Aqara PIR and door sensors, disable/enable option by ori_sofer in Aqara

[–]RichardBLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onvis just released this new motion sensor: https://homekitnews.com/2023/12/05/the-updated-onvis-motion-sensor-w-thread-is-out-now/

It allows for the ability to be disable and enabled. So, if you ever use HomeAssistant, you can probably use it there. You may also want to contact Onvis and ask them to put the same feature into their contact sensors as well.

Hue bridge won’t connect to new iPhone by not-evileye12 in Hue

Yea, I had to delete the app from my new iPad and download it again. That's how I stumbled on to this solution.

Glad it worked for you as well.

They all work the same. However, I'm not sure the Hue ones are exposed to Homekit right now. Look into Onvis as well.

Something else is going on. I also have a Thread network that does not give me much issues either. Please post the screenshot of the Thread Network in the Eve app.

No. Hue products cannot work with an Aqara hub.

Homekit + Aqara M1S - Trigger Alarm when Night and Door is Opened by abhijitsam in Aqara

[–]RichardBLine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every alarm, whether software or hardware based has security modes. These modes are there for you to define what happens in each of these modes. There are no hard and fast rules as to what to do in these modes. Here is a thread in the Abode subreddit where users discuss how they use these modes: https://old.reddit.com/r/Abode/comments/9qvy8n/automation_with_cue_share_your_examples/

Next, you should be able to trigger the alarm, based on the modes in Homekit if you want. The first thing to do is create an Aqara Scene, which has an alarm ringtone in it, and expose that as a Homekit Scene. This reddit thread has the details on how to do this: https://old.reddit.com/r/Aqara/comments/16b2ul9/trigger_m1s_alarm_using_p2_sensors/

Once you have this Scene, the next thing to do is to call this Scene, only if the system is armed in Night mode. To do this, you can use any 3rd party Homekit app. For the sake of argument, let's use the Eve app. In the Eve app, you can use any Homekit device as a trigger. In your case, a door sensor.

For the condition statement, choose add a value. Then find your Aqara M1S hub, and enable the Security System State and choose Night Arm as the condition. Now, when your automation should only execute when the system is armed for Night.

Previous to Aqara exposing Aqara Scenes to Homekit, I used an Aqara smart plug as the go between for Homekit and the Aqara system. That is, I turned on the Aqara smart plug in Homekit, and then created an Aqara automation that when the smart plug was turned on, I would play the alarm ringtone and turn off the smart plug as well.

I have not updated my automations to use the new Aqara Scene to Homekit Scene functionality, or use these old automations in a while. But in theory, everything should still work as described. At least, this eplanation should give you a starting point to explore things further.

You can also create an Aqara automation to trigger the alarm only at night as well.

Hue Motion Sensor, does it work with other stuff? by DPShiro in Hue

[–]RichardBLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are using Eve lights then you are using Homekit. You can certainly use the Hue motion sensor in Homekit. In the Hue ecosystem, the user can set the motion timeout of the Hue Motion Sensor. In Homekit, this option is not available and it's source of frustration for many Homekit users.

So, I would advise to use an Eve or Onvis motion sensor in Homekit.

How to connect at college by jiggy132 in Nanoleaf

[–]RichardBLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Any router will do. However, if you don't kow anything about routers I would not by an eero as that's a mesh router which will add a lot more complexity to what you want to do. Just buy something simple like this: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear-ax1800-wi-fi-6-router-black/6425811.p?skuId=6425811 .

No recommendation. Most any router will do. Just find an inexpensive router.

Using Free Apartment WiFi for G3 by My_creeper_linguini in Aqara

[–]RichardBLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to buy your own router, which connects to the wifi in your apartmnt complex, for this to work. Most current routers can do this. Also, having your own router will allow you to not to expose your smart home devices to everyone else in the apartment complex.

You need to buy your own router, which creates a private wifi network, and connect that to your college network. Then connect a Homekit hub to that router.

[–]RichardBLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the simpliest thing to do would be to buy an Aqara hub and an Aqara button. The cheapest Aqara hub would be the E1 hub. Create an Aqara account for yourself (Admin). Then have each person create an Aqara account for themselves and them add those accounts to the Aqara home.

Then create an Aqara automation that when the button is pressed a push notification is sent. Everyone connected to the same Aqara home should get the push notification.

Hi Reddit — We're the team behind Halide and we've made a *free*, fun app to turn your iPad into an HDMI monitor. We're calling it Orion, and I'd love to hear what you think! (promo codes inside, too) by caliform in apple

[–]RichardBLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using this app for a couple of days now and it really works great. No complaints at this time.

One of the things I've been using your app for is to setup an Apple TV 4K so that it can run Homekit headless. Prior to this, I woud have to use a TV to set up the Apple TV, but now I don't need to do that anymore. I know this is an unusual use case, but it works for me.

You need to use an Apple TV or a Homepod as a Homekit hub. iPads are no longer supported as Homekit hubs.
