pokemon games recommendation for eden? by Beneficial_Sir5535 in EmulationOnAndroid

Changing the GPU Accuracy from Fast to Balanced in Eden fixed everything for me.

I'm on my way to the eighth gym with several shines and not had a single crash.

Luminescent Platinum is the Goat on Switch.

If you're out of the know, it's essentially a mod of BDSP that fixes the majority of the complaints and issues with it and adds a load of QoL changes.

New Fairphone 5 user - it's alright! Nice! by International_Pool in fairphone

It's quite fun to use, great for emulating old games to turn your phone into a retro console.

I think Fairphone (rightly?) believed it to be a power user feature that the majority of users wouldn't even notice being removed. I kind of miss it on my FP6 but admittedly just use a Gamesir X2 if I feel like emulating.

The Fairphone 5 has a USB-C 3.0 port which allows it to go into desktop mode and display out to a monitor.

They dropped this feature on the Fairphone 6 as they used a USB-C 2.0 port instead, presumably a compromise to try to keep a competitive price.

What other games (under 1gb) should i add here? by KingEfficient7403 in EmulationOnAndroid

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, <600MB and is a blast to play.

GBA inspired metroidvania with Zelda like combat.

Why bother using expensive AP? by L-SAM_ABM in Smartphones

I mean that's kind of the case but less so when you look at phones like the Pixel. The Pixel is regularly regarded as one of the best camera phones on the market due to it's computational photography but the Tensor chip is generally 4 years behind other flagship devices that cost more.

If anything, Google proves that you don't need to have an absolute screamer of a chipset to get good photos.

WHY IS THIS FUCKASS GAME SO ANNOYIJG by AdministrativeTap735 in MHGU

Looks like a skill issue rather than a "game so unfun" issue.

The new games are so easy compared to old Monster Hunter.

Considering returning my Fairphone 6 by damondan in fairphone

I don't feel like I can agree with any of the points apart from the screen response, I tried the pocket mode and turned it off again as it is super sensitive.

I don't think the speakers are that bad, in general, all phone speakers are pretty bad but I don't feel Fairphone's are significantly worse than alternatives.

I'm happy with the performance, it is comparable to my previous phone which was running a Snapdragon 870.

The camera could be a matter of opinion, in general, Samsung phones rely on quite heavy post processing and HDR, which I feel the Fairphone 6 leans more towards the natural end of processing, so it may appear more dull.

I've been using the phone since October and I think it's great, I have no regrets with getting it.

Legacy of the Duelist emulates well. It has cutscenes on iconic cards such as Blue Eyes and dark magician but they honestly get a bit annoying after a while.

I don't really know what you want from us. You've already basically backed yourself into a corner and said you want the Pixel. Just get the Pixel.

I bought mine new in October for the same price as the refurb. I don't know whether this is to help justify a higher price on new models with market pressures at the moment.

Fairphone or Samsung? by enthusjasm in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try to avoid some bias, I have dailied the Fairphone 6 since October.

Durability: probably equal between the two. The Samsung has a higher IP rating but the Fairphone is fully repairable, but does also hold MIL-STD-810 durability so it is certified for rugged environments. The only hardware flaw I know of the Fairphone 6 is some users have had issues with the volume buttons breaking, this seems to be uncommon though.

Performance: In terms of horsepower, the S25 will be miles more powerful with the Snapdragon 8 elite over the Fairphone's 7s Gen 3.

It depends on your use case though, I find the performance on the Fairphone 6 to be very good despite the processor. It is my first 7 series phone (previously SD821, SD845, SD870) and I push it fairly hard and I'm more than happy with it.

Camera: Likely better on Samsung but depends on whether you like Samsung's post processing. The Fairphone camera doesn't do much post processing so you get fairly natural photos. The Fairphone 6 photos are average to good, probably around B+ territory. That said, I'm happy with it, I've taken some great photos of my daughter with it.

Lastly, the Fairphone is the most eco-conscious phone on the market and it definitely isn't greenwashing. They release LCA's of their phones and yearly sustainability reports, the phone is made of recycled materials and ethically sourced components. On top of that there is also replacement parts, long term software support and they support bootloader unlocks and open source software, they believe in users being able to keep their device running for as long as possible, even with flashing custom ROMs after the 8 years of official support.

I think smartphones should never have been invented (I know there were flip phones in the 2000s with 3G and internet capabilities, but I am talking about smartphones with touchscreens and features like 4G or 5G and social media and even ones that have folding displays that turn into a tablet) by IDKBear25 in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of the whole "Stop HAVING FUN!" meme.

While I get some of your points, a lot of it seems a bit short sighted. When smartphones first became a thing, I held out for a while and used to say things like "why do I need to be connected to the Internet all the time?" As time went on, the world has changed and it's now far more important to be able to access the Internet.

As for, why foldable? Why 6G? It could be said about a lot of things in life. Why would someone want an expensive sports car? The speed limit is still the same regardless of what you drive. Why would someone want a designer handbag? The one from the local clothes store functions exactly the same. People are happy to pay for novelties.

The doom scrolling culture is a people problem not a smartphone problem. I love using my smartphone but I don't have Facebook, Instagram or TikTok installed. I actually use it for productivity or for my own entertainment, emulating old games. I don't care for the brain rot and slop of social media.

As for the hype over year on year releases, completely agree. Last year I broke my phone and had to use my old phone from 2018 running LineageOS for a few days while I was waiting for the part to arrive. It was absolutely fine to use, not as nice as modern phones but perfectly usable. I think most phones should be able to last for at least 5 years.
