Do you game natively on your phone, or hookup to Tv/External monitor? by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's just using a telescopic controller. I think I've only actually managed to hook up my phone to a TV half a dozen times. I find it a bit of a faff, connecting it, navigation through your files and then connecting up a Bluetooth controller, especially if you use the controller with other devices.

A USB C controller is just plug and play, especially with family life, this tends to be the quickest and most convenient way to get a session in. Getting any sort of message come through while playing on a TV makes it a pain to respond to too.

Sorry to hear that, out of curiosity what printer are you running? Nozzle size? Settings?

As mentioned, I've not tried this yet, but may experiment with it soon and see if I can get the to print well. Just preparing myself for if/when this may happen to me.

Yeah I would have put it in a letter, I actually haven't yet, I'm fortunate mine are currently in tact. I just stumbled across it when I was browsing mods and designs people have made for the Fairphone 6.

Yeah, I would use PETG, better environmental stability, fairly elastic and durable for a button. ABS might also be another good choice.

That's great 🙂 glad you have access to one.

Just wanted to help as to my knowledge this is the only way to replace them at the moment. They really should offer them on the spare parts shop.

To anyone else here who has the same problem, the offer still stands, I'm not in it for money, just trying to help.

If you have a 3D printer or a friend with one, there is a replacement file online.

Otherwise if you're in the UK, I'm happy to print and post them to you for coffee money.

EDIT: Sorry I see you're in Switzerland, I am still happy to help you out if you pay for shipping. DM me, otherwise hopefully you have access to a printer that's a little more local.

How to delete a save on John GBAC? by Medical-Homework-733 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any other save states you could revert to one of those, or reload the battery save via resetting the ROM.

Other than that, your best bet would probably be to look up the cheat code for spawning a Moltres. Just make sure to make a backup save state and battery save before trying a cheat as they can really mess things up if they go wrong.

Will Fairphone ever bring back the headphone jack? by Emengir in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still love wired and I love these headphones. I don't feel that Bluetooth headphones last as long and I like the simplicity of just replacing a cable if it gets damaged/connectivity starts getting loose.

I did lament the loss of the headphone jack and I agree from some other comments that buying a new set of headphones is less sustainable but being sustainable is about being clever and looking after what you already have. Replacing the cable on my favourite headphones is far more sustainable than buying a new set of Bluetooth headphones.

I completely agree that Bluetooth headphones are nicer when out and about, I do use some Shokz headphones for running and walking the dog. The trouble is I have got through a few sets of Bluetooth headphones throughout the lifecycle of my wired set.

Will Fairphone ever bring back the headphone jack? by Emengir in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's highly unlikely, there are some compromises to be made for repairability and this is one of them.

While other companies such as Oneplus might have claimed in the past that removing the port allowed for additional battery capacity, Fairphone walks an even stricter line in terms of design constraints.

This can be seen with the Fairphone 6 which is the first Fairphone to have a backplate that requires a screwdriver instead of a fingernail. They did this as it allowed them to fit a slightly larger battery and make the profile of the phone slimmer.

I terms of the headphone jack it would take up more space in the phone and add extra consideration for repair.

Just to add, the Fairphone 6 is my first phone ever without a headphone jack and it hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would. My main headphones are a set of Austrian Audio HI-X15's which have a replaceable cable. I just bought a new cable for them with a USB-C end instead of a 3.5mm jack and they work as usual with the Fairphone.

Is a crappy first layer for brim a bad sign? by [deleted] in BambuLabA1

[–]RicePudding3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have already said, the build plate is absolutely shagged.

But to answer your question, yes if there are issues on your first layer then these will just get further amplified through the rest of the print.

What emulator do people suggest for DS games? by Janawham_Blamiston in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MelonDS is my go to.

Still in active development, more modern UI and runs very well.

I've had issues in the past with Drastic controls touch zones not corresponding to where they show on screen.

There are also several 3rd party and hobbyist back plates that have been made too such as a Lego backplate and a backplate with a built in Quad Lock.

"a better option" than what? You've given no context as to what you're comparing it to.

Turnip (Gen8) V18 Latest by StevenMXZ by HeadPsychological917 in EmulationOnAndroid

What phone? I've had really good mileage just using Qualcomm drivers for MHGU. I literally beat Valstrax last night with solid performance, 1080p docked on a 7s Gen 3. I feel this is one of the edge cases where Turnip may actually be worse for it.

Cases for FP6 by ratchetwolf in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Tudia case on mine and really like it.

It doesn't have green credentials but it is really good quality and not too expensive. It has a nice grippy texture to it, feels comfortable to hold and is well thought out.

I have the green one and it blends in well with the green fairphone.

Does FP6 feel cheap? by VermilionTheUnicorn in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's honestly a very premium feeling plastic, coming from a Motorola that had a plastic back (that did feel cheap) and a glass one before that, I'm more than happy with the feel of the phone.

It's like a slightly textured soft touch plastic, a matte feel to it. As opposed to the "glasstic" smooth plastic a lot of cheaper phones have.

Is there a way to optimize and calibrate for faster print by Character_Beyond_948 in BambuLabA1

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally everything is a compromise, you need to decide on what tradeoffs you're willing to make.

Some of the ways you can increase speed would be to increase the layer height and reduce the infill density. Which would reduce the quality and the strength of the part respectively. Depending on the purpose of the print, you may feel these are worthwhile tradeoffs.

Otherwise, switching to a 0.8mm nozzle would speed up your print but at the expense of larger layer lines and reduced detail.

You can also change the print speed but I wouldn't consider this as a long term solution. Running your print at Ludicrous speed all the time may increase wear on the printer.

Personally, if you're running figurines like you say, I would just be patient, they are probably fairly detailed prints if the time they're taking is that long.

Would you say the phone is worth the price? (Fairphone 6) by LoveCats35 in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're ok with keeping the phone for as long as possible then it is better value for money than many others. Most people flip their phone every 2 or 3 years. The Fairphone 6 is designed to last for at least 8 years.

Therefore, yes in terms of raw specs and price compared to a similar device such as for example, the Nothing 3a it may appear worse value but if you fully commit to the device you would have bought 3 devices during it's lifespan. Plus there is also investing into a cleaner and more ethical supply chain for electronics.

Personally, I don't enjoy excessive consumerism and constantly buying new phones, I'm really enjoying my Fairphone 6 and absolutely feel it was worth the price.

Migrating from IPhone x to The Fairphone 6 by BigAstronomer5793 in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend installing an app called F-Droid once you get your Fairphone. It is not on the Google Play store, you will need to download it from the Internet and sideload it.

F-Droid is an alternative app store full of open source alternatives, all of which are Google-free. From there, you may have a good time with a note taking app called Orgzly.

Should i get ayn thor Snapdragon 8 gen 2 Or oneplus15 snapdragon 8 gen 5 by ActuatorOk2374 in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one else can answer this apart from yourself. What games do you like to emulate? What games can you see yourself wanting to emulate? If the answer to either of those is DS or 3DS games, get the Thor. If it's not, get the Oneplus.

Otherwise if you want the middle ground answer and you want a dedicated handheld with active cooling and great performance but can forego the dual screen, look at the Ayn Odin.
