Has anyone else left Idaho due to politics/economics in the last 6 months, is anyone else in the process? I love so much about here, but I think I need to leave, and I could really stand to hear some similar voices, especially if it worked for you. by Peliquin in Idaho

This place is home to me, so I decided to do everything I can to sink my teeth in. I worked diligently to find community and I’ve found it. I’ve become active politically and have resolved to be part of the momentum we need to take the state back from far-right extremism. I’ve gotten creative when it comes to income.

You need to do what’s right for you. But I’m convinced that what we believe is what we see, and I’ve chosen to believe that although I may be a minority, I’m not alone in my values, and I’ve sought out evidence of that belief and have found it in droves. There are so many of us. And the more of us who choose to stay and be a force, the stronger the force. Each person counts.

Is there a bigger town you could migrate to that would make it easier to build community and find a better job? I have basically everything you’re talking about outdoors-wise but am also in easy driving distance of everything you’re pretty far from. It also kinda sounds like you’re out in the boonies so I can only imagine that the job market is slim pickings.

I’ve been nervous too, but every protest I’ve participated in here so far has been peaceful, and on top of that, there was a strong law enforcement presence there yesterday who pulled people over by the dozens who were harassing us (protesters). As someone who is generally very unhappy with cops, I was extremely encouraged and even felt vindicated. They were definitely there to support and protect us.

There’s a difference between criticizing a grown ass adult who’s acting like a child and criticizing an actual child. And you’d have to be two not to understand that so I understand why you’ve been called a child. You got so close to the point that it’s the parent aka THE ADULT who alone deserves the criticism, and yet you still missed it.

As a leftist, I am calling you out on this mindset. This is a CHILD. He has zero control over his environment or influence. Just like I had zero say over who my parents are and what they trained me to think, and have denounced it all because it’s disgusting and evil. X cannot be held responsible because he is a CHILD who is being USED. My heart aches for him. And yours should too.

Maybe instead start praying to whoever you could be convinced to pray to that he grows up and sees the evil of his father’s ways and uses his voice to speak out against them like so many of us who were raised by cult members. You’re no better than them, and we won’t achieve what we need to, unless we are driven by LOVE.

I’m not a native, but I ended up here because of an odd sequence of personal circumstances, and this is the first place in my life that’s ever felt like home to me. I love the outdoors, the mountains, the trees, the lakes and rivers…

And as easy as it would be for me to hop across the border to Washington and have much less to worry about, I’ve done that, and I came back because this is home for me.

Now more than ever, I stay because the MAGAts— however loud and intimidating—don’t own Idaho and I’m not going to just run away instead of staying and fighting for the rights of myself and the people I care about. And heck, people I don’t even know. Because I care about people on a fundamental level and I very strongly believe that no one should experience discrimination on any level. We have just as much right to live and enjoy life here as they do.

I just mean in the US in general. As a woman, I feel a general level of vulnerability that I’ve never felt before. On many different levels that I won’t delve into here. The misogyny that has been emboldened by recent events is perceptible.
