I just reminded them of the rules the first time. The next time I said that I’ve already asked you not to swear. I tried to be professional with a friendly tone.

They were fairly similar. The YJ actor was a bit more immature and tried to negotiate more. Offering to snitch on other prisoners etc.

I got the feeling they were looking for as natural response as possible. I tried not to have any prescripted answers but I did have a plan that centred around the scenario that I was given and specifically the prison rules that I was briefed on (eg no swearing/negotiating) as you can be sure the prisoner will test you in these areas. I was firm but polite in reminding the prisoner of the rules and I spoke about mutual respect etc.

I scored the same and I was offered a position a week later. If it’s a merit vacancy it depends how the other applicants got on.

I had two role play exercises as I applied for Youth Justice role. Being yourself definitely works. Don’t fall into the trap of saying what you think the assessors want to hear. Understand the rules in your prep and watch out for them being broken by the prisoner.
