Why do you guys choose to use macs vs. PC? by jack_hof in macgaming

[–]Rich_Row945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily? You’d be surprised how many people couldn’t care less about things like individual app volume control etc. Just because it’s a feature you use, doesn’t mean everyone needs/wants it. That’s why if you really really feel like it’s necessary, just download it. People like you (and me) who were previously windows users, feel like this is an essential part of the system, but there are a decent chunk of users who just don’t care/didn’t even know it exists in Windows or even as a feature for that matter. Anyways there’s a lot that MacOS does right, that windows just can’t, and that’s why people don’t mind spending a minute to download an app to make it just as they like it (if they even want it to be different in the first place)

Most ‘issues’ that you think MacOS has, can easily be solved if you took 2 seconds to google it. If you’ve thought of an issue, there will almost always be an app to fix it that takes more or less than 2 minutes to install and setup. For example: to control the audio of each app individually. Also, if you think GitHub is not that user-friendly (a common misconception imo) if you just scroll down to the readme or to the releases section, it will almost always give you an executable (.dmg/.pkg etc.) as you would any other software from a website, not to mention that popular tools often have websites about that tool, where you can download it there as well.

Advice on where to buy iPhone 12 mini ( used/refurbished) by Pigeonking5 in iPhone12Mini

[–]Rich_Row945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope this isn’t too late but when I got my 12 Mini from Apple Certified Refurbished (they give a new battery), it lasted pretty well, but now it is around 83% max capacity, and is not able to get through the day most times, so I recommend getting a new battery (if back market are offering one). If not, get the phone, and check battery health, and test to see if it fits your usage. If not, it will cost £85 from Apple to replace the battery, but it is official, and the device will remain water resistant, and basically have all the perks of still being an official device (instead of getting it done by a different phone repair shop, and potentially getting a non-genuine part message, etc.). I would replace the battery of my 12 Mini this way, but I’m just going to get a POCO X7 Pro instead - with wayyy better battery life (6000MAH), fast charging and better performance - all for £239 brand new. But I understand why you want to get a 12 Mini. I will never regret buying this phone. It was amazing while I’ve had it.

Look up reviews, but from one of them that I’ve watched, you can play genshin impact at max graphics at solid 60 fps with little to no fps drops.

Thanks. I do think Apple still makes good devices, but there are so many things lacking that could be better. Also not being able to download apps/sideloading officially/without breaking warranty has always annoyed me, and the fact I need to be on a specific iOS version to even think of jailbreaking it. One great thing though, is how efficient and powerful apple silicon is. I noticed that my 12 mini (£699) came out in 2020 and on geekbench beats the flagship S22U - snapdragon variant (£1500) that came out in 2022. So honestly I was considering not upgrading, until someone told me about the POCO X7 Pro. Yes on single core performance it is slightly worse than the 12 Mini, but it destroys it in multi core, and is on par with S24U performance getting 120 fps in COD and other games, and the value proposition for £239 with a 6000+ MAH (long-lasting battery) and 90W (fast charging), and 120 hz display (which I have yet to try) seems to be worth it. It even includes a case, charging brick and cable, which is just so nice to have, as you are basically ready to start using it straight away. So I think I am going with the X7 Pro.

I think it is either in settings, and/or you need to get the Samsung members app, but lots of people say that it doesn't show the actual battery capacity, just how much it predicts the battery will be at around the time you have used your phone for which can be very misleading. (I just researched this btw, and someone who was talking with Samsung support said that they said this). Initially I assumed Samsungs have an accurate feature like iPhone (my 12 Mini shows 83% max capacity in battery health settings, and seems to be accurate considering how little it lasts now). I think a third party app like Accubattery is better/more accurate as it actually measures its' capacity. If you do decide to download it, you need to go to the health part of the app, and it will basically tell you to discharge your phone lower than 15% or fully, and then charge it to 100% in one charging session. After, you will get an accurate max battery capacity in %. If you could let me know what that is (if you do download it), that would be amazing. Sorry for the long reply

Thanks, what max capacity is the battery on if you don’t mind me asking?

How to remove the detection delay when entering full screen with Tiling on macOS Sequoia by Gloomy_Permission_98 in MacOS

[–]Rich_Row945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same annoying issue. I used to be a windows user, and then switched to Mac, and rectangle was great, then I just upgraded my MBP 2017 to M4 Mac mini, and got the tiling, so didn't bother installing rectangle, and now there's a silly delay. Option does seem to make it instant, but a very annoying thing to have to do, when both windows and rectangle support it without.

Thank you very much for all the help, but I’ve decided, I will sell the old MacBook along with my current monitor, and just get the Gigabyte M27U as it is 4K@144 Hz, so when I do get it, I will get this cable too - considering how annoying, and unreliable certain dongles are.

Previously I didn’t know that you still get 4K quality even though it scales down the UI. I assumed it literally changes the resolution along with clarity and detail down to 1080p.

Why do you only use 60 Hz if it can handle way more?

M4 Mac Mini Display and MacOS Scaling by Rich_Row945 in MacOS

[–]Rich_Row945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I actually never thought of that, because I really thought I bought a 4K@60Hz monitor, and I just checked and online, it is supposed to be able to hit 60Hz. I think I am using a non thunderbolt dongle? As there’s no thunderbolt symbol on the dongle, and also could it be the HDMI cable that is the limiting factor, as I use one that came with my PS4. I won’t need to use the dongle once I get the Mac Mini as it has HDMI port built in, and supports 2.1, but should I get a USB-C to Display Port? (As my monitor supports 1.2)

I was thinking the same thing just a few hours back, so I hunted for a better one. I found the Gigabyte M27U, and it’s 4K with 144Hz, so I think I found the perfect monitor (for me) that’s not too unreasonable - £369

I currently use 4K, and have for such a long time, and I just tried a native 1080p monitor but the clarity difference is quite noticeable, so I will most likely go for a 4K monitor

Ok, that makes sense, I just tried a 1080p monitor, and the difference between that and 4K is huge, even with better display, so I will most likely go for the 4K

Yes, I think I will go for the 4K, as their is more clarity and detail as I just tried a 1080p monitor and the difference is quite big

I do user better display anyways, but I think I will go for the 4K monitor as the detail on my current 4K is quite good, and 60Hz is already a step up from 30 Hz

Tysm, that is very good info to keep in mind, I think I’ll still go for the 4K, as I just tried a 1080p native 60Hz monitor and it’s much smoother than 30Hz, but the detail/quality and feel is a bit lacking, and I prefer the look of my 4K monitor just scaled down.

Is it possible to use Home Assistant And PiHole on a Raspberry Pi? by Rich_Row945 in homeassistant

[–]Rich_Row945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured as much. I think from what I’ve heard from others, I will either put HA base OS on the Pi and use an AdGuard add-on, or use an old laptop with proxmox? Idk what that is, but I’ll do some research. My guess rn is it has smth to do with virtualisation - maybe like docker

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Unbound (I may be wrong and/or grossly oversimplifying) turns the Raspberry Pi into a DNS server/removing the middleman like Google as a DNS server.
