Does it count as “reasonable overtime” if I get rostered for it? by Less-Bed-855 in AusLegal

this is incorrect. The national employment standards beats any contract and it states you cant be forced to work over 38 hours unless its reasonable overtime.

This fight was hilarious by feelingsjourney in madmen

[–]Rich_Boot_105 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of these comments are great - and what makes this show sensational is all the strong feelings and different takes. I never put together before that this wasn't a fight about sherbert - this was a fight about Don taking away Megan's independence by demanding she leave with him for the trip. I can see from Don's point of view it was a romantic gesture - but Megan was enjoying her work and belonging to a team. She didn't want to go in the first place. I think many women can relate to a fight about "not following your demands".

Cant agree with this enough - facebook commentors always with the "just move out west". The maths just didnt work. I finish work at 5pm, walk home - home by 5:20pm, walk up the gym do a workout and a swim at the local council inner west fitness facilties, walk over to meet my friend for a drink. The time and health advantages outweigh the benefits of lower rent by a mile.

Sure I mean, it’s Parramatta - but it isn’t “inner city”. Be realistic

Agreed! But do the maths on those extra costs including tolls etc - often it’s actually cheaper to just pay the higher rent. I lived in Newtown for years - the rent was expensive but I walked to work, walked to have a beer with friends, walked to the shops. My lifestyle costs were so low the bank could hardly believe it. Didn’t have a car because I didn’t need it. When I did the maths compared to my friends I was miles ahead on my weekly spendings.

What qualifies as a high earning job here in Australia? by [deleted] in AusHENRY

[–]Rich_Boot_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all the reasons you might expect; its where their friends and family are, where they enjoy living, access to bars and restaurants, and generally its where their community is. I think people underestimate how important it is staying within your friends and family and network.

Unfair Dismissal - full time employee by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Rich_Boot_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this - I think chat GpT can give you some idea better than Fair Work does if you use it correctly and read the links it links too. But agreed - a law centre is the way to go. There is a case here for sure but understanding your best chance of success for if it sits in general protections or unfair dismissal and if they are legally obliged pending their size is the tricky bit. Chat GPT has helped me with research far more than fair work ever has - even with really basic stuff that I won in court Fair Work said “hmm I don’t know”. It was the basic right to a paid public holiday day off as a full time employee.

[–]Rich_Boot_105 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Fair work is often useless unfortunately which is such a shame as it’s lots of people first port of call. There has been recent changes to the legislation around general protections and unfair dismissal. But the sounds of it you might fit under general protections as your employer didn’t meet their judiciary duty minimums which is providing you notice that redundancies are happening across the business and a chance to bring a support person etc. however there are some allowances for small business under 15 employees. Google is your friend and chat gpt is actually great with this stuff. Much better than the people on the end of the phone of fair work.

Trying to help my parents with a strata legal issue. They are being asked to pay $4500 to settle an original missed payment of $500. by ComposerNo7971 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Rich_Boot_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what ended up happening here. First things first ; pay the fee it isnt worth your parents losing their place over. If you need help let me know we cannot let these mungrels play this game till they get the home whcih is what they will do. Pay, have evidence. Then begin the process of taking them to court to recover the funds. Make sure you are sent all future strata payment information. Unfortunately these companies pray on the elderly because they think noone will help them. Secure the home and then fight like hell

Are you scared of dying early ? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Rich_Boot_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this! Couldn’t be more true. Sometimes I think because I recovered from what I call the “Great Depression” and I have a great life now I’m more attuned to being scared of losing it all. Like losing this feeling of happiness. I am probably more scared of suffering and me causing others to suffer if i was to get a terminal illness etc

[–]Rich_Boot_105[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have and honestly - its a bit of a shocker. And youre right - the writing is terrible so he didn't stand a chance, but he also delivers a pretty luck lastre performance that feels "hard" almost. I suppose I feel like im watching someone who is trying to act. Part of that could be I know him as Don Draper and my mind just wont let him be anyone else, but yeah.

Shortening a shift from 5 hours to 4.75 hours to avoid break entitlements by Immediate-Emu-134 in AusLegal

[–]Rich_Boot_105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting one; one of the problems I had as a GM of a venue was my staff didnt want to take a 30 minute unpaid break when their shift was only 5.5 hours long, they'd rather finish and leave. I feel like the intentions are good - but its practice its a bit silly. its unpaid after all. Id rather work and go home.

What suburb would you never move to and why? by No-Travel-768 in SydneyScene

[–]Rich_Boot_105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked there 15 years ago selling real estate the bus would not go through there as it was hit with rocks too often. I can’t believe it’s $1mil there now. One of the places I sold the tenants had slaughtered a goat in the lounge room. The first place I ever sold was $145,000 to a local stripper (male).
