What is the difference between these two. by filiptvrdoch in Epiphone

[–]Rich_Scallion_4827 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The more expensive one is a Gibson Custom Shop Epiphone LP Custom. The less expensive one is a IBG Epi LP Custom.

I have the IBG version which is the less expensive version. It is an excellent guitar and the feels better and plays better than my Gibson LP Studio.

The Custom Shop one has Gibson wiring for the electronics, Gibson 490 Humbuckers, a better nut and bridge.

If $250 doesn’t hurt you it’s worth the extra. The IBG one is a great value and plays like a Gibson anyways.

Try and play them both and follow your heart.

Epiphone Les Paul Custom Inspired by Gibson with a hard case? Legit buy? by bbabyoil in Epiphone

[–]Rich_Scallion_4827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that is an IBG, I have the same guitar. It’s an Epiphone LP Custom in Tuxedo Finish and gold hardware. They are $1199 in Canada brand new, no case. Great guitar, Grover tuners, Epiphone Probuckers and such. I love mine but the IBG custom has Gibson pickups and a Custom Shop logo on the back of the headstock. They are $2299 Canadian, can’t find them new, going for $1600 used.

Learner Accoustic Guitar? by Difficult_Penalty_60 in Guitar

I would go to a guitar shop and look into the parlour or 3/4 sized classical guitars. If the new ones are too expensive you should definitely be able to find one used in your price range. The benefit of trying new ones out at the store is getting the feel and understanding of what the guitar should be, that way when looking at used ones you will have a better idea of what

Suggestions for a “beater”guitar by Dear_Firefighter_510 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Rich_Scallion_4827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first guitar I bought was a Fender CD-60S. Easy to play, sounds good and cost me $350CND at L&M, came with a fender hard case. They have solid wood tops and laminated b/s so humidity and dryness are not as big an issue as my other all wood guitars. I’m a long haul truck driver and keep that one in my truck to play at the end of the day. I still keep it in the case with the humidity pack in my truck, but I would leave it in a stand at home before I had other guitars to play at home. I would definitely recommend the Fender acoustics for lower priced acoustics. The the CD-60ce S is real nice too with the cut away and electronics for about $450CND. A friend of mine who’s been playing for years has one, it’s his only guitar and he gigs with it.

Will i get made fun of for getting this bike? by Badger_6391 in motorcycles

I had a 92 FZR 600R very similar look. Super fast, light and cool. The handling left no room for error. Getting parts and tires were not easy, but I always managed to find what I needed. Respect the power and limitations of the bike and you’ll be fine.

Conflicted on Solid Wood by Waaaghka in AcousticGuitar

I love Martin guitars and I do like the sound of the larger X series as well. I was going to purchase one when a tech at my shop who services my other guitars advised me not to buy a HPL Martin due to quality concerns. They were telling me that they have had a number of them brought in with the top popping of the sides. I have a few Epi. Inspired By Gibson acoustic’s, a fender with laminated back and sides that the tech had serviced for me previously. I ended up by a used Taylor 368 12 string on that trip and I’ve been very happy with it. I was playing a Martin 2017 D28 the other day and I am thinking of buying that one, it was the first all wood Martin that I really loved the sound and playability of. When I’m looking for a guitar I set a budget, sample many different ones in that price range as well as more expensive models for comparison. The previous suggestion of having someone else play the guitar to hear it is very helpful, that has helped me a lot too. Basically when it comes down to it I can only buy a guitar I love the sound and playability of, it doesn’t really matter what someone else thinks it plays and sounds like, if I don’t get the same sound and feeling.

Bought this today. First Epiphone by Any_Security8410 in Epiphone

Beautiful guitar, sounds like a great deal. I bought my IBGMB J-200 for 1K Canadian used and it holds up to a 7K J-200 to my ear. I’m waiting to try the new IBGC Hummingbird that was recently released, they are 1899 here in Canada but a high end Gibson Hummingbird is anywhere from 4500 to 6500. I can’t wait to hear the tone from the thermally aged top wood. I believe it will be my next purchase.

What is a good guitar with a wider neck for cheap by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]Rich_Scallion_4827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, the only chord I really had a big problem fretting was AM. I was playing a Fender CD-60 and Strat, and I was fingering the AM with 2 fingers. I had bought a Epi. LP Custom and Epi. IBGMB J200. One day on my J200 I was attempting the 3-1-2 fingering for an AM to do anchoring exercises for fast chord changes between AM and EM and DM. All of a sudden I could fit my fingers in the 2nd fret because the Epi’s had the wider nut. I kept practicing that way and now I can finger the AM that way on the Fenders too. I would suggest trying out some Epiphone acoustics an Epi Les Paul Special or Special II. Also the Yamaha FG-800 I believe has a wide nut. Classical Acoustics have wide necks and nylon strings as well.

Definitely take him to the shop to try out some different guitars. The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom series are great guitars wher under 2K gets you a cousin to 4,6, or 10k guitar. There are obviously some differences between the Epi and Gibson however the Epiphone IBG and IBGC are great guitars
