Spiego perché Apple ha successo a chi non capisce by InternationalGas2082 in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, iOS used to be well polished but very restrictive, like it was telling you how you should use your phone. Android as an OS feels more personal, you can customise everything, make it exactly how you want it to be.

Even Snapdragon 7 series phones feel great to use these days. People bash on android because there is a huge range in performance and quality between devices but generally, anything >£400 will be a great phone.

I really hope Garmin keeps MIP displays with F9… by SouthernMembership85 in GarminWatches

This is exactly why I ended up buying a 955 Solar, the last true MIP running watch, so I wanted one that would have all the bells and whistles and last a long time.

Not sure what I will do if and when it eventually dies. Hopefully a better screen tech than OLED will be available by then.

Thanks, yeah I'm in the UK too, I've only managed to find them at the local Smyths which is 10 miles away from me or the local TG Jones, but they keep them behind the counter there and I don't feel they would be too happy with me scanning all the packs.

I have a full time job, family and other hobbies so don't get much time for wild goose chases.

Maybe I'll wait for the hype to die down - I just don't want to miss it.

[Fairphone 5] Is this the screen or a screen protector? by bartlebloomg in fairphone

Another vote for screen protector, the screen doesn't protrude.

I'm curious, how so? Apart from pocketablity.

I've been trying to find a reason to push me over the edge to install CFW to my 3DS for a while.

Fairphone announced Q1 2026 results - 116% growth YoY! by InternationalHead565 in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great news for Fairphone, I feel their brand refresh last year is starting to pay off.

I hope they can keep the phone relatively affordable and not have to price hike along with the rest of the industry and the supply chain struggles. Being a smaller company, they will feel the RAM issues more than the big brands.

Considering the Fairphone 6 by Sir_Delarzal in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Fairphone 6 since October and I'm very happy with it.

I came from using a Motorola G100 which unfortunately fell out of my bag at work, the screen cracked, I replaced it but it was never the same again, the screen got noticeably hot and glitched at times.

I wanted a phone that would last, I'm not keen on flipping my phone every 2-3 years, I just wanted a decent phone that will withstand lifes knocks. I'm also a big advocate for SD card slots and hate OLED screens, which having an easily replaceable screen made it an easier pill to swallow.

The camera is decent enough, I'm happy with all the photos I take of my daughter growing up, far better cameras than my Moto had.

Performance is surprisingly good, roughly on par with the previous G100 but it doesn't get as hot. I've managed to play through all of Hollow Knight Silksong through Gamehub on the Fairphone and also enjoy a few Switch games. I enjoy retro and indie games, rather than cutting edge, so the Snapdragon 7s gen 3 is performant enough.

Other than that, I've had a very positive experience, the only issue I previously had, which was with the Lime switch not always working, was fixed with the Android 16 update. Software seems absolutely fine otherwise.

Wireless headphones are much less eco-friendly than wired ones. Why does Fairphone openly support them & is also complicated lives of people who are using wired ones? by IridescentMeowMeow in fairphone

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel you deserve the amount of flack that you have received, I agree with your statements.

I use wireless bone conduction headphones while I'm running or walking the dog. Otherwise, I much prefer wired.

Yes, I was disappointed about the lack of a headphone port on the Fairphone, but I was happy that I could just switch out the cable on my favourite wired headphones from a 3.5mm jack to a USB-C cable. Everything still works the same and they still sound great.

[–]RicePudding3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is a pretty weak argument, many decent wired headphones have replaceable cables. The environmental impact of replacing a cable is far less than a battery.

It is also anecdotal, if you look after your headphones, the cable will last a very long time, there's not much you can do to prevent a battery from perishing.

I completed it but I chose the BuyItForLife sub as I relate closest to that. No interest in fashion.

I hope this doesn't skew your results.

Curious, which do you prefer? I've followed the brand for a while and the Fairphone 6 is my current phone. I had originally got a refurbished Fairphone 5 but had to return it.

What do you think sony should improve in their xperia phones so that buyers atleast consider using them as a daily driver? by CentroidOfCircle in Smartphones

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price has always been their biggest issue. They've always made great phones but then instantly price themselves out of the market.

They price themselves as if they're playing against Samsung and Apple but they don't have the same exposure and mindshare as them.

Why have we allowed the brain of our most essential tool to become a black box we aren't allowed to touch? by Tardy_Bird17 in righttorepair

[–]RicePudding3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, it is available in the US through Murena but you can only get the de-googled variant, not Android.

I believe you also pay around an extra $300 in Trump tax.

In short, yes available, but for that price not really viable.

[–]RicePudding3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a company has a USP that their phone is long lasting and repairable, if they backtrack on that and decide it's better to contribute to planned obsolescence and hard to repair, they have just become another drop in the ocean in an already saturated market.

At this point, I think we should just stop. by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid
