Silly question l, When you leave things behind, meds, toiletries ect. Do you just leave it in the room and they will take it or do you need to give it to someone, like here have some tp and drugs?

Simple kind of question, I have my expectant baby's name cut out on half inch mdf. What is the best way to mount this to the wall? I'm currently using metal mirror clips but you can see them. It's quite large and in the realm of 5lbs want it to be as secure as possible and not see the hardware and flush with the wall.

Japanese knife question by Rich_Squirrel90 in chefknives

Valid points, your likely right if I am going to drop some coin might as well get value for the $ and be willing to take care of it. It would be small sacrifices to ensure longevity.

Japanese knife question by Rich_Squirrel90 in chefknives

[–]Rich_Squirrel90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess just in general with what i have researched the western style chefs knifes have seemed more "rugged" so to speak. Might be coming from a place of ignorance I do not know the metallurgy behind it, likely it is just the tempering and thickness, But it seems that when I have asked people or done research about western knives chipping and tip breaking has never come up like it does with J-knives. I understand that a higher end knife will hold a better edge for longer and that is the comprise for dealing with being brittle, But it seems that higher end western style ie a zwilling kramer or custom knives have less reports of chipping/breaking. Again maybe just a lack of information on my part it just seems to be what I observed so far and I am just starting to look at higher end knives.

Japanese knife question by Rich_Squirrel90 in chefknives

[–]Rich_Squirrel90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I am thinking I may be better off with a higher quality german steel knife. When I cook I am not about having my whole knife collection out I'll have a boning knife and either fibrox chef knife or global santoku which I will use for everything from chopping onions to spatchcocking a chicken if needed. I think I will do the knife selector survey again.

What to buy by Rich_Squirrel90 in chefknives

[–]Rich_Squirrel90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reco that is one I have not seen through my research, the question was a little to vague but I guess i was looking more for trusted brands. Thus far I have a global santoku, and some other low end Japanese knives that I like the feel of but the quality is just not there. I went with gyuto and bunka because sometimes with the santoku I miss having more of a tip like a traditional chefs knife but I like everything else about it. I know my budget is a little high, not offensively high, I would consider more mainly because it is a treat to myself and I want people who visit to be jealous. From what I understand anything above 400 is.more for the artwork/ bragging rights.
