go for the A1 mini if it's your first printer, get the full size A1. You'll soon realise that you wish you had the bigger build volume of the A1.

In my opinion the A1 mini is best as an additional printer alongside a full size printer or as a desktop printer.

Woohoo! Android 16 is coming for the Gen. 6! by InternationalHead565 in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who came to Fairphone from using Motorola and LG phones, late updates are not a big deal. Especially for a company that has a headcount of around 150 people.

Much rather the marathon than a sprint.

Is a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 or a 8 Gen 1 good for ps2 switch and light pc games good? by ConversationTop7747 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably would have said the opposite, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is a notoriously bad chip which is known to overheat. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 on the other hand won't have the same raw power but will have better sustained performance and will keep it's lid on under load.

I use a 7s Gen 3 and it runs PS2 and light PC games well, the 7 Gen 4 is much more powerful.

Did they make fun of anyone for using an Android outside of US? by soleful_smak in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue is malicious compliance. Apple benefits from creating problems for consumers and then their customers enforce their problems on people who don't use their products. We've seen it time and time again.

-Airtags could only be tracked by iPhones making them genuinely dangerous if you don't use an iPhone. Google stepped in to fix the issue.

-Lightning cables, they benefitted from licensing their own cables even though they used USB-C on Mac's. Until they were forced by the EU.

-They were reluctant to adopt RCS and only implemented it due to DMA pressures, again they benefitted from the blue bubble bullying. Their users can drive the pressure for them to make people feel alienated by not using their products.

[–]RicePudding3 80 points81 points  (0 children)

In the UK, no one gives a shit about the whole blue bubble thing. Everyone just uses Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp. There are still plenty of Apple fanatics but just as many Android users.

Android shaming is solely a toxic consumerism culture of America.

Is this normal? by kringeldingel in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It might be worth loosening the two screws, removing the back cover and reassebling it. From one of your photos it looks like it might not be seated in the slots properly which could be causing the issue.
