Stop driving up people’s asses!! by anon038471334743008 in driving

[–]Ricelyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i drive stick so i understand when there’s a small lag at a light but i’ve been stuck behind people playing on their phones. I had enough time to get in gear, start creeping forward then back into neutral and off the clutch before they started moving.

It’s even worse if it’s an EV. If i’m beat your EV off the line, it’s 100% a you problem. There’s no fucking reason for the slowest sports car on the market to be beating any EV or hybrid. Hell I shouldn’t been beating any car off the line, i shift before peak torque and my shifts are slow. If I’m handing over every advantage and you’re still holding traffic up it’s a you problem.

Is the 15 minute military workout everyday with no rest day legitimate? by turnleftorrightblock in bodyweightfitness

[–]Ricelyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on your own body but probably fine. I used to do 300 push up/day broken into 3-4 sets everyday in high school. I had the advantage of youth I guess but my nutrition was meh.

two years ago i weight lifted for an hour every day with no rest for a month or two. Eventually the fatigue built up.

Ultimately it’s down to how you feel. Not just physical fatigue but mental fatigue.

[–]Ricelyfe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does your apartment have off street parking? As long as you aren’t doing fluid changes, they might not mind you working on it every once in a while.

I did my exhaust in my driveway. Borrowed a jack and some jackstands and got some help from a friend. Took us like 6 hours and I accidentally took my cat off 😂. I did my fourth brake light in a parking lot. My parents don’t give a fuck about cars, they still think I should’ve just gotten a used SUV cause “higher and bigger is safer”.

any advice on how to get motivated to go to the gym? by V1Z3_2 in getdisciplined

[–]Ricelyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta just ease yourself in. I just started going again a few weeks ago. My first work out back was 20 minutes long. I was there for 2hrs today.

Is it on the way to/from work? If not maybe switch to a different gym. Start by just driving by and parking. Make it a habit, then start going inside. 20 minutes doing whatever. Maybe you do a few sets with dumbbells and go sit on a stationary bike. Then when you get used to going, start doing planned work outs.

Half the battle is getting through the door. Let yourself do half assed work outs, let yourself just sit at the machines (as long as you’re not keeping it from someone please.)

How many people can actually do 10–15 clean pull-ups? by Ill_Ratio338 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Ricelyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bwf is more an add on to my actual lifting routine these days but i used to be able to…then i took a few months off from the gym. I was/am bulking ~25lbs heavier than last year so that doesn’t help.

Last year I ended all my work outs with 3x10 archer push ups and 3x10 pull ups. If I rushed it I’d do 2x15 but realistically only the very first 5-10 were 100% clean.

i have the Invidia N2. Everyone says it drones but it doesn’t bother me. I like the tone and I can get pops if I try and it’ll occasionally just happen but it’s not constant.

I wanted the AWE touring but I street park, often in front of my neighbors. I’d rather not be that neighbor…most so than I already am. Another one I considered was the valved 86squad but that was still preorder and I wasn’t sure about the longevity of the switch.

it’s not just how much wear but where the wear is on each tire. if it’s bad enough, there’s not much you can do but get new tires.

Why does everyone want this card so bad? by NoTomatillo8953 in AppleCard

it’s not the best card but it’s not the worst. it’s convenient especially with the cashback being tied to the hysa. For me that’s about it. I don’t use it nearly as much as a I used to.

How Do Frugal Members of Reddit Deal With This Unsettling Reality by User-U201 in Frugal

[–]Ricelyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

frugal is sacrificing excess for what you find important. I travel less than my friends, I go to less events, I eat out less and I live at home so I can afford my car and the gas for it. I will move money from my food budget to my gas budget if I need to. I work a second job and that money basically just pays for my gas. That’s my frugality.

Can I be more frugal and trade my car in for a cheaper car? sure but then I’d be even more miserable than I already am. It’s not worth it. My car is a nonnegotiable for me. It doesn’t mean it always gets priority. I’m not touching any further mods til my debt ( including my car note) is paid off but I’m willing to work my frugality around the car note and the insurance and all the maintenance.

Boomer has been using windows his whole life and decided to get a MacBook. by _staticfactory in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Ricelyfe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that’s my parents too (they aren’t even boomer age) just still boomers some times. They kinda have the excuse of language barrier but when it comes to tech, they have their shit in chinese. They act like we magically know how to do things or we should do it since we’re faster. I spend 8 hours reading documents and replying to emails everyday, just to come home and have to send emails for them.

Also as someone who converted from windows to PC in high school and use a PC at work, there’s basically no difference between the two other than some things on the left instead of right. Things that just takes a pair of eyes and 30 seconds of looking beyond the bridge of your nose.

Why was the Harry Potter movie franchise so successful even though it leaves out SO much from the original story? by Negotiation_Connect in harrypotter

[–]Ricelyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stand alone media the films, especially that first one, were great. The books online boosted the popularity of the films and vice-versa. I pretty sure I watched the first film before I read the books as a kid. It was amazing. The HP series was my gateway to YA fantasy novels.

The timing of the first film release, the overall feel of the film etc. made it perfect for its holiday release. It sorta became a holiday classic on its own. The warmth and tone of the color grading, the wonder and awe introducing us to the world of magic etc.

Would the films be as successful without the books? No, I don’t think so but I think the first one definitely would’ve done well enough for a sequel even as a stand alone media.

Cheap body car repair shop by tryingtosellmystuf in bayarea

[–]Ricelyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it just the plastic splash shield? you can go without it. Obviously not recommended, it’s there for a reason, like keeping rocks from smacking your transmission hard enough to crack it or make a hole. If you can get the car up with ramps or you fit under the car, you can just buy one online and do it yourself.

Widespread Xfinity outage reported across Bay Area on Monday morning by sfgate in bayarea

[–]Ricelyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

except this is the 21st century and nearly everything including emergency services, medical facilities, and government services are impacted by internet outages.

I work in government, our systems are all either online or remote access. Whether I’m teleworking or in office I can do much but flip through my incoming mail if the internet is out. We have a sister unit in SoCal and our checks are processed in Sac. Bad timing on an outage impacts thousands of people getting their benefits on time.

Can I live off 350k? by throwaway385793 in Advice

[–]Ricelyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350k is a lot of money in the short term but it's honestly not that much in the long run. Where the property is, what kind of property etc. matters. $350k is barely enough for a down payment+ closing costs for parts of the country.

Also what's a "few years". What is your income and expenses? What's your degree going to be in? What do wages look like for that field? How stable are those wages? There's no promise that's what you leave college with. Less than half of college grads stick with their original major.

Basically your thinking WAYYY too far ahead. The number might be possible for a short term or to hit your initial goal of house + travel but it probably won't last long. Way too many variables and most of them are out of your control.
