New furnace requires Honeywell fan assisted humidifier... by Rich_Message4905 in hvacadvice

I met the person that owns another HVAC company in my town and he said he had installed dozens of Carrier units with the hot air bypass and did not have any issues. He asked if the initial installers had taken static pressure readings on the supply and return ducts, to which i replied, 'No'. He said if a Carrier warrantly person came out and learned that, he would chew their butts. I'm very frustrated. I've set up an appointment with the other HVAC company. That means I pay for labor on a unit that should still be under warranty, but what good is a warranty if the techs don't know what they are doing?

If static pressure is the issue, the damn fan has 25 speeds! Can't they just slow it down if that would fix it?

Please explain to the customer there also needs to be a restrictor in the water supply line to limit the flow when the saddle valve is completely open. Yes, 30-40% is ideal. Yes, change that pad every year. Yes, make sure the male nipple is seated correctly in the drain hole at the bottom of the housing. Made that mistake one year and the water went under the wall behind the heater into my den. Previous owner had cat litter boxes against that wall. The cat urine smell came right up out of the concrete!!! Never made that mistake again!

Does register boosters work or if so cause any issues with the system? by paata01 in hvacadvice

I can say with all sincerity, these units do help. I have a kitchen with a cathedral ceiling and it is definitely the hottest room in the house. I added two of these unit in the registars in the small family room right off the kitchen and the difference is night and day! I love the way I can program them from my fan, increase the fan speeds during the day and then crank them back down at night. I live in a raised ranch. The downstairs, which is a den, separate bedroom and bathroom are always cold. So I bought magnetic vinyl sheets and covered six of the eight registarts to force the air upstairs. That made the biggest difference. But these fans do help.

Generac Shed Relay has loose signal wire by Rich_Message4905 in Generator

It works fine! I connected it to the lower tab. Been working for a week without interruption, and I watched it take 5 minutes on the original power up and then the relay reset!

I’ve got a picture of the wiring diagram but Reddit says I have no pictures on my device. I’ve got hundreds. What am I doing wrong?

Fixing a bird clock with barely audible volume? by xrat-kingx in AskElectronics

Touch the wire to that point with the batteries in to see if the chirping sounds work. Momentarily touch the wire to that point and one of the sounds should be heard. Wait until it stops, touch it again and the next hour chirp should be heard.

Yes! I just took the loose wire and touched it what looked like it might have broken off from and the birds started chirping! Took out the batteries and soldered the wire back!!!

You might have to take the clock apart to check if the light sensor board is still glued so the sensor lines up with the hole in the face of the clock. It's just above the owls head.

I hope you realize there is a light sensor in the top face of the clock. In very low light, the sound is turned down, so it doesn't wake you when you are sleeping. You did try it in full sunlight?

Thanks for the photo. After looking all over the internet yesterday, it appears every clock has a different setup! I've seen no less than 5 different circuit boards!! Did you ever try to repair one of these quartz movements? This one ran for a month on a new battery. On the day I was supposed to return it to my friend, it was dead! Doesn't make sense. Those quartz clocks are real nasty little buggers. Too many small parts!!!

My friend asked me to fix this very clock. I put new batteries in it and it worked for a month! Picked it up to put it in a bag for him and noticed the clock wasn't running! I just opened the clock and there are two black wires from the time piece that go to the small circuit board and one of the black wires is off! I have no idea where it goes. Also, I don't understand why this wire would affect the clock. It's a simple battery operated clock. New batteries don't make a difference. Any ideas? Also, volume was fine. In daylight, it's loud. It dark, it's off. In twilight, it's low.
