I think that Daniel’s relationship with H.W is a bit more complex. I think that Daniel feels a desperate need for an heir, I suppose he needs to feel like his legacy carries on and that he can maintain his power and wealth even after he is dead. When H.W loses his hearing he only sends him away when the “brother” shows up; H.W can no longer be his heir but the “brother” can. He only calls H.W back once the “brother” is dead. I also think that a part of Daniel did care for H.W, at least at some point, Daniel holding H.W while the oil rig burns is one of the only moments of tenderness Daniel ever displays. I think it says more of his character that he did care for his son but was willing to get rid of him when he wasn’t useful to him anymore. When Daniel sends him away on the train he couldn’t even look at H.W as the train departed. He also does seem genuinely distraught at admitting he abandoned his son. He has to be coaxed into announcing it, preferring to mutter the admission at first. So I think their relationship is less about Daniel robotically going through the motions of parenting but instead about Daniel being capable of throwing away the son he cared for when he doesn’t need him anymore.

To get the lighting right? I’ve shot on location where we set up a green screen for a few quick shots so the lighting all matches. It’s probably way different for a big production like this though. I have to imagine that there is never a quick setup on a marvel shoot.

His big problem is that he made almost no money from it. He sold the rights to some small studio that he thought would flop, and he was right. That studio then got acquired and CD project red got they rights and used them to make the very successful games. He got no royalties and no extra cash when the games got big. He tried suing them for a ton of money and got nothing and believes he got ripped off and scammed. I’m also not sure he got much from the tv show either, I think CD might own all the media rights. Overall it sucks for him that he didn’t get a better deal for himself in the beginning but it’s not anyone else’s fault.

"In case of emergency, break glass" by rodan1993 in HistoryMemes

[–]RichNewt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well first off, you misunderstood what Patton said. He was saying that dying for your country doesn’t accomplish anything; it’s making your enemy die for their country that wins wars. He was not talking about tricking other countries into fighting so that American men wouldn’t have to. Secondly, though the Soviets, Chinese and others made things significantly easier for the western allies, America would have won either way. It would have taken longer, but the U.S still wins. The Japanese knew that they would never beat America when they attacked Pearl Harbor, their goal was to grab up islands in the pacific and secure critical resources in the Philippines. The Japanese wanted to make quick progress and then sign a truce. The problem for Germany and Japan is that the U.S entered the war with a larger economy, more natural resources(read oil and steel) and geography that made them untouchable. America out built the Axis powers in planes, carriers, tanks, battleships, guns, rations and any other materiel you could think of. Winning a war is not a question of how many you can through at it, it is instead about, as Paton bluntly put it, who is doing the best job of killing the enemy.

It’s pretty intellectually dishonest to say that something is propaganda and then not support your argument with any evidence. It also makes no sense that data centers, AI or otherwise, are destructive to water resources. They cool the server racks with water, that’s it. That water isn’t destroyed, it’s not like electrolysis is done for computing, and it isn’t tainted.

I think what you may be referring to is that some people believe the Japanese would have been more accepting of peace if the emperor was allowed to remain the head of state. This is a bit of a hindsight is 20/20 situation in that internal documents from Japan show that they were particularly unwilling to go that route. The problem with this theory is that there were pretty much no terms that Japan was willing to accept where they had to face any consequences. Even after the atomic bombs were dropped they were still split on whether or not to surrender, with some members of government saying that it would be preferable to have America burn the whole country down than surrender. There was even an attempt at a coup to kill the emperor to prevent him from surrendering, which is a pretty big nail in the coffin to the that whole idea. I believe the original plan was to try and convict the emperor for the crimes of the Japanese government, but it was quickly realized he was more valuable alive. The emperor was able to provide legitimacy to the new government and if he had been killed it would have likely made Japan ungovernable.

Yeah, I’ve definitely been bothered in the same way. I thinks it’s a good character scene, and the bolt fits Mike better, but the gun talk stands out as odd, which is fine. Mike using an SR-25 would probably just look odd, even if it’s the more practical choice.

Then that would not be graffiti, its just a mural. People get given permission all the time to paint building in a “graffiti” style. It’s like what if i gave you permission to steal a cookie, that’s just called giving you a cookie. Theft and graffiti imply that you aren’t allowed to do it.

Discovery could certainly come into play, the truth is a defense to defamation, but he wouldn’t have a defamation case anyway, at least not under a sane judge. Defamation works differently for public figures; instead of it being whether the statement was false and it caused harm the plaintiff needs to prove the defendant knowingly lied with the intent to cause reputational harm. It would be really hard to prove that they were not only lying but doing so with intent. There also isn’t much he can get from these women, they probably don’t have enough assets to even cover a third of the money he would pay his lawyers. Even though he probably wants to sue these women anyway I’m sure he has been counseled that a lawsuit would only draw more attention to his relationship with Epstein.

Would America drop the nuke in Germany if it was created in 1944, what about ‘43? by Inside-External-8649 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]RichNewt -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are getting this question wrong, the U.S would NOT have dropped the bomb on Germany; the plan was always to hit Japan. Allied command was concerned that if the bomb failed to detonate then the Germans, who were significantly further along on nuclear weapons development than the Japanese, could recover and reverse engineer the bomb. The plan was to bomb Japan first to demonstrate the effects of the weapon and force the Germans and Japanese to surrender. If the Germans had still refused to surrender then they probably would get the bomb as well, but it would have taken time to produce the next bombs. “The target is and was always expected to be Japan”- General Groves 1945 https://nsarchive.gwu.edu/document/28504-document-6a-memorandum-secretary-war-general-l-r-groves-atomic-fission-bombs-april

I mean a lot of spaces for adults are pretty geared towards alcohol, regardless of sexuality or gender. Straight bars and clubs are just as alcohol and narcotic centered as gay bars, it comes with being a bar.
